Social media made people more unsocial. People like to keep in contact with many virtual individuals but most of them are not very active in real-life social programs. Social media is not free, we actually paid them with the knowledge of ourselves which they sell or use for marketing.

We are living in a time when data is the biggest asset. All these social media sell their user data for money and those data have also been collected for marketing purposes.
Correct, before the advent of social media people still socialized, the difference was that the number of people you could reach was more limited but you could still exchange your ideas and hobbies with others and have a great time while doing so.

Social media allows you to reach a bigger audience but since the majority does not really know the majority of their social media “friends” this is creating an environment in which people are losing their social skills, as now it is not rare to go to a restaurant or another place where people gather and see a family in which every single member is just staring at their phones without interacting with each other.

All the social media was used for the business and economic development. It also improve the concept of socialisation. Many new youngsters had gained good knowledge from the social media. They get to know, how to react in the society for certain things. The TikTok is used for the promotion of verbal things and verbal ideologies among the young people.
Anything could really be used whether messaging apps or even videos or most likely on social media and just been said that since this had the most traffic then it would really be just right
or sensible for you to be doing such action because you do know that marketing out your business or products on such places would really be giving the good odds on getting positive outcome
considering about the traffic then  you could really say that it would be worth it.Yes, it is made for socialization but it could really act on the same time on using for it to business.
Its a personal choice since not all do make out business but there are some who do just surf out because of different interest or the other way around.

In the eyes of the government, when social media is not registered with the monitoring agency, it will be very vulnerable to being discredited and even blocked. As happened where I live, now Reddit, Steam, Paypal, Github, etc., which are the livelihoods for young people, have now stopped due to crazy government policies. The reasons are about privacy but I prefer to call it a no-flow of money they can control and can't be an organized business.

I think you shouldn't speak generally about social media and make a strong divide between business and socializing. To me, there are Messenger apps which are largely for socializing. Then there's LinkedIn which is obviously business-oriented. Twitter is for politics and business rather than socializing, and Facebook can be very different based on your own bubble and on your country (in mine, it's mainly thoughts regarding main political events and as a community of people from my field). Then there's TikTok which is sort of for socializing, but largely not by verbal means. So it's all diverse, and so are effects of social media: there are big negative effects, but some positive and neutral ones as well.

Most people have been able to provide their basic needs by engaging in business activities on social media.
Um, I'd like to challenge that statement by asking for some proof--most of the people I know in the real world don't get their basic needs met by using social media.  And by what means are you talking about, anyway?  Spamming?  Making "content"?  If you know a lot of folks who make their money that way, they're slaves to the giant social media companies and I don't find that to be any better than working a 9-5 job.

And of course social media has gotten overrun by corporations.  Even if something great and decentralized comes along for anything you can think of, the big media corporations (or government) will co-opt it and corrupt it.  Take a look at proof-of-stake coins and the ones that have DAOs, community funds, and so forth.  They basically end up being the personal piggy bank of the major owners of the coin or the devs, whoever can get their hands on the money first.  It's human nature, unfortunately.

Excel is fun
This is actually true. A huge percentage of this world is using social media to promote their businesses rather than socializing. I find it odd that people find it hard to socialize on social media sites but doesn't find it hard to promote what they're selling or offering. I guess this is the age of e-Commerce and consumerism. People use what available online tools they have to promote what they sell in a fast and more efficient manner.

This activity also opened a new niche for freelancers: social media marketing. They are in-demand and are actually paid a good amount in exchange of creating advertisements in social media that results into sold products. Lots of opportunities to be had online after attending trainings and getting certifications for people that are seeking to make money online.

Hello Leo! You can still win.
Social media is driven by a zeal, by an urge and a desire. A desire to connect with one another within and outside your locality. The desire you reconnect with your course mates and former colleagues. The desire to understand how another person is faring and living his life.

The desire to connect to people, the desire to connect business to business and connect people to business. In which ever way people are connecting, it is the purpose of social media and there's no altered goal.

This is where we need to be easy to adapt and blend in in an environment where digitalization has become a common habit. Whether it's in transactions, business and matters related to finance are now leading to the digital era. When we can't adapt to these developments, we inevitably fall behind. You have been following technological developments in business but that does not mean you are controlled by it. But on the contrary where the control of everything is in the hand.

The next 10 to 20 years will all be more into the robotic era. Jobs will shift and we are in control of it all.

Everyone is scrambling for clout and credibility. Trying to increase their follower count and marketability. All of the clickbait angles and begging for retweets, likes and followers seems to have devalued and cheapened some of the relationship between content creators and their followings.

And after decades of being bombarded by commercials and advertisements. A high percentage of people appear to have stopped blindly believing everything they see on a screen. And on some level, began to think more for themselves, independently.

Having lots of views and follower interaction translates directly to more money from ads. And so yes it does seem that profiteering motives and business is a leading motive behind much of it.

The term socializing to me now means - an online activity that aims to attract and increase followers, creating engagements, impressions and ultimately make money from them through sales and ads. I hate the fact that most things on social media are more about this. And that is how it is going to be. Right now it is not just the gen z's and millennials that are chasing the most clout online even the gen x and baby boomers have caught the fever.

The image above is a typical example of what the Op means.

Everything goes online. I do agree with your statement since this time everything is based on online. The fact that if people's life can't far from their gadget. Anywhere as long as people have hardware and they will be very active in accessing the network to do social media or something else. Those business was coming caused by they were seeing this as an opportunity to make them all used the product that based on the online.
People are very active in accessing the social media. this proves that if the business must have adapted with the situation that happened with the world.

Some companies dprogress in business by selling scarces commodities to limited number of individuals while others get there profit in numbers. I remember a brand of milk in my locality once, they sold tin and refill of it which were in large quantities. As a result the poor could not buy and where cut off. This paved way for a suitable competition where another company came up and carried the masses along by producing in bits that were affordable. The later had to emulate them to fit off with the competition.

What am trying to explain is, the profit that could be found in numbers and that is what social media, the networking community have provided for us. Now, we've got everything trying to accord itself a mainstream so, the distance as a barrier would be eliminated and they could meet a larger audience. Social media becomes the market!

It's always been a business, it was never about bring the world closer together. Before the age of social media, there wasn't really a digital platform that would have participants voluntarily hand over information about themselves, their families, and their personal lives for the sake of permanently storage in a searchable database. Setting aside the ignorance of people sacrificing their privacy over the sake of digital connectivity, the companies themselves for years have been selling this data to advertisers. They have no liability either -- just send the end user 20 pages worth of terms of service materials that no one bothers reading, and that waives them of any responsibility.

but today, it is indeed like an open marketplace. just look at fb, they have their own marketplace and people are really using this feature extensively. as a buyer, you should be very careful also as some of these sellers are scammers. but this kind of platform is very useful to many these days. they can easily discard things via selling their things over social media channel. i guess, we are already in this digital age where a lot of things are happening over the net.

The emergence of social networks has allowed people to increase their circle of communication and business. Previously, a person would have managed with his circle of acquaintances and spent money to advertise his product; today, all of this is much cheaper, and in some cases completely free.
It saddens me that the intrusive ads that users are offered to view are so strong that many have to give up social networking altogether.
Initially, the idea of creating such networks had good prerequisites, but today it has turned into chaos, where it is very difficult to guess whether you are communicating with a normal person or a scammer who is sitting on the other side.
Well, as social media has been abruptly abused by all kinds of people, then it’s not surprising anymore if you are doing business with a scammer disguised to be a Good Samaritan. However, i’m not saying that majority you do business online with are scammers, but it’s certain that it’s getting harder for us to determine if we are dealing with fake people or not. As social media continue to be popular, the chaos has also become inevitable, which leads to crimes if you are not being wary on doing business with other people.

Do you think social media is now becoming more a place for business than socializing, Could it be as a result of digitalization and things moving online or more people now starting business online because of need to somehow generate income or another source of income for self to survive the economic situations which is becoming tougher?
I agree with you, i remember some few years back when I first signed up on Facebook, Facebook was more of a place to socialize with one another, but today, things have changed, it has become a place to advertise different types of businesses and services, same goes for Instagram, Twitter, whatsapp etc.
Reason for this I think is because everything including businesses are becoming digitized, few years back, no one was interested in buying stuffs online or knew how to, but today, all that have changed due to the internet connecting the world together as one, people can buy stuffs even outside their country and have it shipped to them, businesses becoming more digitized, I believe is the major reason why social medias have turned into business hubs instead of a place to socialize.

They aren't only fully focused on business, but are also very ambitious on mass control and world supremacy. They don't want to offer a simple service to take fun and accessibility to users in the way it worked on the early days with Messenger, Orkut and so on... Rather, they want to determine what people can say, think and consume, while showing no respect for users' privacy.

Mark Zuckerberg from Facebook is the perfect personification of that.

Oh, the 2000's decade was so good for the internet in general... I don't know if people were just more innocent or if those megalomaniac simply didn't have influence yet.

I don’t see it wrong if social media nowadays is already an avenue of business. It’s where the people are, so it’s also an advantage if you rather make business with them as part of socialization. Creating business online most particularly in this new normal has already become a norm, and has been a huge success as lots of stories have proven that there is more money in social media rather than just being traditional.

Do you think social media is now becoming more a place for business than socializing,

Becoming? Nope, it was there 5 years ago. And not only FB, all of the major platforms have transfered into more of hub for small ventures and big brand advertising, so it's more or less everyone trying to sell you something all of the time.
