I refuse to believe that its the end for all people who hold on to altcoins for long term, i know its profitable to buy bitcoin for short term because of its quick recovery but altcoin time will return no matter how worsen things way be

If you have sold your weak coins then it is good for you but I hope those did not include the top ones. Any investment other than bitcoin, ethereum, litecoin, BNB and few others do not give any benefit. Moreover, choosing the weak coins is a big mistake. You should go for the potential assets. If you will take smart decisions, then you wont have to sell out your coins ever again. Just be clever.

Except you can't know which are weak and which are top. BNB didn't even exist a couple of years ago and it's tied to a success of one exchange, which can change in a moment. Remember Mt Gox, Cryptsy? Even Poloniex isn't doing so great. All of these use to be top exchanges at some point.

Even ETH has its problems and can flop. It's already 80% off ATH. It's not scaling well etc.

There is only one coin that's most likely to stay at the top whether the market goes up or down and that's BTC.

Actually there is always come a time when I had wished I sold some of my altcoins to BTC, seriously when I held and the project turns out bad. Also, there is always a time I wish I didn't sell some of my altcoins such as ETH. From this two experiences I see it as this, the best is always BTC and even if altcoins are to be held then should be the likes of ETH. Most of the upcoming projects nowadays have nothing to offer, only few are still making waves.

This thread is what I am really looking for all this time. finally, i found the same opinion as me
i sold almost all my shitcoins months ago. i dont care wether i get big loss or not, but i just make sure i wont get bigger lose in the future
there is no hope for altcoins in this time, that's why i prefer to sell my coins to avoid big lose
what if altseason will happen soon? of course i will start buying too. at least i can get lower buying price than i sold my coins

I agree that many altcoins can be called as shitcoin and will not provide benefits if we hold them for the long term. But from so many altcoins, I think there are some altcoins that have big transactions and have good projects and in my opinion bitcoin won't continue to dominate the cryptocurrency market

The point I'm trying to make is that it's impossible to guess which altcoins are going to be the "some" that are good. And it's quite possible that none of the currently existing coins will go to the moon. There might be some new coin at some point that will repeat ETH rise for example. You simply don't know. Holding altcoin bags is like gambling. If you wouldn't go to a casino and gamble $100 at a roulette table then you shouldn't be holding $100 worth of altcoins. If you can afford to gamble $20 then maybe you can buy $20 worth of your favorite altcoin but honestly that sounds like a very boring way to gamble. I prefer a casino.

That is a good view point. I just wonder why those tokens or coins prices keep falling even with massive developments of their platform, they still find it impossible to come back to even half of their ICO prices let alone of surpassing it.

It's already late. Many altcoins are now at the bottom and sell them does not make sense. We should have sold earlier. Now they are unlikely to bring any benefit.

If you have already filled your cryptocurrency portfolio with altcoins then you do not need to sell them in a panic We are waiting for a lot of changes ahead and most likely these changes will affect the price of many altcoins very well. Ethereum marked the update date of Istanbul on December 4, 2019. Since most tokens use the ERC-20 wallet, it is likely that this will affect many investors. So don't panic we'll be fine. And in addition, Tassat has received approval from the CFTC with cryptocurrencies for institutional investors.

I like the idea of this topic. I have long known that there is only one real cryptocurrency - it's Bitcoin! Investing with long-term benefits is better only in bitcoin. Thousands of new altcoins have tricked their investors.

Although crypto market is Bitcoin dominant but growth of  altcoins cannot be denied. There is no surety that Bitcoin will keep on rising and all altcoins will be dumped, its baseless to say that sell all your altcoins to buy BTC. Today crypto market is not doing good but tmm it may grow like lat 2017 who knows. I am still holding my altcoins with the hope that they will grow, if they do not grow it will not worsen by current situation I will remain like this as I am not earning anything out of my portfolio and if they grow I will definitely have some good amount of money. I do not see it logical to sell my altcoins today.

You know how this is going to end. You might be trying to lie to yourself, you might be secretly hoping that some token in your "portfolio" that you have 10 million of is going to moon to $50 and make you rich, but let's be real: that is not going to happen. Even the allegedly strong altcoins like LTC or ETH or whatever is cool these days (I've been out of this game for a while) are not doing well and BTC dominance is growing. Which makes sense if you think about it. BTC can do most of what any altcoin can do and the few really useful features that BTC is missing (private transactions for example) are implemented by multiple altcoins, fragmenting their market share.

And the elephant in the room: 99% of altcoins are total garbage. They're called shitcoins for a reason.

Sell your altcoins and tokens. Take the proceeds in BTC, stick it into a cold wallet, keep some online to play around with Lightning and other things that actually matter for real-life stuff, like being able to buy something. When was the last time you were able to use for example Ethereum for something tangible, not to buy some garbage tokens or to play a game?

Do it today. Your grandkids will thank you.
i think you are right but i always keep my mind awake and optimistic. in my way, if i will invest in some coin (some project), i will search any information about that coin (project) to know thats a good coin or a bad coin. We have many ways to confirm, evaluate a project to decide whether to invest in them or not. So there is no need to be negative

Probably the worst idea to sell your cheap tokens, at first you should manage better portfolio and protect from such losses. What would you get when you sell your altcoins in 90% loss?

You would get 10% which is better than zero, isn't it?

We cannot predict the future. Maybe BTC is thriving today, but tomorrow it will fall again or tomorrow shitcoin will have a price in the sky. Investing in cryptocurrencies is always dangerous. Someone will lose, some of them will be earned. What do you think ?

Those two events (BTC thriving or falling) don't have the same probability so it's unfair to present it as some sort of equivalency. And if BTC falls then alts most likely will fall too. Stick with the leader.

It can get frustrating, yet I think I'll hold on to my ETH and wait for prices to go up while the crypto scene continues to change.

I agree with you to an extent though. Truth be told, you made good points which are totally true because it's reality. Most coins are total garbage with nothing to offer than being pumped and dumped. However in the midst of these, there are still altcoins which are worth holding just like BTC; the only thing is we have to be careful of them. My favourite altcoin has always being ETH and XLM and I don't see it changing anytime soon.

for me this is not the right time to sell altcoin now, but if you buy cheap coins then the price multiplies from the beginning of your capital so sell immediately because it is your right. I have a top coin and I buy it when the price is cheap, even the percentage of profit that I get may be 3x the initial capital but I prefer to hold it until the market really improves.

No matter how you put it out, we can't just focus on bitcoins, they are called altcoins for a reason. alternative coins not to replace bitcoin entirely but to solve the little problems that bitcoins can't serve. we all know that currently, the price bitcoin is on the high side and not everyone can afford to get one. altcoins are there to support and serve same purpose. they are not going away at anytime but many will be replaced with new ones.

I am terrible at Fantasy Football!!!
What would you get when you sell your altcoins in 90% loss?
10% of your money that you will not get otherwise? Holding your coins is by far the most common strategy in the forum and the market in general but what many seem to miss is that you cannot hold all coins and expect good results, good coins to hold are bitcoin, ethereum or litecoin but if you want to hold a coin that is outside the top 100 then you will suffer losses close to 80% or 90% and while at that point the decision to sell will be a hard one it is the best you can take.
