Oh come on, Poland goes through after today's performance? They were horrible throughout the whole 90 minutes.

It is a shame that fair play can be the deciding factor in such situations, it pushed Mexico to go all in and concede that late goal.
Otherwise Poland would still go through, but only because they received less yellow cards than Mexico.

I recall that happening only once, last WC when Japan qualified based on that criteria ahead of Senegal.
This was totally undeserved for Poland, they never even thought to try and score a goal against Argentina, they can thank only Szczesny for their place in knockout stages. Saved a couple of almost certain goals and kept their goal difference good enough to push Mexico into overextending. While we are on Szczesny saves, he even saved a penalty by Messi and I must admit this was one of the strangest penalties I have ever seen awarded.

I agree,Argentina played with just football with one port and the only occasion Poland had was that header from the veteran player they had still playing in the national team, other than that they just totally parked the bus and this is a stupid thing to do against teams like Argentina.I think the hero of the game was their goalkeeper who gave them this truly undeserved qualification as Mexico showed much better game play and they scored the most magnificent goal so far of the whole tournament with that awesome free kick.

I wouldn't say it was undeserved for Poland to qualify for the next round simply because they didn't do well enough to posed just one goal threat against Argentina and it seemed they literally all out to only secure a draw, Mexico were not a different when they played Argentina as well, they literally just sat back too and tried to secure a draw which would have left Argentina in dire situation, I'd rather commend the Saudi Arabian team even though they lost the last two matches of the game, I'd say they were the only team of the other 3 besides Argentina to have a approached every game with the hope of getting something positive from it.

If the cases were reversed and it was Mexico playing Argentina last night, I strongly doubt they'd have done any better than Poland actually did, so If the game was unfair to any of the four teams, I'd say it was Saudi Arabia that got unlucky.

I agree about Saudi Arabia, their coach though which went viral with that motivation video after they were losing 1-0 to Argentina in the first game and after that speech they came in and overturn the situation in their favor 1-2,I must say their coach changed their mentality for the better. While they were always feeling inferior to any team they played in the World Cup they got and won against one of the strong contender for the title.I must say that the most unlucky game they had is exactly against Poland where they missed a penalty which could have changed the fate of that game.

Damn, what a drama. It already looked that yellow cards tie breaker will be used to decide who will reach next round - Poland or Mexico. Similar like Japan vs Senegal in 2018 World Cup. In last minutes Mexico even scored 3rd goal that they needed, but there was offside. And then Saudi Arabia managed to punish Mexico, scored goal and made score. Poland - Argentina game was already over and Poland players celebrated Saudi Arabia goal like they scored it themselves.
But in general, Poland didn't played football today, it was just parked bus. They will face France in round of 16 and I don't see big chances for them there.
And that moment when I don't even bother about my pool position. I'm doing so bad that there is no chances for my to fight for prize spots, so I leave my predictions with easy hand.

Such a weird day today. I never expected Australia to progress from their group, and Denmark is by far the team that has disappointed the most.

I'm rooting for Argentina to go far but I'm glad that Szczesny saved Messi's penalty, it shouldn't have been given in the first place.
Argentina is dominating the game so they'll probably still get the winning goal in the 2nd half.

so in the end, Saudis saved Poland from draw, and let them into next round
Mexico fought hard, but they will watch it from home

it is Argentina vs Australia and France vs Poland in knock-out round, will be interesting - Argentina to Netherlands and France to England are expected QF pairs

Wow. Was actually doing so well, 4 exact scores out of 6 games with 2 solid underdog wins to rescue myself from the bottom -- climbed 29 positions at that point, and one of the missed games was the Tunisia win that no one saw. Unfortunately, I pushed my luck too far backing a Saudi win haha.

Still, happy with progress, but not sure if now's the time to go back to favourites and get scores right, or ping some more picks against the favourites? Seems like the group stages are throwing up great upsets.

Just watching Poland vs Argentina. Feels so strange that Argentina could crash out in the group stage if one of Saudi Arabia or Mexico get 3 points in the other game in Group C. Surely Messi will come up with some magic like he always does.

Congrats to our good friend Steve & sportsbet.io as his fellow countrymen did him proud. The Aussies prevail from Group D to qualify for the last 16, finishing runners up behind France.

Was weird enough Poland would go through on fairplay, made Mexico go for broke, and allowed Saudi to nail the coffin for them.

Australian history, Steve needs to buy everyone beers for the next 4 years!

I thought the Ronaldo pen was soft but this was beyond soft -- not only was it unavoidable, the ball had gone, and it was just gloves on his face. We can forgive it now, but if this happens at latter stages and KO is at stake..?

Probably not many saw Australia reaching next round.

Wow! Never underestimate the Socceroos.  Cheesy

Joking aside. I never expected Australia to make it to the last 16 in this group. But now, with two well-deserved wins against Tunisia and Denmark, they made it to the last 16. Amazing! This world cup is full of surprises, LOL. Damn, that would have been a great bet. Unfortunately, I didn't have the guts. Like always. Any bets who they will be facing in the last 16?

While Denmark is biggest disappointment for me in this tournament.

Yep, same here. I had them on a clear win today. Extremely disappointing results. I had them actually expected to move on relatively easy.

To be honest this position doesn't seem offside when we look at from this angle. Referees started the game after that without even reviewing it for once. Ah! It's my luck as usual. If the referee called it a goal then I was going to have the opportunity to bet on England's over 2.5 and guarantee my bet. Sad

This is why you need better angles because from an obtuse angle they often can look either on or off depending on the view. You need a camera straight down the line to be sure but they have some sort of new CGI system for the world cup that shows it in a better light. It's worse in my opinion though because it's catching all the ones that are a fraction of a millimetre offside. IF they're sticking with VAR onwards they should change the rule so you just need one part of your body onside. Disallowing a goal because a mere shoulder or toe is offside is silly.

How you can disallow such goal, even after VAR review? IMO, Griezmann scored legitimate goal and that moment when he was in offside, he didn't participated in attack, it was passive offside. Or maybe I don't understand something.
I too honestly don't understand how was it an off-side? There was another one against Brazil in the last match too. Do fifa have any new off-side rule? But whatever it is, these off-sides are ruining the fun of the matches. There were too many already.

While Denmark is biggest disappointment for me in this tournament.
I was even considering them to be in the final against Netherlands LOL

But that moment when of Tunisia against current World Cup champions didn't helped them. Yeah, France played with second squad, but win is still impressive.
While Denmark is biggest disappointment for me in this tournament. As said before, I had them as black horses who can go far. But when you score just 1 goal in 3 games and can't show anything against Australia, you can't expect good outcome. Probably not many saw Australia reaching next round.

Well well, i really didnt expect his one, Denmark the dark horse of a lot of people its out in group stage, in a "easy" group, i think so much politics in the head of the players and no football.

I see the las 20 minutes of the game, and the performance of Denmark was pathetic, seems like they dont want to play.

Congratulations to Australia!

Khazri puts the ball in the goal of the French national team, I did not expect this, what a surprise. I think currently the Tunisian national team will qualify for the second round if the result of the tie between Denmark and Australia continues. I haven't made any progress here in the pool so I guess I'll just put my picks at random. ^^

What a mega idiot im, im i so much competitions that i forget to put the picks in this one for the first two matchs of today.

I was in the kitchen eating and seeing the games and my brain says "do you put the picks in Superbru?", and was.... fuck. So i go to the pc and put all my selections.

To be honest i would put Ecuador 1 Senegal 1 so i cant lie i dont lose any point Tongue.

Im really back now in the pool, i need a boost.

Familiar situation. In order not to forget to make predictions, I immediately make a prediction for the whole match day, so I have to strain myself only once every 4 days. And then I don’t even remember what results I chose  Cheesy A lot of illogical results in the pool and I don't really worry about the place I take. There are not many games ahead to seriously improve my situation.

I did the same, missed the 1st game of the 2nd round and the first 2 games of the 3rd round.
I was given default picks though - but they didn't do me much good.

Currently I'm 25th - which I'm not too happy with Grin

I also did the same but not forgetting to put my picks but choosing a draw 1-1 for Ecuador as the most logical result only to be surprised by the thousand time that the most logical result in a football game rarely happens yet I do not seem to learn my lesson.

I am currently 34th and happy about it considering how things are going we are all into play for a spot in the top ten as there are quite a lot of games ahead,I know many will try to find an alternate way and not go with the favorites in order to climb positions but I am staying with the favorites until the end,if I end up 10th I would be happy if I end up below I would again be happy as I enjoy the pool.

From this angle it's difficult to judge, but there was replay with 3D graphics and from it offisede was obvious:

Aaah okay, this 3D animation wasn't shown on Austrian TV. You're right, here you can clearly see that it was offside. Just watching the slow motion, I could have sworn it wasn't offside. However, now you see once again how the TV angle can deceive you, LOL.

Anyway, the 1-0 win was a close call in the end, but still enough to advance to the round of 16. Pretty excited to see the US boys playing the Netherlands now. That should be a fun-to-watch game.  Cool

I know that feeling bro. The same happened to me in the last Bundesliga season. I was quite tilt at first, but was very lucky that the results of the games were quite unexpected and the other participants didn't score too big, hehe.

Wales 0-3 England

On to the last 16 for Southgate’s men, as they set up a last 16 tie with Senegal. England will be very happy that Mane is injured. He could have caused them real problems. As it stands, I don’t expect much trouble for England in that game.

I’ve moved up to 10th place in our pool, just hanging on at the moment. I don’t to fall too far behind & stay in touch in time for the 1/4 finals. That’s when the assault begins to try & win the pool, the real business end of the tournament.

Must be feeling very happy as a supporter, I wish they wouldn't have met Senegal however, because I wanted both teams to progress!!

The good news is England are currently the top scorers with 9 goals in 3 games, Spain has a chance to beat that but I doubt it can happen even if I support them, I just get the feeling Japan will allow max 1 goal.

10th place is awesome, I checked and I didn't do so badly, which was a surprise and I dropped a few places in this new round but plenty more games to go, so it's a tight fight. 8 points away from the top, feels quite far away!
