France vs Poland @ 15:00 GMT
England vs Senegal @ 19:00 GMT

We should see France & England advance to the 1/4 final but this World Cup has been very unpredictable. Let’s hope we see two entertaining games, hoping I can pick up some EXACT scores to climb the table in our pool Smiley

Sure, odds have been strange for that game but since Netherlands have been playing very effective so far (not many attemps on target), maybe it's for a time when Netherlands are less lucky. But turned out to be a good bet, Netherlands won 3-1 against USA.
In addition, odds are looking interesting for Japan to qualify against Croatia, I don't know why bookmakers are favoring Croatia so much. Croatia vs. Belgium has been very lucky for Croatia...

Croatia is much better than Japan and that is a sure fact and I fully agree with the bookies,Japan beside the game they beat Germany they did not show anything else as they lost against Costa Rica and Spain in 99.99% of the case let them win trying to make also Germany fail to go further than the group stage.
I agree that Croatia is slightly favorite here and players like Modric and Kramaric will be a huge factor.
Croatia and Japan have been surprises so far and while Japan was very weak against Costa Rica but strong against Germany and Japan, Croatia has been very lucky against Belgium. Sure, Belgium is a very good team and their fail during group stage is a big surprise but only in the second half, Belgium had so many good opportunities where Croatia was very lucky.
In comparison, Japan didn't face such a massive pressure against Spain in their 2nd half.
Sure, Spain didn't play all-in but I'm sure the players of Spain were well aware that if Costa Rica could maintain the lead against Germany, Spain would be out as well.
So, I expect a close game where Japan will be competitive of course and maybe that game will go over extra time and even penalty shootout.

Argentina controlled game until Australia scored goal out of nowhere and it made last 15 minutes very interesting.
Very lucky goal for Australia indeed and it would have been very sad for Argentina to get extra time and possibly penalty shootout which are always a huge gamble. Argentina had several 100% opportunities to score 3-1 but missed it and was very lucky in the end. Great save from keeper Martinez in 90+6 as well.
I was just watching Martinez missing all those great chances yesterday and then I remembered Lukaku misses against Croatia. Don't remember when was the last time I saw two great strikers so out of form. Inter Milan will have to create 30+ chances per game to score a goal with those two up front  Grin

First day of knockout stages went more or less according to the script. Should be more of the same today and then we have first though to call game in Japan - Croatia. Really hope our boys can pull trough. Those games when opponent presses up high are usually great for us since Modrić and Kovačić are maybe the best midfielders in the world to take care of that.

I can't believe my eyes - luck finally smiled at me and I exactly guessed the far from obvious score in the game Netherlands - USA!  Shocked
I must say that despite the score, if we evaluate purely statistical indicators, then the United States was at least no worse. The Netherlands achieved the result simply due to the fact that their class is higher. All in all, it's a pity that a great US team is going home, but that's what the playoffs are like.

Better finishers on their team, for sure. Pulisic is their main hope but we already know since leaving Germany he's anything but a clinical finisher. I don't think they were ever good enough for more than group progressors, but still, a better showing than previous iterations I guess.

A good game overall from the Netherlands, they look much more dangerous with Depay playing. They are strong in defence and really tactical under Van Gaal. I liked them so far - they will be a tough nut to crack for anybody.

I didn't like them at all in group stage, but this match they started the way I enjoy, much, much more like their Nations League form. I suspect they actually have a good chance this Friday if they have the same type of start. Can't bet against a motivated Messi, though.

Despite getting correct results for some unexpected matches, I'm far from the leaderboard.

I used to be you, 3 pool seasons ago in EPL. So not worth it when there are many games, but you might stand to gain with QFs because the huge underdogs will probably be out by then, then it's very close and most people like me will still go for favs.

I expected that it will be more difficult game for Netherlands, they didn't impressed me in group stage and I liked how USA looked there. But today Netherlands remind me team that they had in 2010-2014.
Argentina - Australia. Unbeleavable, but true - Messi scored his 1st play-off round goal in his 5th World Cup. Argentina controlled game until Australia scored goal out of nowhere and it made last 15 minutes very interesting. That moment when Australian defender went through maybe 4 Argentina players and almost scored goal was amazing.
Argentina - Netherlands in 1/4 final, this is where big games begins  Cool

I will add Mexico and Serbia too.
Germany, Uruguay, Mexico were doing everything but because of the result from other matches, they had could not qualify even after winning their last match with dominance.
Well, before tournament Mexico reaching next round didn't looked like obvious scenario, they're not that much better team than Poland. And Serbia, they have some good players, but they never had good perfromances at big tournaments. Personally, in FIFA predictor I marked both these teams on 3rd place before tournamnet.

Argentina vs Netherlands will be really intresting and i think that match will go in to extra time,i really dont see anyone winning in the first 90 minutes both teams are at same level as far as i seen at this world cup. Serbia had big expectations but ended up last in the group with some big players in their squad.

Netherlands v Argentina in quarter final sounds like a tasty match. Messi, de Jong, de Light, Lisandro, Lautaro, Memphis...

I'd put my money on Argentina tho... Too much firepower

I don't mind Netherlands putting US to the sword as I'm ready).
Everything looks so easy for the Clockwork Orange. Memphis was an absolute flop in FC Barcelona... And out of nowhere he's leading the team to another final. Fantastic work from van Gaal

You would be right with their defense Netherlands cannot bode that well against Argentina despite them not playing well in the game against Australia right now and they even risk to get a draw twice in the last 5 minutes but they were lucky to not get it and also unlucky to not score again in the extra times of 7 minutes which they had a lot of occasions to do so.Lautaro and Messi failed to score in this extra time, nevertheless it was magical to see both Lautaro and Messi playing in the same team, truly wonderful and I wonder why Scaloni prefers Alvarez who beside scoring the goal and not with great merit didn't do anything else while Lautaro played much better.

I thought Argentina would win more confidently, but now I don't really care what the exact result is. Today my bet played. Unfortunately, the same cannot be said about the bet in the pool, but overall a good day.
I wonder if we will see another 8-9 added minutes and a nervous ending? Who would have guessed this, looking at the names of the teams.

My predictions and previews for this 3 games  Grin :

Japan vs Crotia - even if we believe or not , Japan have a very strong play-style in second half and I'm sure Croatia is aware of it but I don't see Croatia winning the game, as at some point Japan will have fresh player on the pitch and this is a huge different in this World Cup in my opinion so I will have to trust Japan to qualify.

France vs Poland - it was always rough for France to win against Poland in official games and they also met last time back in 2011 and that makes the game hard to read but I still think this generation of France can make it to the finals again and protect their trophy.

Senegal vs England - well , I hope this game won't go to extra time and penalties but once again , this generation of England players must prove that they indeed special and win the game tomorrow.

Regarding bets , it seems if I bet pre-live I won't hit most of them so I stick to live betting for now.

I doubt Australia goes further away as they face Argentina tonight which I think will "massacre" Australia
Most likely you are right here. Australia had a big portion of luck to get there, a weak Denmark unable to score and a lucky goal for Australia itself. Possibly, the game wil be similar to what happened to them in group stage, when France beat them 4-1.
Poland has been very lucky to get there as well, when Poland was hoping in the 3rd round of group stage that Argentina only wins 2-0 and Mexico doesn't score one more goal. Huge luck for Poland and I expect a massacre against Poland from France as well.

I also wonder why Netherlands had an odd 1.96 against USA and this scared me so I only bet on them to qualify further at 1.45 which I think is like a sure bet.

Finally a perfect result for me ,didnt expect it all before the match and was even worried when usa scored that i wasnt gonna win any points. This 3 points dont mean anything for me on the leaderboard but its nice to at least compete for the weekly ranking

I had it 2-0 for Netherlands,I forgot how pathetic Netherlands are in defense and against a strong adversary I don't think they will win any games, nevertheless I won the bet Netherlands to qualify and now I wait only Argentina to win in my double Netherlands and Argentina to win.I am gradually moving away from slots and loving much better the soccer,I could not wait and wanted to win instantly but now I learned that patience pays better dividends.

I think dumfries is the man of the match today, he assisted two goals and scored a beautiful goal as well. Luckily he was in my official squad for the fantasy game.

Well done Slissy for taking home the yellow cap, I started really well but took my luck too far (did anyone notice Ulven raking in the exact scores and upsets though?).

^^
Despite getting correct results for some unexpected matches, I'm far from the leaderboard.

I forgot to put my picks once again - that makes it 4 games in total so far. I don't know whether to be happy to still be 20th or to be so pissed off because I'm 4 points away from a top 5 position.

That was a fast goal from the Dutch, for the first time not Gakpo having to break down defence, and the first time I've seen the Dutch play the way they're used to. Just their counters are still incredibly slow. Memphis off the mark quickly, I don't mind Netherlands putting US to the sword as I'm ready

Didnt expect less than from you lol
Although it was not 1 - 2 for Cameroon but it was 0 - 1 and I do not think anyone was predicting it. Not even me believed when I was making the post LOL
I was wrong about Switzerland not going to the 2nd round because I was not hoping them to win against Serbia.

while big names like Belgium, Uruguay, Germany eliminated already.

I doubt Australia goes further away as they face Argentina tonight which I think will "massacre" Australia by beating them with a tennis result if they play at full power and there is no reason tonight to not play at full power because by not doing so they risk a lot, they risk the World Cup so finally we are in that time where calculations are out of the equation.

I also wonder why Netherlands had an odd 1.96 against USA and this scared me so I only bet on them to qualify further at 1.45 which I think is like a sure bet.

bear in mind that it is a WC, and even on 2:0, Argentina will probably be more on reaching the end, comparing to risky attacks and eventual conceiving goal, tactics above football beauty

they can score few more if Australia put all effort in attack, but that is also highly unlikely

regarding Netherlands, they didn't show much, but odds on them winning are value bet IMO
