It is a broader problem. Today Brazil is on the red list so it's Liverpool's problem, tomorrow it might be Argentina and then it's somebody else's.

The rule itself is good, it gives national teams priority in normal situations. If a player is called up, the club has to release him - no matter the schedule. But in situations like these there must be room for some compromise - the players would have to quarantine upon return and be unavailable for training for the next 10 days. In professional sport that is unacceptable and the clubs are right to keep the players from leaving.

There may also be a legal basis to seek compensation from FIFA for all non-playing time.
Clubs will not be happy with that, but FIFA only understands the language of money.

must say that I doubt that clubs could seek compensation from FIFA, all player contracts probably have this clause or similar, that contract must align with FIFA/UEFA rules and that clause probably define what FIFA could/cannot do, I do not think that they do it blindly (could be proved wrong, but I doubt it)

on the other hand, yes it is harsh on Liverpool, but obviously not that harsh on other clubs, so I do not see that they will all fight it to back-up Liverpool, maybe I just do not see unity within EPL clubs, but when money is involved, I do not think that there is much fair-play as well, Leeds would probably sustain from helping it and tried to convince others to do the same, to get points on weekend

Brazil are being petty AF, embarrassing behaviour by them to be honest. Puts us (LFC) in a crappy situation ahead of a tough away game against Leeds. Oh well, they’ll be missing Raphinha who is a good player. I think the sanction is a 3-0 loss if a team plays an ineligible player. Not sure how they’d punish both teams in that situation.

It’ll be interesting to see how this develops. I imagine all the PL clubs will cooperate to try & fight this. Brazil is on the red list for UK travellers so I think there could be a legal case to fight this.

absolutely pointless. Clubs pay huge salaries to the players, it would certainly have to be respected. There may also be a legal basis to seek compensation from FIFA for all non-playing time.

Yep, for sure. The clubs are following England's general health recommendations, it's not like they are not letting players leave for some silly reason.
The rule itself is really stupid under current circumstances and FIFA should be the one that puts an end to this and says that global pandemic situation is above it. I mean, they postponed the Euros because of Covid, things like these should not even be discussed.

It is not just these games, there are additional qualifiers in October and November and if Brazil decides to play hardball and FIFA allows them to do so, it will cause a lot of problems for English clubs, mostly Liverpool.

Liverpool got a bad hit from FIFA they banned Alisson, Fabinho and Firmino from participation with their team for 5 days. as they refused their players from participation in the International Week with Brazil. Manchester United And City also will lose the use of Fred and Gabriel Jesus  for the same reason.
The Brazilian players will miss the match in EPL on Saturday and Sunday.
The decision of the Brazilian Confederation that invited them into the system allows teams to prevent their players whose clubs allow them to join the national team from participating with their clubs for 5 days.
There have been a total of 8 players that's going not to feature with their current clubs although it has emerged that Everton forward Richarlison will be allowed to play this weekend, due to Everton have a good relationship with the Brazilian federation because of Richarlison was allowed to play for Brazil in the Olympic Games in Beijing earlier this summer.

I have a thought that will not appeal to Arsenal fans, but will probably benefit the club itself. I think it would be useful for Arsenal to retire from the PL to the minor league for a year to revive, although even under the current circumstances it seems unlikely because by and large they only need to win 10 games. But if this happens anyway, even though it will benefit the club, it will also be a serious blow to Arsenal's self-esteem as one of the founding clubs of the PL.
That drop to lower league for revival purposes is not an option in England. There is enormous difference in money that clubs in Premier League get so relegation would cause much more problems. No matter how badly Arsenal plays they have more than enough qoulity to finish in the middle of Premier League and I am quite sure their revival will start in a couple days with Norwich game.

I certainly hope you're right.  I would happily take no points in the pool to be wrong about this one.  I'm just frustrated seeing the team drop in the table year after year, and I've lost faith in Arteta.

Of all the teams in the Premier League, Arsenal has had the longest run in the various forms of England's top-tier soccer league.  According to Wikipedia the last time the Gunners were relegated was during the 1913 season.  As an Arsenal fan, I can assure you that's a track record the team and the fanbase are very proud of.  I'm sure Arteta, the players, and Kroenke will do everything within their power to avoid relegation.

Are we going to have Champions League pool this season? I looked at schedule and it begines next week already, so, we have less than week to set up everything.
agree, we can expect weird results first game week after break
regarding the contest, could we expect a win from Arsenal, after cannonade they experienced in first three rounds? I doubt that they will win over Norwich on weekend
Yeah, after international break we often can see some strange results. Last international games will be played on Wednesday and EPL will continue on Saturday. So, players have just few days to return, recover and prepare for the next game. It's difficult, especially if players come from South America or Asia and they have to went through different time zones. Such intensive calendar obviously increase risk of injuries.

You don't need to 'lock' them (if that's what you actually did). As long as they're in then it's fine. It's best leaving them unlocked I find so you can change them if you change your mind or the line-ups change etc.

I locked my choices because I was curious about the predictions of the other participants. Also, I hoped that this tactic would work. The result was a disaster when I made a prediction considering the lineups in the first 3 weeks.

I predicted a tie for that game in the pool, but I really hope Norwich wins.  Three games into the season and Arsenal has yet to score a goal, I want heads on spikes (figuratively, of course.)  If no action is taken after this start, maybe a loss to a promoted team will make Kroenke notice that changes are necessary.  I've never seen Arsenal have such a slow start, and at this rate they look like a team bound for relegation.

International football pisses me off to be honest, total mood kill. Can’t wait for the PL games to return next weekend. It’s part of the fun for every weekend. I must do better in our pool next weekend though Cheesy

it's not just you, but certainly most of the people here Grin
nobody is interested in games like andorra vs. san marino or liechtenstein vs. germany ... a weekend without league games is a lost weekend Tongue

Well you don't have to watch those games but there's normally at least one fixture that is worth the watch, or at least you get to see some goals when a world class team plays a minnow.

i have already taken a look at the next matchday and there is one game that is already of great importance
arsenal vs. norwich
both clubs are still without points and especially arsenal london is lagging behind its goals. if they won't win the game against norwich city either, there will be a lot of trouble there.

I'm sure Arsenal will grab a win here. If they don't Arteta will be in big trouble. I wouldn't back the draw personally as I think this is the game where Arsenal will turn things around.

The first 3 weeks of the Premier League were like a nightmare for me. I'm at the 45th place now and several matches didn't end like I expected. I locked my choices well in advance for the 4th week by determining a different strategy. I hope that I can climb at least a few steps this week.

International breaks give clubs time to consolidate, correct mistakes, some injuries will be repaired. this is especially true for "small" clubs that have fewer players with international duties. they trained complete and were less tired.

and table, I am within top20, last season was bottomed throughout first part of the season, and somehow managed to enter top30 in the end, hopefully this season will be better, in the end, all comes to exact scores number

this still doesn’t mean much, because it’s just the beginning. One good round can it can lift you high, only 11 points between 10 - and 45th positions, it's four exact predictions.

Join the club bro, I’ve had a terrible start too. The season is still so young though, plenty of time to turn it round. Lots of points to play for, 35 matches for each team to play.

I'll be honest if it isn't the World Cup I have zero interest in international matches. I do tend to watch Wales in the Euros, but there's no where near as much passion in it for me as it would be if it was Wales playing rugby. I dread the international breaks every time, especially when the league literally just started a few weeks ago, what is it three weeks ago? Ridiculous, literally been itching for the league to start, and we already have a break.

I think some players also prioritise  club matches over international. I know Ryan Giggs did, and I know Joel Matip has also retired from his Cameroon duties, I'm not entirely sure if that was more political or just because he prefers club football though. On the flip side, Gareth Bale usually plays better for Wales than I've seen him play for years for club football.
