So this week as posted above sees a lot of potentially close games in the NRL
and I'm not confident on betting on them, instead I'm going with two seemingly
mismatches:

Wests Tigers v North Queensland Cowboys - MLvNorth Queensland Cowboys @1.31 - Taken Amount $2 - Potential Win $2.62

Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks v Canberra Raiders - ML Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks @1.24 - Taken Amount $2 - Potential Win $2.42

going with Leinster to win at home against Toulouse

Leinster v Stade Toulousain - ML Leinster @ 1.23 - Taken amount 0.1mBTC - Potential Payout 0.12mBTC

The other Semi is very close odds Racing 92 @1.78 v Stade Rochelais @1.98

This coming weekend is Round 10 of the NRL. Nearly all the draws are between evenly
placed teams or teams in similar ladder positions which makes it very difficult to bet on.

Bulldogs15 v Knights16
Sea Eagles7 v Broncos8
Warriors10 v Rabbitohs9
Titans14 v Dragons11
Storm1 v Panthers2
Sharks4 v Raiders12
Roosters6 v Eels5
Wests Tigers13 v Cowboys3

Its clear that the easiest ones to lick are the Sharks and the Cowboys.

Semi-Final weekend coming up in the European Champions Cup this weekend.
One Irish and 3 French sides battle it out for a spot in the Final on the 28th of this month.

Leinster have a home draw in their semi to visiting Toulouse. Leinster clear favourites
should win that.

The second draw is harder to pick a winner, Racing92 v La Rochelle. Racing92 are slights favourites
1.78 v 1.98.

Amazing game between Munster and Toulouse yesterday. It was a pretty much full house
at The Aviva in Dublin. I had Munster the underdogs to win but at full time it was level 24-24,
which is not a very common result a draw.

The resulting extra time didnt seperate the teams then it went to "penalty shootout"
which is unbelievably rare. Toulouse won after Munster kicked 3 wides.

Here is the shootout courtesy of BT Sport on Twitter>

Leinster won away to Leicester yesterday 14-23. I did say in this post from last week
that Leinster are in with a real chance to win both competitions

Yeh, I know the feeling - I'm one from three this round and the last round was four from eight.  (at least that parlay makes up for these losses) - I've found six from eight I break even.

Today the Sea Eagles and Tigers faceoff (with the latter hoping to claw their way up the list of the #NRLbottomSIX) - the Roosters should pluck the Titans and then the Cowboys should annihilate the Knights.

OMG what a win, an absolute trouncing by the Broncos. I'm glad I didnt bet, I was thinking
as probably everyone else was that the Rabbitohs were going to win.

I've heard people were getting five to one an hour before kick-off in favour of the Broncos (and putting hefty wagers on them to win too)

5 to 1 aint bad, I'm not sure that would have influenced me to bet on the Broncos though.

Big win by the Eels today against the form team the Panthers, I dont get it though,
the Eels are beaten by teams they themselves should be beating and then they go and
beat the top team and as visitors, anyway not a great start to R9

I have to re-consider the betting strategy, I cant afford to lose any wagers really given
the odds and the amounts wagered.

I think the Broncos have been holding back this season as evidenced by their emphatic win over the Rabbitohs who just kept fumbling the ball.

Rugby in the Olympics its about time, they already have the 7's game. I couldn't find
anything on Dr.Google about it.

I only heard a snippet of the news article - I'll have a look in the local media sites.

The Broncos are going to be down a couple of players and like last week they will be playing at Lang Park here in Brisbane, so they might just pull a rabbit out of their collective asses.

I briefly heard PNG who are in the Qld Cup are considering bidding to be the 18th team in the National NRL.  If I can find an article online I'll post a link here.

In other news, Rugby will be played in Brisbane when we host the Olympics in 2032.  Details are almost nonexistant, however they should be good games with teams we here in Australia are unfamiliar with.

Thats a tough ask then for the Broncos if they are down some players, how good
are the replacements?

Ok so here are my picks for Round 9 of the NRL, I dont know whether to bet on
the opening game:

Rabbitohs v Broncos - both teams have been unpredictible in opposite ways,
both are on 4 from 8 4 wins & 4 losses. For the Rabbitohs thats poor,
for the Broncos its not bad so early in the season IMO.

Cell C Sharks v Connacht - ML Cell C Sharks @1.22 - Amount Taken: $1.50 - Potential Payout: $1.83

My two small bets on the United Rugby Championship came in Green which is
nice to balance all the losses in the NRL.

There is one round remaining in the URC before the Quarter Finals and  there
is currently 3 Irish teams, 3 South African and 2 Scottish teams making up the top
8 which probably wont change after R18.

I'll also make my bets for the final round later.

Some of the lower ladder teams managed to pull the proverbial rabbit out of the hat over the week-end, however, as we saw with the 50 - 2 annihilation of the Knights by the Storm (with something like thirty points piled on in the last twenty minutes) there is still a compelling argument to seriously consider #NRLrelegation of the #NRLbottomSIX in any given year.

Five of the bottom six after eight rounds have won just two games a piece, so it's hard to say one or another are worse or better than any other of that five.  The Newcastle Knights have now slumped into sixteenth place a are vieing for the #NRLWoodenSpoon and #NRLrelegation

My round nine pics for the NRL 2022 season are as follows:

South Sydney Rabbitohs - Brisbane Broncos   Money Line   South Sydney Rabbitohs @ 1.29   Taken Amount: 0.10 mBTC   Possible Payout: 0.129 mBTC
Canberra Raiders - Canterbury Bulldogs   Money Line   Canberra Raiders @ 1.66   Taken Amount: 0.10 mBTC   Possible Payout: 0.166 mBTC

Cronulla Sharks - New Zealand Warriors   Money Line   Cronulla Sharks @ 1.19   Taken Amount: 0.10 mBTC   Possible Payout: 0.119 mBTC

I took a pounding in round eight with some surprising wins (overall four from eight bets won)

Brisbane Broncos - Cronulla Sharks      Money Line   Cronulla Sharks @ 1.25   Taken Amount: 0.10 mBTC   Possible Payout: 0.125 mBTC

  • #NRLtopSIX - Panthers, Storm, Cowboys, Sharks, Eels, Rabbitohs
  • #NRLmidFOUR - Roosters, Sea Eagles, Broncos, Dragons
  • #NRLbottomSIX - Auckland Warriors, GC Titans, Wests Tigers, Raiders, Bulldogs, Knights,

This in a way is good for the competition, there are two rock solid so far teams, Panthers

some unexpected wins by the Wests Tigers for example.

I think I will be reducing the amount of games I will be betting on the next round.

Are there many other people who would be thinking along the same lines as this in terms of introducing relegation?

To be honest, I have no idea, but I'm pushing it on Twitter and will see over the next few weeks/months what sort of interest it gets.  Something needs to be done about the one sided game play.

IN a little under five hours the Auckland Warriors will take on the Canberra Raiders - the Auckland team will *probably* win, but after their sixty point loss to Melbourne I'm beginning to lean back the other way and think Canberra might be in with a chance even though both teams are in the #NRLbottomSIX .

It turned out to be a very close game and as we have seen a few times so far in the
early stages of this season a field goad seperates the winner from the looser on 82"

That was a very nail bighting finish and could well have gone either way.  Fortunately, my money was on the Warriors, but it shows the two teams are about even and their positions in the #NRLbottomSIX confirms that.

Another very strange scoreline from todays match between the Eels and the Cowboys,
The cowboys gave the home side a right thumping, I just find that scoreline hard to
comprehend, The Eels just scored once....

The Cowboys were 15 - 04 with about fifteen minutes left to play then poured on twenty unanswered points.  The Eels just gave up.

This week, there were noises made to move the NRL grand final to venues other than in Sydney where it has been since the New South Wales NRL became the National competition.

Overnight, the New South Wales State based teams were instantly promoted to become "national" teams and a consortium banded together to parachute first the Broncos, Storm Titans and Cowboys and Warriors into the National competition.  None of these team existed before they made their way into the competition.

When the National NRL was formed, the Queensland Cup became something of an overnight irrelevance where it was once a major social event in Queensland's calender.

With #NRLrelegation, lacklusture teams would have one eye on being dumped from the highest game back to the various State Cups.

To my way of thinking, being in the bottom six would be almost guaranteed relegation with the wooden spooners a guaranteed dumping.  The winner of the State Cup would then be promoted to the National competition.

Of the bottom six, I would relegate the wooden spooners as well as one state team which would mean (as the ladder stands at the moment) the Bulldogs and Raiders would be dumped and two NSW Cup teams would be promoted to take their place.

Auckland would go home (and probably dissolve given it was a manufactured team).

Likewise the Titans would probably fold and like the Auckland side, their players would then want to be parachuted into the National teams - which would mean there would have to be a provision preventing players who have been relegated from then moving sideways into other teams.  Relegation means the team AND it's players are relegated for twelve months.  Ironically, the Dolphins (an actual state based team) are waiting in the wings and could replace the dumped Titans.

The Bulldogs would return to playing in New South Wales (as would Canberra I would imagine being an island in a sea of blue).

Were relegation to occur, you couldn't have an identical named team playing at state and national levels otherwise you then have the headache of do the dumped national players get absorbed into the state based team?  Do the state based players then get dumped through no fault of their own?

If you look at the history of the South Sydney Rabbitohs https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/South_Sydney_Rabbitohs They had a forty-three year gap between Premiership wins from 1971 and 2014 - how many years would they have been relegated I wonder?  And would Russell Crow have funded seeding the team with star players that enabled them to win in 2014 had they been relegated I wonder?

I havent seen that tournament listed.

10 years is quite a long time to try and develop the professional game, why are players
still amateur? is there not enough finance in the game?

The most famous Argentinian player in my country is Felipe Contepomi who played #10
for Leinster and scored 1225 points over 6 years. He is still currently with Leinster as a coach.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Felipe_Contepomi

Sorry for replying so late.

Look what happens is that here the sport that monopolizes everything at a popular level is soccer as it is public knowledge.
The rest of the sports are played a lot but as secondary sports.
In the case of rugby, here in Argentina only middle or upper class people play it.

This leads to few people watching or following it in such a way that it is profitable on television (although the main tournament is broadcast by ESPN) and sponsors certain big brands.

Yes obviously I know him, if I remember correctly he is the top scorer of the team (national team) or now they passed him and this second I don't remember well.

In these years the emigration of many young players to Europe for wages is even greater. Even those who are bad travel on their own, for example, to a country that is starting to want to get into the world of rugby like Spain and play there for money.

No problem @darxiaomi

In Ireland where I am from Gaelic Games monopolises the sport scene, Soccer is
second followed very closely by Rugby Union. Gaelic Games has such a dominance
that we could partake more competitively in other disciplines but we dont.

All of our talented soccer players end up in the U.K. Support for U.K soccer teams
massively outweigh support for the national club soccer teams.

We really punch above our weight in terms of Rugby Union. It used to be seen here
as an upper middle class sport but that has changed over the last  20 or so years
since the game turned professional, its a slow process but more and more "average"
people are getting behind the sport. Hopefully it will happen for Argentinian Rugby
too.

Newcastle Knights - Melbourne Storm   Money Line   Melbourne Storm @ 1.07   Taken Amount: 0.10 mBTC   Possible Payout: 0.107 mBTC

At half time, the Titans led 4 - 0 against the Panthers (during half time the price of the Panther's blew up but I wasn't able to get online quick enough when the prices flipped 10+ for the Panthers and 1.09 for the Titans.  By the 70th minute, the price had returned to favour the Panthers (should have put more on the game Wink ) - In the end I'm happy to pick up the small win.

Next week I've locked in the Rabbitohs to win over the Broncos.  The game should be on par with tonight's block buster Rabbitohs Vs Sea Eagles game.  The Sea Eagles lost a player in the ninth minute for a dangerous tackle/throw and had some good playing over the 80 minutes.  The first half really seemed to last a long time, but that was how exciting the game plays were, not a lack of play if that makes sense?  In the end on Full time, the Rabbitohs scored (but didn't convert) to win 40 -22 .
