This blunder could have been avoided so easily. The goal was scored in the 42nd minute, and it is a clear goal - no doubt about it.

I don't understand why they did not start the 2nd half with a 1-0 score for Sheffield. The refs must have known that it was a goal during the halftime.

Sheffield really needed these points in their pursuit of an European spot for next season and this is a huge mistake.

I hope to see much better football in City - Arsenal game.

This was also a boring supposenly big team opening match which I regretted watching. I didn't bother watching the early game but the controversial disapproval of the goals got my attention from the highlight which was displayed before the kick-off of the Manchester city vs Arsenal game.

If other games would be like the Man City vs Arsenal game (just one sided and boring) then they should just end the season lol. Anyone else feels that, the 5 substitution rule is just too much, it didn't feel like i was watching a competitive game instead a club friendly.

I went for 1-1. Is anyone watching the game? Seems like they haven't set up goal line technology or VAR yet  Grin. Villa probably should have had a penalty but it didn't go to VAR and then the Villa player accidentally bumped his own keeper who was holding the ball into the net taking it over the line but the ref was indicating that his watch didn't go off so no goal. VAR should have been consulted or stepped in.

It was a mistake, obviously. Sheffield get apologises from Hawk-Eye. though I’m not sure how much that means to them, they were left without winning points.

"Hawk-Eye apologises after goalline technology error denies Sheffield United

The operator of the Premier League's goalline technology system has apologised after an error denied Sheffield United a goal in their 0-0 draw at Aston Villa.

To be honest I wasn't expecting much. I only watched it because it was the first game back. Normally I would have stayed well away. Happy with the point though. Only one person when with the 0-0.
I also didn't had big expectations, but didn't expected that it will be so bad. From what I saw in Bundesliga and La Liga, first games after restart weren't that bad as this one. But probably even in normal conditions Villa - Bournemouth wouldn't be very interesting game.

Totally dumb. That was a goal and no one questioned it, not even the defence, and then the ref says his watch didn't go off. Really, no VAR or goalline tech? Anyway, that's one of my bets gone down the drain heh.

Too risky to bet on these opening games. Anything can happen. Best waiting a round or two to see how teams form is.

Anyone else hear the canned audience? A half-second too late on my channel. Weird.

Yeah. You can't turn it off on dazn. Seemed a bit weird at first but it's probably better than nothing really. I prefer it just as background noise rather than them turning the chanting up when there's something happening. That's what makes it sound fake or bad.  Just have it as a constant thing just to drown out the silence.

Well, honestly first match after return was very disappointing and boring. Football level was very low there. And that moment with goal line technology and VAR was something really weird. It's amazing that they didn't managed to set up these thing properly. It's not Sunday league after all.

Guys, today Aston Villa is gonna win 1-0 and Man City will win with a comfortable 2-0. Guys, seriously, these two correct picks will guarantee you 6pts in total today. thank me later Smiley

Exactly! People giving too much importance to Shef Utd. I think Aston Villa will win this one comfortably. I am going for 2-0 in favor of Aston Villa.

About second game, Manchester should win that one easily. Goal difference would be 2 or higher. But Arsenal gonna get 1 easily that's why I am going with 3-1.

Damn, seems that most of you guys here predict that Vila is going to win.
Am I the only one who predict the opposite? I predict that Sheff will win but with low goal difference. Maybe 0-1 or 1-2.
Makes me confuse tbh lol, made me think whether I should change the prediction or keep mine?
It is indeed so hard to predict after long break, no one knows how the current form of each team.
But I decide to keep mine...lets see the result. Wink
@panjul07 you not alone I am also under you and have same prediction for Shef Utd to win hopefully we will able to have our first win after break good luck to you and me Cheesy Wink

I was changed from A.Villa wins to drawn, still think Sheffield is not accidentally in potential 5th place. it is very difficult to predict anything after so long break, maybe we can be sure that Arsenal can't win against ManCity, not even a draw.
I did not follow all new rules, how much subs they can do it, still on three or like in Laliga five per team?

Oh come all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant.

Made my two picks. Arsenal to win, so we can get some extra joy at Goodison, shan't we? I mean City at full strength with Sane and Laporte but you never know, I think it's the old guys like Auba who get the most benefit out of a long break =D

It almost certainly would be a huge success, it's just the PL having the balls to take the plunge and sever ties with traditional broadcasters. Eventually most things will go to streaming or VOD so there's no point trying to fight the inevitable. It seems most other sports have their own streaming streaming as well so the PL just needs to get with the times. People will just continue to use either illegal services or go the grey market route like I do and find a foreign broadcaster like dazn that you can use with a proxy without them. I'm sure even a lot of the people who pay for illegal IPTV would just go with the legit streaming service if there was one as IPTVs are probably going to cost you around £100 for the year anyway. They could probably even still keep Sky involved as well if they wanted. They should probably offer an exclusive Premier League package along with a streaming/VOD service that you could buy rather than coughing up for the full Sky sports package when most people don't want 90% of the stuff on there.

Absolutely. Every time people talk about them bad people pirating shows, it all boils down to access. Football is different and people who love it enough will pay for it. I know I'm absolutely not the only one who WANTS to pay for it properly.

Finally, the day has come, we have the best league in the world back. Have to admit I am way too excited for something that should not mean that much to me. Now we just need Championship league restart and the world will be all right again  Grin

Unfortunately, I will not be able to watch the games today since I will be driving at that time. Will make my picks later but also leaning towards City and Sheff or maybe Villa could get a draw.

They could easily get rid of the 3 o clock blackout if they wanted or just stop showing games at that time to bypass the restriction. We know from other leagues around the world that it doesn't effect ticket sales. La Liga has all their games at different times so you can watch them all if you wanted and they're not financially hit. The PL could easily make an argument that millions are lost by not showing them. With the billions in extra revenue that showing all the games brought in you could give more to the teams that was affected if any.
But probably problem is FA. They simply don't want to lift blackout. It doesn't affect ticket sales in EPL, because stadiums are full, no matter game is on TV or no. But I remember reading that it may have negative impact for lower division clubs. Some people may prefer watching EPL on TV, instead of supporting their local team at stadium. But IMO, this rule is so outdated and from other top leagues we can see that it doesn't have significant impact.

Folks, it's time to finally sign in to your Superbru accounts and leave predictions. Less than 48 hours until return of EPL.

Well yeah it's the lower leagues they argued it would effect but the Premier League can easily give them their share of the TV revenues if they were effected, but we know showing games or not doesn't effect them. It's an outdated an faulty argument based on nothing but presumption. The millions possible billions this would bring in extra revenue could easily be shared between lower leagues. I think it would be a good idea for the PL to put some money into supporting the lower league teams more to help them get a boost up for potential growth anyway.

Only ten people have done their picks so far. Over 20 still need to do them.
