Welcome to Steemit, decentralized and incentivized social media.

Steemit is a new social media platform built on the Steem blockchain where the community rewards individuals for their posts, comments and votes, co-founded by Ned Scott, CEO, and Daniel Larimer, CTO of Steemit and founder of Bitshares.

Underneath the hood of Steemit.com there is a tradeable cryptocurrency token, called Steem, and it's performing well on the US-based exchange, bittrex.com, and blockchain-based exchange openledger.info. With Steemit.com, posts, comments and votes are immutable.  Attribution is a given. Accreditation is not taken for granted. And community appreciation is an actual reward.

We were recently in the press. Here is an article from CoinReport: https://coinreport.net/conversation-ned-scott-ceo-steemit/.  And another from Coin Desk: http://www.coindesk.com/facebook-user-controlled-social-media-blockchain/

There are large rewards being distributed for Steemit's first and largest distribution on July 4th.  See the leaderboard at https://steemit.com/trending.  There are Sub-Steems for talking about cryptocurrency and Bitcoin, as well as many other topics.

Steem rewards long term holders .. By Purchasing Steem and "Powering Up" the Steem, the holder earns more Steem and voting power to use on Steemit.com  Voting power allows the user to earn more Steem.

Sign up on steemit.com today to have your account funded with 10 Steem, and let’s be part of the movement for a better online community.

Best regards,

Ned, "steem" CEO of Steemit, https://www.linkedin.com/in/nedscott

I would love to use steemit but when I created an account there it says my number was already used by another user. I do not really know what happened, if I just have forgotten my account before. They did not even give me code to verify my phone and so I can proceed to creating my account. Please help

I am short on Steem and long on Bitshares.

1. BTS is collecting money with fees, while Steem is printing money
2. BTS has almost 4 times bigger volume than Steem
3. Daniel Larimer is working on Steem 2.0 without the whale power
4. with BTS you can borrow bitUSD and buy more BTS
5. weak hands sold BTS, because they thought EOS will replace BTS, but EOS will make BTS only better
6. BTS already dropped hard and is stable on the 1800 Satoshi line, Steem is not stable against BTC.

Top 6 reasons to invest your Steem in BTS, borrow some bitUSD and buy the next dip.

Well, we can not say that the idea was new, but nevertheless, as we all can see the project is gaining increasing popularity. Which is generally good.

So let's move the bounties from Facebook and Twitter into Steemit!!!

I created a topic to gather the few existing bounty campaigns that support Steemit.

Take a look here https://bitcointalksearch.org/topic/where-are-steemit-bounties-at-3095567

Since Facebook and Twitter announced they will ban all ICO promoting on their platforms, I believe it's a good chance for Steemit to get back on track, though I don't know if Steemit would have such a big impact on ICO and crypto promo as Facebook or Twitter!

Facebook and Twitter will ban paid advertise to cryptocurrency.

People can still post whatever they want about whatever subject. This won’t have a big impact in campaigns and stuff.

The biggest change is the paid banners, and crypto ads that will cease to exist.

Yep, I registered on steemit and posted an article about reviews for a blog bounty post. Only got 1 like and still finds it difficult to know how it works. I know it’s a social media platform but getting around it seems difficult more so that its an altcoin presently on its own exchange and some monies are made per post. Too bad got none for mine. Any one who can put me through this, I will appreciate.

Steemit values unique content. The project already has an explosive nature - it can be seen on the coin rates - and will develop at such rates. When posting articles, try to ensure that their content is relevant to readers and has useful information. The higher the quality of the content you put, the more votes you get and the higher your earnings. Thank others to receive gratitude. You receive your reward in domestic currencies - STEEM DOLLARS and STEEM POWER. These currencies can be brought to the stock exchange, transferred to Bitcoin, and then to fiat or Altcoins.

LOL, who else is getting bored with Steemit now. Are you guys also witnessing a drastic drop in upvotes to minnows? Things were still better just a few months ago, but now it's just the shit posts at the top and quality authors are not even getting bread crumbs!! I am thinking of leaving Steemit. It has been 1 year, and things have gone from bad to worse. Yes, the prices of the Steem and SBD have increased many folds, but that's the case with most other currencies. As for the upvotes, I think it is easy to get upvotes if you make groups and do the vote for vote shit; or do the traditional, effective whale ball licking; but there is no genuine curation going on. Anyone else here feels demotivated to use the Steemit platform?

Seemed like you had to suck up to certain whales to get up-votes, or if you were some hott chick who would show cleavage and talk about traveling. Otherwise you weren't going to make anything. Maybe some bloggers were able to get on there and grind their ass off to finally make a little bit of money.

But if some big youtuber would get on there they would be making a shit ton of steem right off the bat....it just never seemed fair to me. But it's better than facebook I guess.

As far as the price I think now is a good time to buy, its near the bottom in satoshi price.

I don't have to enter my phone number when I mine, so its not really "the new mining"
There are ways to get an anonymous account.

how?

I've been working on entering my claimed Steem and SBD for taxes on Cointracking. From what I understand, I should consider my Steem earnings like I would if it was something I had mined.

Does anyone know the difference in how Cointracking treats "Income" vs "Mined" coins?

I see Steemit now as a hub of great articles/blog, such as announcements, NEWS and confidential informations that sometimes give huge profits. This is my best pick for writing my articles, that let's me earn SBD and friends on it's warm community. Just wondering why they choose Steemit as it's name, I bet their's a story behind.

If long on Steem and so many people like Steem, why no one is giving Merit to main thread. No love?
Seems like people yet to realize how to use their sMerit.
done
but that shit is really irrelevant to me (and many others?) anyways.

I agree that steem still suffers from the played Whale PnD scheme it once was.
The Upvote mechanism should work different , to list HQ Content higher.

No idea how to achieve that but i completly agree.
