I think this is the pool to try a bit riskier tactic of going against the favorits.
One could change their strategy and go risky, but all it would take is one game which goes according to expectations, and almost all other players get, to make you start doubting your change in plan.
Yesterday was full of upsets, today? maybe one or two. Tough choice really.

Today we got a true AFCON feeling. Favorites dropping the points left and right. Was really proud to get correct score on Nigeria but did not see Egypt conceding 2 goals. They even needed 97th minute penalty from Salah to save a point. I think this is the pool to try a bit riskier tactic of going against the favorits.
It sacks knowing very well that this competition is almost like la Liga, too many draws to catch a winner and I said it that Egypt or Ghana might not land the maximum points and my gut feeling was right... Now Ghana is playing the last 8 mins of added time and they were below par against a determined Cape Verde....

Wait Cape Verde just scored a winner, WTF confusion in Ghanas back line ...this competition is getting difficult to predict Grin
Ghana 1-2 Cape Verde

To Be Or Not To Be
just 2-0 for the first game, when I see 1st goal in 5 min, I was pick over 3.5, but, its finshed 2-0, cote d evoir not big team

Ivory coast only lost once since 2023, perhaps they are not the best in Africa but they're one of the big teams there.
Its a group stage match also Guinea -Bissau is not that weak either, you can check their previous games.

I’m glad that they stopped on time (I chose 2-0 and getting 3 points for an exact score is always super profitable since it’s pure randomness). In general, it seems to me that teams have no motivation to overexert themselves, regardless of the difference in the class of the teams, especially at the group stage, if victory is already in their pocket. Maybe I'm wrong, but here (among the players) there are no fans who are very concerned about statistics. Plus, if we take into account the previous results in the World Cup qualifying tournament, then I would assess the likelihood of games with a total of more than 3.5 as extremely low.

True, at the group stage mostly there are only 2 or 3 goals except when the big team against a very weak team.
Nice win you have there, congrats.

Too bad no one took me on Ivory Coast, eh? Nice start for me, but most of you got it spot on too. We're such experts, aren't we?
Going against the host nation, you are such a brave heart...and at this rate sooner or later you should catch an upset as their game wasn't convincing enough from what I saw last evening..

Oh and pool results were quite surprising that so many players hit the bullseye , guys mean business here!

Today should see some serious action and possibly one of the big football nations could be upset...Ghana, Egypt maybe Roll Eyes

The most likely uposet I see is the Ghana game, both by their not very convincing performance pre tournament, including a 1-0 defeat against Comoro, and by the Cape Verde team that is proving a difficult nut to crack recently.

Maybe 0-0, but actually go for it?

Almost everyone was spot on. Getting a close call never felt this poor before cause that puts you at the bottom of the pool as it stands. At the end of today, with the number of matches available, there would be more daylight between those at the top and the rest.

A dark horse may become apparent at the end of today.

Nigeria have the quality of players required to win AFCON, but then I don't fully trust the team structure and chemistry because Nigeria are never consistent with having players that are called up being determined by tactical preference or these players form, and there is no specific national team starting xi based on the how often the guys play together during the international break. However, from the first game, I'm sure we'll know what to expect going forward, Nigeria is never a team that should be rated by their performance in a friendly match.

We're underway already and Cote d'Ivoire have had themselves a very early lead, that's leaving me optimistic about my 3-0 prediction...
Speaking of the super Eagles in this Afcon, they got a good calibre of players, but the Portuguese coach may try to play something different considering the injury in the team leaving only Osimhen as the favorite striker. Am also concerned about the midfielders, there may not be any good creative play if one lacks and that's a concern that may be capitalized on by their opponents in their first leg match.

Nigeria should get an easy win against Equatorial Guinea today, I'm quite certain, and I've backing the ~1.50 Odds ML here, the group stage should be an easy path for the Super Eagles, I have absolutely no doubt on that, my concern was about heading the deep into the competition and possibly triumphing all the way, easier said than done right ?

Frankly I wasn't thinking that the interest in AFCON would be this high. It is quite pleasing to see that there is a crowd of people who want to join nearly every pool on the forum from now on. I hope that we can reach much higher numbers in time. I hope that we can watch an AFCON with more goals this time. My favourite for the championship is Nigeria this year.
And people are still signing up, I had several more during the day so we are now well over 20.

I don't think Nigeria has what it takes to win AFCON. Their defense is simply not good enough for me. Few minutes left till it starts...

In the end we will have a couple of people paying in USDT, I don't see any other way then using that budget for one of the lower rewards. Just hope that person that lands on that position will not be a BTC maxi but if he is maybe we can find some other solution. For instance I don't care if I am getting USDT or BTC so if I end up in the money (I will not), I would gladly offer a chance to convert on the fly.

Confirming 1 mbtc each with Igebotz and Trofo against Amoura to score vs Angola. To be clear, if he doesn't score a goal (own goal doesn't count), I owe each 1 mbtc.
Yeah if he scores I send you 1mbtc if he doesn't you send it my way. A simple one.

No babysitter here ( tagging participants) you gotta enter all your round 1 answers at once. It was a fantastic game to watch.

I watched Australia - India opening game; beautiful atmosphere but I must say this - India needs to focus on cricket and baseball. They were totally awful. Lol

And yes, credit to casperBGD who knows my nasty little side habit of following Jupiler league teams. USG and others have been very good value padding for me in Europa and Conference. Power packed teams, they play like they don't care who scores, so are among the highest attacking sides in Europe (when they play vs not too good teams). Honestly I don't even know if Amoura will start but Algeria can't afford to ignore his form. And yes I follow some Dutch games, but only because where I live. It's impossible not to hear the news...

Different coach, different set of players; other African countries (Ghana, Ivory Coast, and Cameron) keep the same set of national team players, which helps in building chemistry. In Nigeria, however, the situation is different; we are just overpopulated, and the number of players spread over Africa and outside is too many to select the very best. I don't have confidence in our defenders, and our goalkeeper is too short to catch anything. I don't think we'll win this one.
The opening game was massive and entertaining.

It seems like nothing shocking, just normal safety requirements? As you know, these lasers can damage the retina of the eye even from such a distance, there are many videos on YouTube where the beam of such lasers bursts balloons lined up in a row.
I wonder if vuvuzelas will be banned? It seems that if you look at the map, Cote Divoire is located far from South Africa, but maybe these things are also popular there.

It's a good development from the AFCON committee but I'm still waiting for the CAF to take the same action against lasers in our league games.

vuvuzelas was banned after the 2010 worldcup.

Yep, I remember this, but Blatter then (if I’m not mistaken, this swindler was still in business) put it in the sense that “vuvuzelas should stay in Africa.” Therefore, I don’t remember that they were banned everywhere, but if this is already the case, then I’m glad.

Good news everybody Smiley

Should be at least 20 of this season. Already collected money from 18, 2 I am quite sure it is just a matter of hours and then I have some more stranglers from my Sportsbet chat that are interested to join.

I will still allow people to join during first GW, with the start of GW2 pool will be officially closed. Detailed rewards will be written out at that moment. It will be similar spread as in my La Liga and Serie A pools (percentage wise).

Anyway it all starts today so make your picks and good luck, not that you need it.

bloody lucky bastards every one of you

20 participants are already in the pool, super! I was sure that we would collect the required amount.

Is anyone surprised by the bookmakers' odds on BTTS? Mostly they are seriously higher than 2 - in some cases almost close to 3. If you make a money bet, then such cases always attract me.
