I don't blame them. Why not? Because they are warm enough in summer to feel how nice a warm land is. But they are so cold in winter that they wish it would all go away. So, why not conquer warm lands so that they have someplace warm to go to in winter, while maintaining their family heritage for summer?

Ok, if we follow your logic that military bases abroad = occupation, it means that Russia occupied Belarus, Tajikistan, Kazakhstan, Armenia, Moldova, Kyrgyztan and Syria, because they have their military bases here. And we shouldn't forget about annexed part of Georgia and Ukraine.
