take this into consideration when locking your Real madrid pick for the next Matchday

seven covid-19 cases in Real Madrid (incl. Modric and Asensio from the starting 11) https://as.com/futbol/2021/12/16/primera/1639656201_175390.html

it was bound to happen, i mean, it's the holidays, super lax guidelines and protocols, just look at UK and the premier league. ugh, im so sick and tired of this pandemic  Lips sealed
I knew about Modric but did not know that it has already spread so far trough the team. What are the rules to postpone games in La Liga? We all know how it works in Premier League and we are seeing more and more games postponed. I am thinking we will have a covid break in Premier League until Boxing day probably.

I hate it when matches on my ticket get void. It ruins my insurance on x5 multi tickets and butchers the odds on high stake ones. They are only good for my local fiat bookie. They have special boosted odds for one game if you take 6 games multi. If all other games get voided you still get your boosted odds Smiley

now it is a Madrid-Sevilla race, with both cities having two teams in top4
It is not a race, Sevilla and especially Betis are playing some great football but no way they are title contenders. I will be surprised if they finish even above this very weak Barca side. They will hit a rough patch sooner or later and spill a lot of points. That meme with Bolt perfectly captures title race in La Liga, Real can loose this only if they "break the leg" to keep up with metaphor.

to clarify, I did not mean that they are title contenders, Real is already champion, IMO (I wrote that several times already)
it is just to capture that from Madrid/Barcelona, it is now Madrid/Sevilla, with Betis in

and regarding Barca, I do think that Sevilla will end up above Barca (and probably score in Europa league too), and Betis will probably be below Barca, but they are making difference at the moment, and will be interesting to see how much will Barca need to reach them, Sociedad is also there for position 4, but I think that they will finish below Barca and Betis

If Atletico will lose against Sevilla, they gap to Real will be huge already.

Sevilla is actually in a key week for staying in the top, and maybe putting their candidature for second place
first Atletico over the weekend, than Barca on Tuesday, both on their ground, for a big4 member it is a joke to lose both matches, and I really cannot see them winning both (with current rivals form, that should be their target)

with two wins, I would support them for second place in the end (Real is already champion, IMO)

If we look at the fixture of the next week, it will be Barcelona-Elche match.  Barcelona can easily win.  Sevilla - Atletico Madrid match will be very difficult.  3 points is very important for both teams.  The leader of the league, Real Madrid, will play Cadiz at the Santiago Bernabeu.  Real Madrid will win 3 points and get through this week without any problems.
Real Madrid will certainly get a win there because they are in a very good shape to win that match.
Real Madrid's form this season is really superb and they aren't afraid to beat any team, they  have really showed consistently and that alone will show that they are serious to win.
I bet Madrid win and over 2.5 goals.

Oh man slaman29 I just read about Barca's latest news. Aguero's just confirmed he's retiring from football.

I don't know much about the developments of his transfer but I do recall it was all about him finding a home to retire from football and to play with his good friend Messi... only to arrive at Barcelona when Messi gets pushed out, and then now to hang his boots up not in the way he'd have preferred.

I'll always remember him for THAT Agueroooooo goal. Of course he was a great deal more than that.

That's a sad news for football at large, it's better that the problem was detected early, the last thing we want is to witness another player collapse on the pitch.

It's funny how I had a great anticipation for this season, with the hope of Aguero and Messi, little did I know that I wouldn't get enjoy either of them in Barcelona shirt this season, c'est la vie right ?!

It was so sad to watch his press conference today. Pity that he had to retire much earlier than he wanted, but health is most important thing.
He was key player in Man City last decade and probably one of best players in EPL. Unfortunately he didn't got chance to play with Messi and his career in Barcelona lasted just 5 games. But at least he won Copa America with Messi last summer.

Words Barcelona and easy win can't be used in same sentence this season. Elche is close to bottom, but they're not easy team, they lost most of games just by 1 goal.
Real game against Cadiz shouldn't raise any questions.

Football has lost another legend, he was one of my favorite strikers and he was especially impressive before Guardiola started tinkering with formations and requiring him to play some deep roles so he can employ false 9 or make space for wingers to cut inside. At least he had a great career and this heart problems shortened it by year or two, could have been much worse if these problems started when he was in the best footballing years.

Too bad he did not get to play at least that half season with his buddy Messi, both for him and all Barcelona fans Smiley

As much as I hate to disagree about Real, it would be foolish of me to think they will slip up because this is simply something they don't do (unlike every other contender even like Atletico last season who actually did slip, but recovered in the final legs).

Anyway, thanks Trofo for grading, it was a great round for us and even better for me to win the freebet.

hate to admit, but hardly cashed on tickets
two misses in the pool, Barca cost me on tickets, with few others from other leagues
For me personally, the race ended in this round, as the gap of 40 points, even with a strong desire, I cannot overcome.

In principle, everything is clear with the champion title .. Sportsbet no longer accepts bets on the victory of Real [the tab is disabled]. Not to mention the fact that they can hypothetically win the next 5 rounds even with a minor squad, + for Real the only threat is a meeting with PSG in the C'League, (but I think here Real will show its best side too).

nevertheless, good round for me, first yellow cap this season, it is a shared one, but I do not mind

title race is maybe over, but with Betis playing solid football, will be interesting to see how Barca will try to catch up with them to reach position 4, it is 9 points difference with one match more played

BTW well done on Yellow Cap and #1 position.
This was a good week for most of us, really surprised how many correct scores we got. But still, casperBGD and PLGuru managed to get a couple of points more and raise their on the table. Congrats guys, hope you managed to cash those predictions on some ticket as well.

We have Spanish cup during the week so no challenge games until the week end, will grade and post new one a bit later.

@casperBGD nice image share lol I didn't quote post to save space but you're right. Last season Atletico had a huge huge cushion that was slowly eaten up. And they had Suarez finding ways to pop in goals at a pace that shouldn't have been possible. But he's tired and injured, and Simeone's team is suffering the usual comedown from such intense psychological effort.

I hate saying the race is over but it is.

BTW well done on Yellow Cap and #1 position.

we have Andalusian derby tonight, Cadiz is playing Granada
and yeah, it looks boring from the beginning, but Granada is a bit better at the moment

Real won yesterday, they will not let this points like Atletico last season, and although there is a lot to play till the end, I think that they took the title already

one image from TrollFootball regarding title race

there will be only one game played in la liga today. cadiz - granada does not look like an exciting match, but it can be an alternative option for football fans who are in search. cadiz has only 2 wins and 6 draws in 16 weeks. they have a bad performance. granada looks a little better than cadiz, but they don't perform well either. such matches decide the fate at the end of the league. both teams will play to win. my prediction: the match ends in a draw or granada wins.

You forgot about Pedri, he is by far the best of the mentioned, just fallen off the map a little after injuries got him. No surprise, since he played like 80 full games for Barca and Spain Last season. I expected him to get holidays after the tournament with Spain and instead he plays full 90 minutes in first game of the new season. They totally overused him.

In the good old days, most coaches protected their young players, and I think our Klopp is one of those who still does (Moyes is another I know who's extremely careful about not burning out their youth too soon). It's probably one of the trickiest things to do, develop young talent without burning them out or ruining their confidence, while taking them to their best. Every individual's different too but I feel like these days they're all chucked out too soon and then they fade so quickly (usually through exhaustion).

Real Madrid have continued their fine form in the league, and winning convincingly against Atletico Madrid have just help towards their potential title claim, while Barcelona and Xavi are still struggling to get a hold of themselves.

Everything is going in Real Madrid direction, and they don't look like they will be stopping anytime soon.
Wanted to watch the match but ended up playing one myself so I could not. Everything went pretty much like I expected only thought that Atletico will be able to score at least one goal in defeat. Judging from stats and reports, Courtois got the best grade in Real together with Modric so Atletico had their chances. Modric playing on extremely high level with 36 years getting praise from all Spanish sport journals, hope he will not get spent before the season ends.
