So apparently, after the opening games, there will be no 2 games played at the same time. Plus, there will even be some weeks where there will be a game played every night! Apparently, this is to reduce the losses for the TV rights guys, so they get more eyeballs on every game.

So. Ready for EPL bingeing guys?

@buywaytress , just pray to every football god there is !!!

I'm doing it the way I do Liverpool. Pretend nothing's happening, expect the worst, and be pleasantly surprised. Heh.

Slava Ukraini!
Finally! After La Liga, EPL is second most awaited tournament for me. Serie A also announced about return date. So, June and July will be full of football. It had to be time of Euro 2020, but instead we will watch top club football. Now we only have to wait until UEFA will announce about return dates of Champions and Europa league.
I just logged into my Superbru account after few months break, but obviously you can't leave predictions yet, because schedule wasn't announced yet.

DeathAngel made me go cray in another thread but while I see the news all over BBC, Sky and ESPN, I haven't seen the EPL itself give any statement? Is this true? I don't want my heart to break and all that now, do I?

@LFC: if the new season DOESN'T begin, this will be me:

Breaking news boys and girls! First shared by LFC_Bitcoin on the EPL thread but all clubs -- yes, including Watford -- have all agreed to resume contact training after the government's go ahead. June 12 agreed as too soon, no date will be determined but seems June is still very much in the offer if we see another unanimous vote next week maybe?

@toke: no worries you could still win my transfer bet.

Looks like I'm gonna lose a bet again.  Dammit.  -_-

But good news.  And I hope we get this pandemic behind us asap.  I'm a little depressed for a couple of weeks now tbh.

The good news keeps coming, now contact training has been given the go ahead by the UK government. Finally we can see that the possibility of anything other than completing the season has a very low probability. I can’t wait to get this show back on the road & we can see Liverpool crowned as champions Wink

https://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/sportsnews/article-8353051/Government-Premier-League-EFL-green-light-accelerate-Project-Restart-plans.html

Quote
The Premier League and Football League have been given the go-ahead by the Government to accelerate plans to complete their seasons.

The Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport have released phase two of their 'elite sport returning to training guidance' which enables competitive and close-contact training.

Seems like the football could return even sooner. June 20th will probably be the more likely date though than anything sooner.

Neutral venues back on the agenda as Premier League clubs set to discuss using a combination of grounds to allay police concerns at crucial Project Restart meeting on Thursday

Looks like we'll probably have more information on Thursday/Friday as a pretty big meeting is taking place. Maybe they'll announce the date of the restart then. They're also discussing the TV rights and what to do about refunds. What actually happens with that will be interesting sand whether the TV companies are ok with whatever they vote on.

@hilarious/DeathAngel: don't worry we'll get out picks in. Watford was supposed to be the first game but wasn't it Deeney and a lot of the Watford players who're refusing to play?

I've given up on updating myself on Project Restart but it does appear there is hope for a June restart, and working with the police (who insist on the neutral venues).

@toke @DeathAngel now you know how my life feels like. Had a long career where weekends didn't mean anything so when I moved to freelance and remote work from home 4 years ago, I had to really adjust to school and weekends. And then now everyone's home since end of Feb, they're feeling crazy but I'm back to "every day is the same"! If not for my youngest and his schedule, I actually wouldn't know anything haha.

Anybody done their round 30 picks in Superbru yet?
Might be an idea to start doing them incase you forget when the season begins. That’s what tgis thread is for, right?
Cheesy

Jumping the gun a bit  Cheesy, but just done mine now. I doubt anyone will forget though as once the league gets the go ahead it will be all over the media.

I wonder if the fixtures will resume as normal? Watford v Leicester is apparently the first one back if they play them as they were and that could be a great game. Merseyside derby is also on the same round but the last game.

^  Today's Saturday?  Cheesy

Seriously...  I was gonna force myself to watch some Bundesliga 'this weekend' thinking it was like..  a Wednesday or Thursday.

It’s crazy isn’t it, every day blends into one. We don’t go back to work until June 1st, I’m so bored. I watched some  Bundesliga yesterday, it’s nowhere near as fun for me personally but at least it’s something to keep me occupied.

I haven't watched any of the games yet but I'll watch the Dortmund/Bayern game on Tuesday.

PL is rumoured to be returning weekend of June 20th so we have that to look forward to.

Well I suppose if they're playing games in a shorter period it might help, but has that been confirmed yet? I haven't heard anything in a while on whether they'll be playing in neutral venues or not or whether things will just carry on as normal in regards to fixtures.

I haven't seen anything concrete about these topics so far. Only what we already discussed here, some ideas being tossed around both by clubs and the committee.
I guess they will agree on all of that after some more meetings and maybe a week before the league starts. So far personally I think games will be played at regular stadiums. But that's just a hunch.

I don't see why it's necessary at the moment though. What disadvantage are they paying under where they need 5 subs?

My logic is that there will be a lot more games clustered in a smaller period of time than in normal league schedule. I'm not sure if the 5 vs 3 subs per single game will make that much of a difference for players' general condition though, if any at all.
I understand your viewpoint, I just think that no real harm would come from it and am more indifferent to it. It might actually bring more goals because attackers tend to be the more substituted players Grin

Though, from what I saw in Bundesliga so far, managers don't always use all 5 substitutions.

I guess it'll just be like any other game where not all the subs get used. Probably rare though and they usually get brought on towards the end just to get some playing time. I guess it will depend on the situation though, as you don't want to be bringing on inexperienced players just for the sake of it or changing up your team too much, especially if the game is still close.
