mobo is here, arrived perfect. you did a great job packing it.

now just gotta collect the odds and ends it needs. cpu, sodimm, some more adapters (6 pin pcie to molex/sata, already have a pico psu and 6 pin splitters). gonna run it off a sidehack 1200 HP server psu/breakout board.

and damn that thing is big Smiley

yeah  did I use the large flat rate game box with you?

I did most of the shipping with that box.

i think so, its the biggest flat rate box i have seen.

FYI: GPU0 - 1080 TI, GPU1 - 1070 Mini, GPU2 - 1080 TI  (GPU0 & GPU2 are the exact same 1080 TI make/model)

 You appear to have one of your 1080ti set for a MUCH lower TDP level than the other one.


Hey QuintLeo, thanks for the response.  I added a few more pics for you (or anyone) to take a look at.  I believe I have power settings set correctly... but as you can see in the Nvidia Powermizer pics, the one card is clocking significantly less.  

Also, I added a picture of the GPU stats in the terminal.  I notice 2 discrepancies from the bad 1080ti (GPU0), and the good 1080ti (GPU2).  Both the memory usage and gpu-util are higher than the others.  Does this mean something?

I used to lay a 10 inch fan on  hd 7970's  back in 2012


right on top of them  with the fan pointed upwards

of course  this meant no rigs above it  but it works.

That case would be nice to have but holy crap I can build frames and buy shelving for far less and management is easier.

I'm getting the parts delivered for my Onda D1800 6x Vega56 build. Still missing a few.
I'll probably build a wooden frame for it all next week.

What would you guys say about the best way to vent these things? The GPUs will be pretty close... Will I fare better with leaving the rig "open-air" with a 12'' fan blowing at them from the back or should I enclose the rig and make a funnel (fans in the back to let cool air in, and let the GPUs exhaust at the front)?

they are quieter.  they hash better then air cooled.

I will get the messy one to look better.

I did try a custom 2 card block, but  lots of o-rings and my 60 year old double cataract eyes were barely up to the task. it does work

damn.. water cooled GPUs are messy..

centralized radiator is the way to go, when NVIDIA releases volta you don't need to hesitate getting the reference cooler, just prepare the water blocks, pump and radiator. you will be up and running full speed without waiting for third party coolers made by zotac, asus, etc.

I'm planning to build one, the hard part is getting the right customized radiator, the right pump, fittings, sizes etc..

multiplying x8 of that small radiator is a start to have an idea about the size of the radiator, but we can dissipate more heat from the GPUs if we make the radiator bigger.

I do have a crazy idea for the 2018 though - to standardize each rig 12 GPU at at time....

I've done 4U builds so I understand the controlled case design/fan direction to redirect heat, but this case is "open" and would seem to prevent that.  I don't see a top or a bottom cover, so hot air is going to be going everywhere.  Am I missing something or not understanding the design?  I would be interested otherwise, but I want a closed design more like a 4U case.

back to my Avalon 741 problems.

I am using two power supplies which i had purchased from ParallelMiner.  Both show 12.4 on the break out board.  I have 3 cords from each break out board going into the Avalon 741.  So one side of the avalon has 3 of the power plugs plugged into power supply1.  The other side of the avalon has 3 plugs into power supply 2.  Should this be setup differently?

I have the raspberrypi usb mini cord plugged into a powerstrip.
The lights on my AUC3 converter are green.
The lights on the back of the Avalon 741 are green.



Any help is apprecaited.  I can check in avalon thread next if this all checks out...


Edit: both power supplies are plugged into an old power strip. Do you think it's not getting enough power because it's going through a crappy power strip. ?

Phil did you test this board with 8 GPU's yet? Did you try with both AMD and Nvidia?

I don't understand that case design.  Why are the GPUs shown mounted upside down?

FWIW, I'm also working on a frame and a case for the Onda B250 board.


Some thoughts  my knock-off colorful boards smells burnt.  I dropped watts and smell left.  That case of 12 is too closed and if you had 2 stacks of them good luck trouble shooting it.

The odna board seems better. 

 yeah the short first card sucks.

no smells of melting like I have by the knockoff
