Cryptonote uses a different curve, different libraries, and a whole different underlying core.
We used ring signatures to spend Shadow, which is created by sending SDC as an anonymous output.
Our scheme is quite a bit different, in that we borrow concepts from zerocoin, with the minting and spending, and use ring signatures to make the inputs untraceable from the outputs.. We're also using PoS instead of PoW.
Its a completely unique scheme and implementation Smiley

Great job guys.  Looking forward to community discussion on this.

Not to mention, Shadow's anonymity is much more lightweight and flexible than XMR / cryptonote solutions.  And SDC is not restricted to any type of signatures... SDC can swap it out with any better zero knowledge systems should they ever come along, and SDC will always be able to improve on it.

Why there is no reference to Cryptonote on whitepaper?
Zero Knowledge + ring signatures is nothing more than Cryptonote.
Shadowcash is just cloning Monero without giving its credits and lying that is creating something new and revolutionary.
And everyone here know it.

From cryptonote white paper:

https://cryptonote.org/whitepaper.pdf

You can't read the reference at the end of the WP ?

The spend code mentioned in the quote you used is what we are worried about

The spend code has been on github for over two hours for the eagle eyed!

Thank you for this! I will go look now

Nice, it looks like shadowsend v2 (zk) is open source now.  Great work dev team!

Such big news deserves a new article, which can be found here.

Will try to do a more in-depth analysis later this week, assuming I can make sense of the technical stuff that's way above my pay grade... Smiley

Great article once again jdebunt!

What makes you think someone asking for the spend code to be open sourced means they want to buy cheap SDC?

Maybe some people just want to know there are no potential vulnerabilities in the code. The SDC dev team seems to be very competent. However smart people can make mistakes.

Look at what happened at blockchain.info this week despite all their coders, good intentions and VC money. Asking for code should not be viewed as FUD or a personal attack.

I understand that SDC may not want others to copy their coin (like others copied their stealth address code) but the 1st will always be the leader. Copycats cannot be prevented. Many have copied BTC and BTC remains the leader. Many have copied the cryptonote code and XMR (first fair launch) and BCN are FAR ahead of all later copycats.

SDC will remain the leader for this version of ZK tech once it is proves, even when/if others copy it.  Without going open source, there are huge risks to all SDC holders which some are not willing to accept. This is an important moment for the future direction of SDC

I agree with this, the code should be open source for peer review. It is critical for trust, especially when dealing with systems that protect anonymity.

Every coin at this point stands on the shoulders of giants, they all utilize open source code written by programmers who came before them. For the forward progress of cryptocurrency as a public good to continue it must remain open source.

Please, look at these simple words:

I am confused.  Is the present ShadowCash release opensource, or not?

We've committed the verification code for exchanges: https://github.com/SDCDev/shadowcoin/tree/anon
Its enough to build the daemon, and it will be able to accept and verify anonymous transcations.

We've left the spend code out for now, as we wan't to give investors a chance to have something unique.

Most of the checks and validations are done in main.cpp (https://github.com/SDCDev/shadowcoin/blob/anon/src/main.cpp) and ringsig.cpp (https://github.com/SDCDev/shadowcoin/blob/anon/src/ringsig.cpp)

We committed the verification code, so that people can go through it Smiley

Are you under the impression I didn't read his posts? I read them and the source code he released. I was explicitly requested access to it. But releasing the code after it is done is different from community open source development. Everyone appreciates being able to see the parts of the source code released but undeniably more can be done to be more open and transparent about development. What I would like to see is more emphasis was put on advancing technology instead of catering to investors demands, since they are typically more short sighted.
