I think lots of ICOs are scam or can't get their target as the whitepapers. So join a lot of icos now is not a wisdom choice, buy there real has a little icos are reals and will the star tomorrow.

The number of ICos may get increased. Lets look at the projects they offer and the team they have to manage has to be look at. Their advertisement, projects and the amount of money they invest determines the growth in the market.
The number of successful ICO's are decreasing dramatically. Just wanna know about successful ICO's in the fourth quarter of 2017 and if anybody still believes in ICO's.
As in 2017 project teams saw an easy way to crowdfund lots of money, this trend continues in 2018. But there is a lot more projects competing for money now, and as an investor you have to be more and more carefull. Also in this kind of bear market it is quite normal to see successful icos decreasing. On the other side big projects ( as Bankera ) had no problems in getting funds.

Now in market around few thousands of coins and new coins appear every day and we need a lot of time to research and look through them to make profit, in my opinion ICO is still profitable but not like in 2016-2017, because now you need a lot more knowledge to not join scam and so on.
You look at alot of the projects out there and I can see where you would feel like its a lottery, but take the time to look at the projects I have been involved in.
