So anyway, I applied as a merit source :)
Testing strategies and pushing limits can make it a lot more interesting and maybe even profitable.
Nope, it will only expose the dark truth that gamblers try to keep under wraps. That the losses from gambling heavily outweigh the wins and the net loss from gambling is something they will take years to recover.

Only because of the fear of having to face these numbers, most gamblers do no maintain spreadsheets. If you start gambling and start the spreadsheet right away you will not be gambling for long because you will realize this early enough - which is a good thing, it will prevent addiction from happening.

So whatever you might "study" - gambling is not a university exam, you will lose.

Well that's right, they should be able to think about what will happen if they are really serious about gambling, because with the risks and impacts that are not playing it can destroy their lives. In addition, maybe there are some people who can be successful in gambling but they should not make it a motivation because in gambling luck determines our fate and what needs to be known is that we don't know when we will be lucky.
In my opinion, seeing the greater chance of loss should be a consideration, I admit myself I also want to be able to win consistently in gambling, but that is something that is very unlikely to happen. To become a professional gambler I think there are many aspects that must be considered and the main one is funding.
We all want to win consistently in gambling but we must realize the chance will not be bigger than we want. Gambling is a place to have fun and relax after you do many things in your daily life. We can not motivate ourselves to keep playing gambling without take a break because that can make us getting more losses. You can create a spreadsheet to manage your gambling activity and help you to become a pro but you must remember that becoming a pro means you need to learn and prepare many things. Not many people can do that and will just end to lose much money and the worst is they can become a heavy addicted to gambling. We must admit that we can losses more and more and that should be our consideration to control ourselves when playing gambling.

If you want to play like a pro, you need to use all insruments for a pro. You must verify your bets. Trying to understand what and where you lose or where you win.
If you want gamble in a casual way you can avoid all of these checks. But in the long term you can only lose money if you don't try to improve your chances.
My suggestion= even a simple tracker could be useful. not needed too complicated system...

Pro bettor ? how can you be a pro bettor when bookies are controlling all the sports nowadays ? Sure , in early 2000's and around 2010's you could have said that pro bettors exist because the system wasn't so rigged back then and analytics , strategies , luck etc was a real deal. Now , you can bet on your statistics and strategies and out of nowhere VAR or the rigged system will make you lose no matter what. The amount of people that are gambling world-wide right now is too damn high because per example in Romania right now , we have presidential elections and people are voting on the one who has the best ODDS on bookies...and not the one who has a real plan to make this country great. So , how can anyone trust gambling or sports right now ? it's pure entertainment and nothing else.  Embarrassed

Spreadsheets are a good way to track anything whether it be for betting or tracking expenses.
The good thing is that casino sites provide this data easily which makes it easier for us to create these spreadsheets.
But we need consistency to keep a track of this data and only then we will be able to use it for our benefit.
If we are not consistent enough then we will lose track of it and all of it will just be a waste of time and effort.

For us to have enough data to create a spreadsheet to track our gambling record, we have to be gambling alot and that won't be recommended for some set of gamblers like those that aren't yet in control of their gambling behaviours. Asking people to gamble more often can result to them getting addicted to gambling. Gambling should be used as a form of entertainment that doesn't require us to keep records of our activity if truly we're gambling for entertainment as we say.

When we start involving spreadsheets and keep tracks, we're making gambling to be more than for entertainment and now for serious purposes as we hope to start making money from it. We don't need to become a pro in gambling, all we need is to play without depending on it for making money.

It makes sense from your POV but still there are gamblers who gamble in a limit yet want to keep a track of their gambling habits.
This is not because they over gamble but because they want to monitor how well or worse they are doing in gambling.

I think even though only a few people record their gambling, or track their gambling, many people who gamble only think about how to win at that time, maybe sometimes they hallucinate by becoming a professional gambler but only a few people deepen their gambling to become a pro gambler. I myself have no intention and thoughts of becoming a professional gambler, because I think even if I am a pro at gambling, victory cannot be obtained consistently.
I do not discourage those who want to become professional in gambling, because that is the right of each, keep doing what you want but don't forget about yourself too, we have to worry about ourselves because only we are responsible for the actions we take. With those who like to record their gambling activities, I wonder if victory is more often obtained than defeat or not at all.
It is okay if they want to learn to become a pro gambler but they must know the consequences that they can get from gambling. Many people lose their money when they want to become a pro gambler but not many people can continue their lesson to become a pro. It needs many things before they can become a pro and that could be much money to practice their lesson so it is better they check on themselves if they can accept anything bad happen from gambling because that will not easy to become a pro gambler.

They must learn from other people experience in their journey to become a pro so they know that they will face much losses but no guarantee they can become a pro. That is why we must responsible with our gambling activity and not use too much money if we can not accept the losses.
Well that's right, they should be able to think about what will happen if they are really serious about gambling, because with the risks and impacts that are not playing it can destroy their lives. That’s mostly gamblers thought, gambling isn't for money making, but isn’t it exciting to push ourselves and see what we’re capable of? If you believe that some people actually make a living from sports betting, then it’s proof that it’s possible. Why not try our own approach and see if it works?

Gambling becomes even more fun when there’s a challenge involved. If we’re just here for the fun and already accept that we’ll lose in the long run, then it’s better not to do it regularly, because let’s face it, that’s a fast track to going broke. Testing strategies and pushing limits can make it a lot more interesting and maybe even profitable.

Sometimes the laziness to keep this record could be a good reason some persons would not want to keep spreadsheets. Talking about controlling sef, you don't really need records, actually what is needed the most is discipline, if you are discipline enough, you can get control over yourself without a spreadsheet as the casinos sometimes even do keep records for you automatically with which you can probably make spreadsheets off them so it's not even just about you making another away from the records the casino has got before you can be sure you are keeping records enough to track your habit and improve if need be.
If someone want to track their bet with a spreadsheet, they must have discipline to record their gambling activities to know what is the outcome today and what they need to do in other time when they playing gambling. Without having discipline, they will not be able to have the record about their gambling activities because they will not follow their rules. If they thinks that they can controls themselves in gambling, they don't have to track their gambling activity by recording in a spreadsheet because they can limits their money and time and always trying to reduce their losses not to becomes big.

The laziness can happen to us after we don't see a good outcome from gambling and may decide to stop recording our gambling activity. Only those who really want to control themselves in gambling will still record what they do in gambling even though they know if that is hard to do. But everything will come back to each people whether they want to record their gambling activity or don't want to do that because they think they can still handle themselves with right. That needs more effort to keep recording their gambling activity from time to time so they can see how good the result that they can get from gambling.

It's usually like this you know when gambling as a career or as an occupation one can easily monitor their entry and every single amount they spending on gambling site, and of course as a pro you wouldn't want keep losing therefore you must deversed a means to keep you winning, and like I know it's not always good keep accumulating much games to gamble. As pro narrowing and monitoring losing is essential because when you gamble there should be an easy way to secure winning at least twice in weeks or before the months runs out, and most times those who don't gamble regularly finds it that difficulty to keep monitoring their activities because they felt that they aren't on lost.

they are not going to allow profitable gamblers to stay on their website for very long and have a long list of tricks they can use to steer you away if you are profitable.

This mean that those pages/sites will track you and if you reach some % of winnings then they are going to ban you?

If you want any to keep it to a bit of fun, maybe a spreadsheet will suck out some of the energy.

Well this is true for fun it should be keep simple without any tracker.
But that is only valid if you have some self-control on how much you gamble.

But remember: "You can't manage what you can't measure" this is really util if you want to:
-Setting and sticking to some limits
-Understanding yout betting patterns

Why This Matters
Without measurement, gamblers might only rely on gut feeling or selective memory (e.g., overestimating wins or ignoring losses). Keeping clear records transforms gambling from a purely emotional activity into a measurable one, enabling better decisions and reducing the likelihood of financial harm. (Yes this kill the fun but at least it may keep your financial health) In any case you always can enjoy the matches

This might be new for some who just gamble without a real bankroll, but for those who are serious about sports betting, consider this: data is crucial for tracking your journey. According to a site I found that also shows a good format for spreadsheet tracking, here are the benefits of keeping tabs on your bets.

https://www.vaultsportshq.com/post/how-to-track-your-sports-bets
Quote
What are the benefits of tracking your bets?

1. You can find what bet types you excel at.  By tracking your bets, and grouping the data by bet type (spreads, totals, moneylines, props, parlays, teasers) you can quickly find out what types profit you the most, and which ones cause you to lose your bankroll to the books.

2. Learn what leagues you profit from the most. This is a big one, and although you probably have a good idea of what leagues you're best at, grouping your bet data by league can greatly improve your chances of figuring out exactly what is causing those wins on your NFL bets, and causing those big losses for NHL bets, for example.

3. Spot any favoritism or biases you have.  I spoke with a semi-pro bettor named William after the 2020-21 NBA season. Will told me that after the season, he broke all his tracked bet data down by team and compared it to the research he had done before he placed each bet. He realized that there were at least 15 times he lost a bet where his research had pointed him to bet on one team, but his favoritism caused him to bet on the opposite team!  Crazy right?  Think of all the biases that could be keeping you from making the right decisions.

4. The ability to follow your money.  By this I mean knowing where your money is going, where you are putting the most in, where you are losing the most, and what areas you are profiting the most

So, sports bettors, has it ever crossed your mind to keep a spreadsheet?

I have a feeling that most people who would start tracking their betting would quickly discover that their betting trend is negative and they end up losing quite a lot of money. However deep down most people placing casual bets will already know this is the case but the thrill of the bet is a happy enough trade off. If you consider that most gambling companies are making large profits every year, they are not going to allow profitable gamblers to stay on their website for very long and have a long list of tricks they can use to steer you away if you are profitable. If you want any to keep it to a bit of fun, maybe a spreadsheet will suck out some of the energy.

So, sports bettors, has it ever crossed your mind to keep a spreadsheet?

Very interesting, but it seems that what you share is usually done by serious gamblers to make a profit in every bet. maybe this is a good idea for gamblers to try it to be better in every bet, I mean like the points you convey. I understand the essence of this post very well, I also read the link you shared carefully. it sounds quite interesting, especially as it provides a picture of safer betting. well, because I have never tried it, maybe someone has applied a method like this. the question is, how effective is an idea like this. as explained in the article you shared, tracking or doing things like this seems very boring. btw, I only bet on football bets, and not all matches are included in the bets I make. it doesn't mean I'm not serious about doing it, but I have my own notes even though it's only in the form of understanding and knowledge. I do football betting sessions carefully, even though it doesn't guarantee victory. it seems like something similar if I also do ideas like the article you shared, even though it's interesting to try.

I am terrible at Fantasy Football!!!
Spreadsheets like this are very helpful for those who want to track how their betting activities are and see various data that is very good for future decision making. But for a bettor who only bets on a few occasions, maybe using a spreadsheet is a bit excessive and quite troublesome, because they don't need data like that, what is needed is how they can track the money they spend whether it comes back to them in more amounts than they spend or not at all. But for someone aiming to bet seriously or become a pro, a spreadsheet like this is invaluable and it is needed by them.
Spreadsheets like that can still be useful for the average gambler, as even if we have no hope of becoming a pro, we would like to improve our skills and lose less money overall, and the only way to realistically achieve this is by keeping track of your bets in the most detailed way possible, and a spreadsheet or some other specialized software is a good way to do this, still there is not a lot of gamblers that will have the patience to do this, even when they know this is a good move for them to make.

data history is very important but must also be professional to be able to control yourself, history really helps us to know the limits of betting and not get carried away by ambition. because every data loss we must be able to improve from yesterday's loss, but the world of gambling is not always far from the fate of defeat is different from victory. experience is the best teacher for us to apply

You don’t need to be a pro to create a spreadsheet or control your emotions. Everyone starts as a newbie, and those so-called pros? They just learned over time and worked on themselves to become profitable. If they could do it, so can we. That’s the mindset we need, always remember, there’s no shortcut to success. In sports betting, if you believe it’s possible, you’re already halfway there.
there are no professional gamblers and I don't think there are any. betting does not leave a balance of reduced/minus assets, it has become extraordinary for me to, gamblers will find their own way because of their own consequences, not from other people. no matter how wise everything is, it's up to each of us. gamblers are mostly stubborn, advisors find it difficult to enter their world

How would be your reaction when you saw on your spreadsheet how much you have lost in total to other bettors, by the way? Did you feel the need to continue to bet in order to recover your money or did you recognize it was a bad idea to give much importance to the total of losses and you had to focus on the total money wagered instead?

It seems like you have a different perspective, and maybe a spreadsheet doesn’t appeal to you, but trust me, it’s essential for tracking your sports betting performance, that means no skipping: every win and loss needs to be recorded, and even if you’re on a losing streak, that’s not a signal to quit as long as you’ve still got funds in your bankroll. After all, you will never know if you succeed if you'll not consider what you do as a long term betting.

data is gold
that's definitely true
by the short time I was doing sports betting I usually tracked everything and studied my wins, big wins, losses and big losses so I could learn with my past mistakes and improve my game

definitely helps

That is the double edged sword there is when comes to using spreadsheet to track one losses and wins in casinos and bookies, since gamblers and bettors tend to lose more in the long term, it is likely we all are in the red for a very long time before we start to actually earn money form betting, being in red numbers only encourages reckless behavior from bettors in the pursue of money.

yes, that's true
and for the old school folks they can use notebooks but these will be much worse for formulas, even a simple thing like =SUM() saves up a lot of work

make it a habit, this is the way for consistency
like you probably brush your teeth everyday no matter what happens, this is a basic thing

make tracking and not sabotaging yourself a basic thing

I personally think it's a waste of time noting it down in a physical notebook. Spreadsheets are much efficient and convenient.
With just a few clicks we can get all the list of bets we placed and the track them quickly which in case of physical notebook might take hours to do the same work.
Even the old school folks will be used to spreadsheet by the date, after all, it has been there since their era anyway.
