Ok guys, the time has come to start collecting the money for the pool, I wanted to give you as much time as possible.
BTC address where I will be escrowing the funds:
1PUknW57jM21p5WnLCWqFcZw7n1QUUBK63

Buy in for the pool is 1 mBTC = 0.001 BTC or little more than 35$ at the moment, before somebody complains it is a bit high read on about great sponsorship deal we will enjoy Smiley

I am pleased to inform all of you that I have secured sponsorship deal with hands down best crypto bookie and my favorite bookie overall - Sportsbet.

1. We will get 20 mBTC (over 700$ at the moment and hopefully much more soon) to boost our pot which sounds great but goodies does not stop there

2. Every participant gets 0.5 mBTC free bet on Sportsbet. Only conditions you have to have Sportsbet account and you have to send me your Sportsbet username along with buy in transaction (want to make it as easy as possible for Steve to award them, if you are very concerned for your privacy maybe you can send your username directly to Steve but I don't see the problem of sharing username). This makes it almost like you are paying just 0.5 mBTC for a month of fun + some great prizes. Surely that is all now?

3. I will also organize weekly competitions for participants only. Rewards will be free bets at Sportsbet. I am open for competition ideas, I was thinking something like, team to score most goals, team which wins with highest margin or player who scores most goals. Details will be announced shortly before Copa starts.

I'll update the OP tomorrow when I have more time and pretty it a little but wanted to share big news with you guys immediately.

after Colombia, it is now on Argentina, and Copa America could be played in USA in the end, because of Covid situation
if true, this could bring strange results, teams will play on the fields that they do not know, probably without audience, and it will be difficult to prepare for the tournament
I think it's not easy to move tournament to other location when there is just few week left. But when we live in such crazy times, it's difficult to get surprised.
I think for teams it's not big deal if tournament will be moved to USA. And it's not likely that tournament would be held without spectators. If you watch NBA playoffs or other sports from USA, now they allow spectators and not small numbers. For example, New York Knicks allow to fill up to 75% of arena capacity if I'm not mistaken.

to expand on the article above^:

Quote
Of course, if the Copa America tournament is moved from Argentina at such short notice, and out of South America altogether, it would mean that a lot of logistical plans would have to be changed.

That would take extra time, and that could mean the tournament being pushed back a few weeks. On the face of it this makes sense.

Pushed back? c'mon now they really want to sabotage our 24-hour football marathon starting next month, don't they?  Grin

Quote
as Argentina is currently in lockdown and all soccer games have been called off.

I'm not sure about that, Copa Libertadores and Copa Sudamericana are currently underway (group stage). I had a few bets last night as River Plate, Racing Club, and Newell's Old Boys all had games...

Quote
Fans can attend games in pretty large numbers if the tournament is held in the USA, plus the Copa America Centenario was a huge success when it was held across the United States of America in the summer of 2016.

The only advantage of moving games away from South America is that there may be more fans, as i didn't see any last night. They still don't know what to do @CONMEBOL with two and a half weeks left, huh?

I'm with you ... and while I await the launch of the new season of the Premier League predictions, this is a great idea for me to pass the time!

So maybe later I will ask a few more questions that interest me.

I am going to invite the Gosu gang, just thought of that Smiley
Hmm, another gang ... I'm just wondering who's in it.
I am putting you in as participant even though I am not 100% sure you are in. "I am with you..." is not exactly hard commitment  Grin Complain if I got it wrong. Feel free to shoot any question after I start the pool officially. I will try to edit the OP in a way that is answers all the usual questions so maybe there will not be the need for further explanations Smiley

Gosu gang leader is @efialtis and I don't think they are official Bitcointalk gang yet but they should be. Check his thread and webpage. I can only recommend it, he is doing the good work there.

I am playing poker with those guys so I'll try to do some recruitment between the hands.

I am in. Just PM me when you start collecting entry fee cos I can forget to check in here. Thanks.
No problem, I will probably start collecting money 2 weeks before first match and I'll shoot the PM to all the people on participants lists who do not make a deposit in the first week or clearly state they will not be part of this pool.

Apart from that^, the Copa America predictor is now available at Superbru.
Great, I'll make our pool and start collecting money as soon as I dish out the rewards for La Liga and Serie A. Provided that we have at least 10 players, less then that and it does not really make much sense. I'll send a couple of PMs during the weekend as well.

Still waiting for confirmation from sponsor so I hope all 3 "obstacles" will be ironed out during next week.

A friendly bump! Smiley

It appears that Colombia won't be hosting any matches:

"2021 Copa America: Colombia will not co-host next month's tournament amid ongoing protests in the country"

Colombia will not co-host next month's Copa America amid ongoing protests in the country, the South American Football Confederation (CONMEBOL) has announced.

The decision was made less than a month before the opening match is due to take place as street protests were held against Colombian president Ivan Duque.

The tournament, which is set to played between June 13 and July 10, would have been the first Copa America to be hosted by two countries with Argentina the other scheduled host.

Apart from that^, the Copa America predictor is now available at Superbru.

agree, whatever pool I am in, bigdaddy is near the top, congrats
So you are saying we should not invite bigdaddy to play Smiley

would it be more interesting on Copa America without Brasil or Argentina, so that Venezuela could take their first title?

no, I am saying that he is Brasil or Argentina, and for us (we could be Peru and Chile, for example) it is a goal to try and beat Brasil or Argentina (bigdaddy) Smiley

but, yeah, it is interesting idea to play without him, will be easier to pick some reward Wink

yeah I think they exclude extra time and shoot outs from what I remember from UCL is the predictions work for 90minutes that's why you can predict a tie.

No, they do include extra time, the screenshot attached below was from a champions league match this season, they match end at 2-1 in regular time but both team later scored during the extra time. And it was settled as 3-2 in the pool.
They counted extra time and not penalties in the past, but it doesn't really matter, it will be the same for us all and it is written in the rules of the pool. I'll include that in the OP once the pool is live on Superbru.

So, bigdaddy won in '19...i swear he is either first or second in every goddamn pool, the most complex player that we've got here. 👍

this will be a short one, so everyone will have chances, few good predictions in the beginning and you are close to slam it, there is a total of 28 matches on the tournament
not sure how Superbru will distribute rounds, but I think that we do not need "best yellow cap" competition, only overall

I will be your number 9 on your list
When we get to the quarterfinals, semifinals, 3/4th place, and the final, how will the scoring work? Will the scores be graded at the end of regular time or the end of extra time? I suppose penalty shootouts are excluded?

Since it's going to be on SuperBRU, I think it's graded after extra time, just like in the UCL (Juventus vs Porto being the most recent case) and other knockout competitions, however, I don't know if penalty shootouts are included, I doubt they'll be though.

I haven't looked at schedule, but I think that games won't overlap - most Copa America games will start deep in night. Maybe only on weekends there may be some earlier games, but I think schedule is made trying not to conflict with EURO.

You are right there won't be any overlapping at all, my bad in calculating the time difference between Argentina and Europe.  Grin

Great to see many familiar faces Smiley. We have 8 players already in less than day - not bad, right?
This year because of Covid there won't be guest teams. But anyway, it was a bit strange to see Japan or Qatar playing in Copa America.

You can count me in! I might need to secure another monitor or tv, i think we will have matches from Euro overlapping with the some of early Copa America matches, 24 hours of football for about a month. Bring it!  Grin

but the gambling board had a big boost in number of users and predicition pool participants in the last couple of years so hopefully we'll get more than 10+ players 👍
I am expecting about the same as for Serie A and La Liga, maybe we get to 15 players. If we get to 20 I'll be really surprised. If somebody likes to join and buy in is too steep for you, let me know and maybe I'll lower it a bit. I would prefer to have as much as possible participants.
