Got my Onda D8P to post.  Not sure if I needed to connect all the Sata and Molex connectors for my quick smoke test, but decided to do it anyway.  I ran a dedicated Perif/Sata cable to each plug, using up all 6 plugs on my EVGA 1200 P2. Smiley

And I was greeted with a blast from the past good olde AMI BIOS:

I looked through the BIOS settings and I'm not sure what, if anything, needs tweaking before throwing some GPU's on this thing.

I'm running a G3930 CPU and a DDR4 SODIMM.  It it will take DDR3 as well, that's great as I can probably pull some from one of my older laptops.

Next up will be booting from a SSD with nvOC installed and throw a 1050Ti on it to see if it will mine at the default BIOS settings.

The slots that are near the edge of the board, are those pcie slots ?  As in could you drop some risers there and run more cards ?

I hooked up my board with a kaby lake i7 7700 and ddr 4 8gb,  the board powers up and cpu fan spins but no post screen, connected gpu fans do not spin either, everthung else is hooked up like in the above pic

is this board not compatible with kaby lake proccesors? eveb my older boards work with these they are all 1151 chips
looks  like one of the boards was a lemon it wont post tried a diffeent psu , proccessor etc no dice

other one seems to be working fine , firmware on these are strange though windows installs with a grey screen instead of the normal blue and eveb after that windows is black an white?

@phill Ill need to return the bad board, you should let your supplier know on the next order we will need a replacement

Hey everyone... just wanted to get some thoughts about Vega 56. It seems they are drying up very quickly now and I've snapped up a few but wanted to get some people's thoughts about a few theories I have.

This seems like a somewhat similar situation to what happened with the 4xx series GPUs eariler this year... mining demand is outpacing supply at the moment so many places are out of stock and those who do have them are starting to charge 25-50% over retail for them.  Granted, it;s not exactly the same since 4xx's were being EOL'd, hence no more new ones entering the supply chain. But, could AMD really have under-called the demand for this by this much?

By contrast, there are plenty of Vega 64's on the market.

I'm seeing shortages on the 64 as well, and BOTH are getting some price gouging.

I suspect the production bottleneck in HBM2 is still around as the probable reason.

My group has started the Vega farm project and GA-56s are in shortage even this side of the world.
My distributor is however compensating me with a Sapphire 64s with a tiny discount.
smOS has not supported Vegas yet -- so this farm will be entirely Windoze - anyone has done the Vega Win primer yet?

Meanwhile, the B250 Colorful board is offline without that darn custom CPU (male-male) 4-pin cable.
Also, this Zotac 1070ti Minis are as fat as the 1070s, and too close for comfort.
I may have to revert to D1800s since they have a little bit more clearance in between the PCI slots.

Awesome It would be great if you could test that board with 8 Nvidia cards and then with 8 AMD cards and let us know, im still waiting on my sample Smiley

I'm going to try to transfer these 8 1070 GPUs from this rig to the Onda:

However, I'm not sure if that 1st gen EVGA 1070 SC is going to clear the 24V power connector.  Should be a good test otherwise as that particular rig has quite a mix of 1070's.  (3x 1st gen EVGA 1070 SC, 1x 2nd gen 1070 SC, 1x 1070 SC2, 1x 1070 FTW, 1x Zotac 1070 AMP!, and a nvidia FE)

That said, it's Friday and I just cracked open a fresh handle of Svedka.  Cheesy

And, my main project this weekend is getting these 48 280W additional solar panels installed!

arent ddr3 sodimms 240 pins vs ddr4 260 pins?

I'm running one of these: (it was on sale for $69 at the time)

https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820232147

It seems happy with it:

Here are some shots of the default graphics settings:

i wonder what voltages those 4 pin molex and sata connectors need? I can get 12v/5v via sidehacks adapter but i cant get 3.3v for the sata. if it needs the 3.3v too a server based build is out, i would have to go with an atx psu. i would rather go server psu.

Good question.  I know the sata connector standard does include 3.3V but very few drives actually use it.  I too would much prefer just feeding everything with a server PSU and a PICO, but it doesn't look like that is going to be possible.

No, blower style Vega56.

all the same hight correct?
Yup. All Sapphire RX Vega 56.

Fan on top of those cards isn't going to help much unless it's blowing air down at the "blower fan" intake for the cards - in which case it might help some.

nope  if fan is in front near video ports  it pulls a lot of air up and out..all back plates feel hot

and you pull it up and out  so the back plate tosses much less hot air at the  blower fan it is close to

Put the fan right over the blower intakes - blow cool air into them (and the air pushes the heat from the backplate away from the blower intake).

If the fan is placed near the back of the cards by the brackets, it would make sense to have it pulling air out, but I believe it would be less efficient at keeping cool air going into the cards - and it shortens fan life since the fan it having to deal with hotter air.

Also, I have near 100% uptime every since using SRR system - worth every penny that system - sleeping well again.

@ Citronick

Posted a question on the SRR thread but no reply, maybe you can tell/advise me?

I'm in the process of moving all my rigs to SMOS, received a SRRv2 (not plugged in/tried it yet) which will do 8 rigs, but I have 11 rigs on SMOS at the moment. The expansion board will obviously add 32 rigs when it's available.

If I bought another SRRv2 to cater for rigs 9 to 11, will it work OK, or will they clash with each other and not work?

I see you need to enter the serial number of SRR when setting up the system, so I'm 'assuming' if I was running two SRRs with different serials, all would be OK?

Yes it should work fine but expansion board will be cheaper if available

But, could AMD really have under-called the demand for this by this much?

By contrast, there are plenty of Vega 64's on the market. I'm assuming this is because the 56 is a much better mining card?  Is it true that 56's can essentially be flashed to effectively be a 64 speed wise, but consume a lot let power than a 64?  If this is true, then it makes sense why the 56's are becoming scarce. Although it's true that they really only dramatically outperform Nvidia on 1 algo, but that apparently is enough for a lot of people.

Normally, you would think that there would be a soft cap on prices for 56's since there are still plenty of 64's available for around $600.  But who knows... if the Hash/$ is quite a bit better with a modded 56, I wonder how much people would be willing to pay for them... maybe even more than a 64?

And, I guess the other potential factor here is when will the fan-based versions of these start to come out. Anyone know how long it usually takes for this to happen?  I don't want to go crazy trying to get the current blower-based 56s if the fan-based versions are likely on the near horizon.

Flashing a 56 to a 64 is really easy and you get pretty much the same performance as a 64.  I'm not sure exactly how much less watts if any the flashed 56 has as most people that report don't have any real at the wall proof.  As for AIB cards with better cooling options, they will start to make an appearance at the end of this month supposedly.  I would expect a premium price on these when they come out though.  One last thing to keep in mind is Vega cards aren't very user friendly for mining.  You'll have to babysit them a lot at the start until you get things dialed in.  If I could do it all over again I would probably just buy some 10XX Ti's as they are hassle free.

Volta supercomputer is over 50% more efficient than pascal. There's enough time for cards we buy now to pay off 60-90% of its cost before volta release (assuming late march). After new year I think I will halt expansion till volta releases.

My electrician found a decent warehouse with 500A 3 phrase 415V power. Flying back to malaysia to check it out in a month.

I have a number of brand new and unopened Biostar TB250 BTC + risers I am selling cheap. Anyone interested pm me.

Wow.... 500A facility is hard to come by - hope you close that sweet deal ... if you have spare racks, I can help you populate it  Grin

Yeah, got quite lucky. You don't want to host with me haha, there's no one at my farm for months and I always have a card or two not detected  Tongue

LOL - all you need is a good remote access system, CCTV, environment monitoring, smOS, nvOC, a few W10s for dev and test, and you are set to go.

I ordered one today guys - will report back once I receive it

Did you use paypal or some type of protection for  the purchase?

Great price if it works out.

My order for 10 more boards has given me tracking  maybe monday or tuesday. they will show up.

AliPay is overprotecting buyers. Seller doesn't receive the money until buyer confirms receiving and satisfaction with the product.

Yup... even a negative review will demote the seller in the preferred & trusted shop ranking.

ebay should learn abit from Jack Mah.
