Unfortunately, I cannot play with you because I have not paid. I do not have a balance currently, but if I have a balance next week, can I keep up with the event?

Luckily to hear this from trofo in BSFL chat today.  This is something I should participate in. Even though I haven't played pool before,  but I guess there's a first time for everything.

~BreakingNews: lasers and smoke effects has been banned in all stadium by the AFCON committee.
It seems like nothing shocking, just normal safety requirements? As you know, these lasers can damage the retina of the eye even from such a distance, there are many videos on YouTube where the beam of such lasers bursts balloons lined up in a row.
I wonder if vuvuzelas will be banned? It seems that if you look at the map, Cote Divoire is located far from South Africa, but maybe these things are also popular there.

It's a good development from the AFCON committee but I'm still waiting for the CAF to take the same action against lasers in our league games.

vuvuzelas was banned after the 2010 worldcup.

In Africa, we have team fan clubs, who are paid and accommodated throughout the tournament, and they are the first to fill the stadium to support their team. Private sectors in Nigeria also sponsor supporters to go watch their team play.

what happened in last friendly match against Guinea, didn't expect a lose from Nigeria

It was a bad timing for all players involved - we lost Boniface to injury in that useless game. Guinea were playing with all seriousness cause they have nothing to lose and Nigeria on the other hand is one of the  favorite for the AFCON and the players were not ready to risk it.

closing in on a start tomorrow
nevertheless being first match on tournament, which is usually a lousy low-scoring boring fixture, I expect a lot of goals between Ivory Coast and Guinea Bissau

but overall, had same score for first four matches, and than changed it a bit, all matches look similar in first two days, but at least one should come with a surprising result, it is not a France/San Marino difference there, as could be foreseen by odds

Are there any teams other than the host that will have a home atmosphere in Ivory Coast? Not really familiar with politics there, will Guinea/Ghana have any advantage or not?
Good question. For example in EURO, no matter who is playing and where, we always have full stadiums. Don't know how many fans are traveeling to support theirteams in Africa, but I guess that these countries closest to Ivory Cost will get biggest support. I just hope that vuvuzelas isn't big thing there Cheesy.

Ivory-coast neighbouring countries such as Ghana, Guinea, and Burkina Faso will have a major fans edge. Nigeria is two nations distant from Ivory Coast, but we have a large Nigerian community across Africa, so there are already millions of Nigerians in Ivory Coast eager to support.

Finally paid for signup. It really hurts to pay such big transaction fees, but didn't had other choice as I'm not able to pay with other currency.
Really have no idea whatto expect from this tournament, so, going to follow insights of people who have some more knowledge about African football

Burkina Faso forms a large amount of the population in ivory coast, with other countries contributing smaller amounts like Ghana, Mali and yes, Guinea too. These are the neighboring countries, so it doesn't come as a surprise that they have a healthy population presence.

Right then, we're near the first game and we've trashed Onana and Nigeria and AFC, but is anyone up for quick sidebets?

I don't know the players well enough, but I'll offer a 1mbtc like-for-like bet on these outcomes of these group games:

  • Ivory Coast clean sheet vs Guinea Bissau
  • Amoura to score vs Angola
  • El Khannouss to have 2+ shots vs Tanzania

If anyone wants to go against them, feel free! Better than bookie odds, so I'm giving away free money haha.
Ok, I will take you for Amoura to score against Angola. So my bet is that he doesn't score. Seems like good bet even if I have no idea who Amoura is and which country he plays for. So I would appreciate if you tell me that. Angola is usually quite solid in defense and that is enough for me.

I will also go with Amoura not to score - for quick searchbar Amoura plays for Royals ( Belgium) side and he's the leading goal scorer this season. Guinea Bissau are shit I can't trust them... Quote me if you're in.

A lot of heavy favorites in the first few group games, I think we'll see a bunch of goals in this round.
Generally though - I'd bet on a low-scoring tournament again.

Ok guys, deadline for joining the pool is coming closer so here is a couple of points:
1. If you paid and sent me tx id over pm and you did not get the link to join contact me again. Had to pay for lot of people this time over various bets, deals and whatnot so lost a thread a bit
2. If you joined the pool over Email invite and did not pay yet, please do so or leave the pool. There is couple of you and I am quite sure you will be playing but confirmation would be nice. If you need more time to pay let me know and we will work something out.

Number is growing steadily. We did not reach 20 yet but I don't we are that far off. Will do a bit of recap tomorrow and post it here.

Really hope this AFCON will be much better than last one  Grin Nobody wants to watch 0:0 games.

Interesting point of view. Looking at how Casemiro in just one season (if you take the number of games) turned from the best midfielder in the world (according to Neymar and here I see no reason not to trust Neymar despite the fact that he is an asshole) into someone who is not suitable for United ( looool) i can believe this 100%. United is a merciless graveyard of talent  Grin

Lol yes remember Casemiro scored a lot of goals for United as a defender tho so he did great for points return but honestly he needed a good team around him. United is a mental problem. They act like Galacticos and make statement buys but have a lot of players who need Galactico treatment. Then they face teams who don't fear them, and they all get scared.

AFCON teams are complete opposite, everyone respect every one too much so few goals scored.

Do you expect the same low performance as in the World Cup qualifiers? The most popular score is 1-0, 0-0, 0-1? Tomorrow we need to make a forecast for the poll, and I haven’t decided how to forecast yet  Grin There are many teams of completely different levels in the groups, so I still expect better perfomanc, but in games of teams of equal strength, we should probably make the choice 0-0, not 1-1 if we assume that there will be a draw.

I have placed some bets for the first few matches. I must say it is like walking in blind with the predictions cause international matches are few and far between.

Might not get to see all the matches so most of my choices will be based on what the bookies have to say. As the tournament progresses, favorites will become clearer. Wish me luck  Grin

seems that buwaytress is following Jupiler league, as well as Dutch Ere
it is a new addition and young star from title fighting Royale Union in Belgium, and in top form for the club
not sure for Algeria dough

wouldn't go on other sidebets, seem as good choices from your side

Now you've said it all, I don't like disco tagging Andrea Onana as a bad goalkeeper, he needs good defense and Manchester never had that at the start of this season.

Manchester United and Liverpool tied for the most clean sheets this season, proving that the defence is not as bad as Onana had you assume. Stop looking at analytics and start watching the game. He's not just a poor shot stopper, but he's also prone to errors.
I am actually going with just the opposite. You need good defense to keep clean sheets but bad defense is actually perfect for GK to show his worth. It is much easier to be on goal when opponents are shooting at you every few minutes. Even if you concede few, you still make plenty of good saves and build a name for yourself. There is nothing harder for the goalkeeper than having to have to make one good save after doing nothing for 80 minutes. You screw that one up and there is no chance for redemption and you are never totally in the game.

That's exactly my point! Onana gets 10 shots on target and concedes 8. De Gea and Krul are good examples of good shot stoppers; these guys faced an average of 7-9 shots on target and produced numerous saves. Pickford is the current good shot stopper in the league, and whether his side wins or loses, he always has a better game for himself.

BreakingNews: The Gambia national team players returned to Gambia shortly after takeoff because the AC on the small plane provided to them was inadequate and nearly smothered the men onboard.

I know him to be stubborn when it gets to his international duties, but his more focused on Manchester United than Cameroon. Bottom line is, without bias, Manchester United has a good goalkeeper. He's just had a wrong start with Manchester United from the Pre-season.

Agree. I still think Onana is a good keeper. Not great overall but in his form you cannot ignore, and his performance for Cameroon is all that matters. Personally I think his discipline at WC haunts him, and that's partly why he is coming late, I hope he puts on his best tho, or risk being banished by Cameroon.
