CAF must improve; host nations cannot host tournaments during the Hamattan season on such poor fields.

This is what I wanted to ask next - the pitches look horrible. Didn't know about Hamattan, just googled a bit and yeah - makes no sense at all.
Then again - AFCON is always in Jan-Feb - which would mean that you can never host it in West African countries? Doesn't seem fair as well.

To be honest, just a few West African countries have a decent stadium and are unfit to host continental tournaments, but at the end of the day, it all comes down to who pays the biggest money. The North and South African countries have the best stadiums in Africa.

Second, not all parts of West Africa are hot during Hamattan. In Nigeria, for example, only the northern parts experience hot Hamattan because they are closer to the Sahara desert, whereas the rest of the country experiences low Hamattan, and those areas are where our standard stadiums are located; they are not built in the north because the environment is inadequate for football activities. Ivory Coast should have transferred the majority of its activity to the low Hamattan zone. Imo.

Nobody speaking about Salah's injury? How bad is it? Looked like hamstring, if so - he's out of the tournament.

I watched parts of Ivory Coast - Nigeria game today and it was hands down the worst football I watched in a long long time. So many poor passes, bad touches...and these are supposed to be two good teams.

Maybe I just watched wrong parts of if the match but this was several levels lower than Croatian national league which is bad.

Really hope next one I try will be better oterwise I don't think I will give AFCON another chance. Maybe I am just salty since I had both to score in it  Grin

Lol. Two reputed African superpowers performing like Wednesday night football teams: Ivory Coast was awful at defending, and Nigeria was dreadful at finishing. The prizes we offer to goal scorers are killing our teamwork because everyone wants to score and take home the prizes. CAF must improve; host nations cannot host tournaments during the Hamattan season on such poor fields.

The second half was not wholly horrible, but it was not worth the hype since the country's level had dropped so dramatically. The Ivorians are one of our main rivals, and we all remember how things used to be. Drogba and Mikel days.

This cup as always in very hard to predict the outcomes of the amtches, the good thing in one hand is we are the 80% of the pool in the same prediction line, so not change so much and prevent until now to see one guy making a huge gap between us.

About the games as i said before i dont see any of them so i cant talk about it.

In the overall i feel like african football is not growing up this last 20 years, is like all the weak teams raise his level (wich is really good) but the usual contenders or powerfull historical teams like Cameroon Nigeria etc cant develop one level higher, and this its not only here in african cup is also when they clash against european or Conmebol teams.

Yes i know what are you thinking about....... Morocco, yes they reached semifinals and was a milestone but they have luck on their side in some amtches and also they are not the super historical team of africa for me.

This competition is one of those that is proving difficult to predict and honestly, I didn't see Ghana leading twice in one game after Egypt equalized and at this point I don't think they will throw this lead now... unbelievable comeback from Ghana!!

With this result, could this be one of those games that sends Egypt packing as a loss puts one team at an advantage and Ghana is close to getting their Golden ticket to go past the group stage

Edit:

Egypt just equalized, this is a crazy game...some real drama unfolding here  Grin

Ghana took the lead, not watching so as not to jinx Salah but it seems Egypt doesn't need the help of my bad juju. Snyone watching? Far from over, of course, so might be tempted to tune into second half.

Salah is faking injury as usual - some random stats marchants compared him to Prime Hazard because he scores so many goals. Those who truly watch the game know the truth.

I didn't expect Ghana to win after their poor performance in the first game, but they're making some deadly attacking runs and deserve to win this one.

If you're felling down just remember that Kudus was offered to Man united for €35m but they turned t down and bought Antony for €100m

Betting on the Super Eagles of Nigeria at the moment is a very big risk if you ask me because despite the intimidating world class in the team, they've failed to play like a team who really understands themselves and that's actually the problem of the team manager Jose Peseiro.

Don't know what he did right, then? 4 lucky winners get 1.5 points for backing Nigeria, the rest of us can only be thankful no one got an exact. Getting crowded in here.

The super Eagles lack everything as it stands now in this Afcon. They are just same, old pattern of play and mentality in totality.
I placed a bet on the winning straight up, only to see them trying to equalize a lone goal.

The Portuguese manager is simply clueless of the best playing pattern that'll bring out the best from his team members and that's why I wouldn't advise anyone to actually stake his best on them.

Ok guys, GW1 is over and that means our AFCON pool is officially closed. Rewards are as follows.

We have 68 mBTC (50 mBTC sponsorship + 18 buy ins) and roughly 224$ (5 buy ins) in the pool. 23 players in total.
1. Place - 30 mBTC
2. Place - 15 mBTC
3. Place - 10 mBTC
4. Place -  8 mBTC
5. Place -  4 mBTC

Best overall yellow cap - whole $ fund, so 224$ minus any tx fees.

That comes to 67 mBTC and we have 1 mBTC for tx fees. If something is left or missing it will be added or taken from 1st place. Least impact on reward. I will pay generous tx fee for confirmation inside 5 blocks or so as always.

We will use Superbru tie breakers to settle any ties if possible. If it is all the same then prize will be shared.

For example in this first round 3 of us had exactly the same points and while we all have the same points and it seems that we are tied under all rules we actually aren't. Elche and casperBGD are sharing the first spot while I have 3rd. We all got yellow cap though. If the pool was over today we would all share yellow cap reward while I wouldn't get the share of 1st place and other 2 guys would split 30+15 equally. Not sure if it is the bug or some tie breaker I can't find when taking a quick look but we will use Superbru and abide by their decision no matter what. Probably not gonna matter when we get few more games under the belt.

late catch on a shared yellow cap, with a Congo-Zambia draw
if you didn't take a look on Kangwa goal to put Zambia on the lead, these type of goals could be seen on AFCON only

let's get going into next round, Nigeria is on the brink today, lose could mean a fast comeback home, can you win @Igebotz @Harkorede

If I were you, I wouldn't trust or have high hopes for Nigeria because I don't - just a day before our first game Sadiq Umar was deemed injured and unfit and thrown out of the camp, replaced With another striker, Sadiq Umar returned to his club and was declared fit to play, Sadiq Umar played 30mins for Real Sociedal last night. So either the Nigerian medical staff took bride and forced him out of the team or he faked an injury to pull out. There are so many questions because he was the only competent Osimhem backup after Boniface suffered a hamstring injury before the competition.

We always perform better in important matches and today could be another day.

BreakingNews: Ivory coast President declared today as public holiday to allow students attend the game against Nigeria.

You guys want to be kind to me and accept that a book would void this if he didn't even have a chance to play? Or you want to carry it forward to Algeria's next game vs Burkina Faso on Saturday?
Agreed on my side.

Superbru solved. Hate doing picks on last day, I know I'll forget tomorrow. Morocco finally get a statement win. AFCON is flowing this edition huh?

Confirming 1 mbtc each with Igebotz and Trofo against Amoura to score vs Angola. To be clear, if he doesn't score a goal (own goal doesn't count), I owe each 1 mbtc.

Guys, it turns out Amoura didn't even feature in the line up, apparently suspension from a much earlier game I wasn't even aware about until AFTER the game. It's so hard to follow team lineups haha.

You guys want to be kind to me and accept that a book would void this if he didn't even have a chance to play? Or you want to carry it forward to Algeria's next game vs Burkina Faso on Saturday?

I'm, of course, happy to honour my sidebets as it's my fault for not checking so properly.

Edit: I see Trofo's post above, which somehow I only saw when trying to post this. Voided it is! Heh heh. I'm lucky.

^^ Yeah I lost a pretty acca that was just waiting for RSA to win (4/1 odds), everything else hit easily and I had to put up with the missed penalty and actually dominant first half from the S Africans. Damned idiots. Even my draw on Superbru didn't work out.

P.S. Superbru been down for me the whole day, you guys experiencing the same? Need to enter picks for tomorrow's matches onwards.

Tac is S.A legend and that penalty kick may have changed the outcome of the game because they were the better team in the first half, had the opportunity to kill the game, and wasted it. The best thing is that Ghanaians and South Africans started trolling Nigerians on Twitter after we lost two points, and both ended up losing three.

Mohamed Amoura was suspended for yesterday's game. We missed that part of the news. Bet void, you lucky bastard. Keep your 1 mBTC.

Nigeria's problem is solely a management problem. The management never gets the right coach for the job. This present Nigerian coach is not good enough IMO. I know Nigeria has chances that should have given them the lead and they failed but with the way they play, it's obvious they lack a good coach.

Also, so far only Senegal has been convincing in the tournament. All the other big teams struggled. Tunisia and Ghana even lost. This will tell you that it's going to be a very interesting tournament, not a tournament where the favorites just trample on the lesser teams.
Let's wait and see if Morocco can announce itself well today or if Tanzania has a surprise for us.

You're too kind. But I get it, the date was close and network wasn't friendly. I'm always happy to help out in future with fronting people too, in case you stragglers don't want to overburden the Tro Wink
I know you are always ready to help and even though about switching a few to you but it would just complicate things. This way I am hoping I will be able to keep track of everything.

Preliminary rewards, could be changes since the pool is still open. Not gonna add into the OP until it is final.
We should have at least 68 mBTC (50 mBTC sponsorship + 18 buy ins) and roughly 220$ (5 buy ins) in the pool by the time Round one is over.
1. Place - 30 mBTC
2. Place - 15 mBTC
3. Place - 10 mBTC
4. Place -  8 mBTC
5. Place -  4 mBTC

Nice prizes as always thank you and SB for that.

About this cup we are having some surprises in so few games.

And trofo in flames right now, what a start for you man!. Do you have some scouts in Africa bringing fresh info to you?  Cheesy
