Honestly, now Ripple, which is ranked third for capitalization, looks good in comparing to Ethereum, which is ranked second. The XRP graph is more smoothy. Its price doesn't fall too low during the global market dumps, and its price is pumped higher when the crypto exchange markets are green. I think that Ripple has a potential, in spite of its major disadvantages which are the centralization and a huge pre-mine.
In any case, currently I advice to invest in Bitcoin expecting the probable approving ETF by the SEC this September.

all the decisions are yours, if you consider that the ripple coin is a scam and not good then there is no need to invest in ripple, but if you consider that the coin ripple is good then you can invest in ripple coins ...
It is good to invest in other currency to make sure your investments will surely not gonna lose and I think it is good to invest in Ethereum kinda popular one to make more secure for you. And to prevent from losing if your not really sure about the currency that you are aiming to invest with your money and just put some read and research to currency you like to invest.
Ripple is termed to be the centralized asset, and the same has made people fear about investing into ripple. It is all about the profit expectancy that decides whether an investment over ripple is required or not. Even other digital currencies will be manipulative, but being centralized will make people fear about ripple investment.

Much more interesting project for now I guess is Stellar. It looks very strong on the falling market, unlike other altcoins. And I never trust in Ripple.

My advice to not invest in Ripple. I have invested in last six months 2 to 3 times on different market trend, but always at loss, centralized one, not of use for long-term in cryptocurrency investment.
