Yeah, no one is safe from the virus, even if you are vaccinated twice, it's just a prevention but not 100% guaranteed. So it's a risk for this athlete to come at the Olympics, and I would say it's a dilemma, you train hard for this once in a lifetime event, to participate against the best. On the other hand, you are risking your life as well if you contacted the virus. So it's there choice to skip and wait for the next 4 years. Very difficult for athletes who might not make it to the next Olympics because of age.

For many of the athletes from developing nations such as India and Nigeria, the protocol means that they will qualify for the Pfizer vaccine which is otherwise not available in their countries. And ironically, this means that they have a better chance of survival, if they participate in the Olympics. For those athletes from the richer nations, I assume almost all of them are already vaccinated. Now if you ask me whether there are chances of contracting CoVID 19 despite the vaccination, then it is true that there is a small chance. But at this point, it is too small to be taken seriously.

Almost all sports could be dangerous and lead to the death of the participant. There are some risks when you practice sports, and the coronavirus disease will only be another one for the athletes. The contestant who doesn't want to run this risk can simply give up and doesn't travel to Japan.
If they withdraw from the Olympics it would be disastrous for their career as they were fully preparing to become the best athlete and perform in the grandest stage which could change their life forever and the pandemic has already created a cloud of doubts for many athletes and some turned professional knowing the uncertainty. All of the athletes will be vaccinated and hence they will be safe and there will be millions watching around the globe.
Unfortunately vaccines don't protect from the coronavirus everytime for every people, and even if you get vaccinated you still can get the covid19. So even vaccinated athletes will take the risk of getting severely ill and even killed by the pandemic while participating.

It will be a strange Olympics and I do think that we might see some more surprises than usual. Some athletes really thrive on support of the public and when this falls away, it will be totally different.
Everything is unusual for the past two years, even though the sporting events have resumed there are no audience allowed in the stadium and the most irritating part is the fake voices they produce in the name of replicating the old scenario. The Olympics is no exception and Japan never imagined that they would be spending billions more than they anticipated as the delay will cost them huge amount of money and we might see a Olympics without audience.

japan really lost on this one. but they decided to continue this event despite of the situation. should always be ready in terms of medical response as they cant lose an athlete owed to covid. that would be a disaster. as the audience is not the same, most of these games will be competing in silent mode.
but bookies will still be earning from this event as they can easily open events for betting.

Tens of thousands of athletes and other personal will be traveling to Japan. Since Pfizer vaccine has an efficacy of 95%, we can expect upto a thousands athletes to test positive for the virus in case the pandemic spreads inside the bio-bubble. But since Japanese organizers are quite efficient in maintaining the bubble, I don't think that there is much of a chance of that happening. The event has to go ahead. We can't shut down the entire planet for years, just because of some virus.

If there will be outbreak midway, they can't do anything but postpone. It is hard to contain the virus even if those athletes and other personnel got their covid shot because someone can get infected again even if you have the shot. This Olympic will be one in history as the audience will be very limited so the interest may not be that much as compared to previous Olympics. Maybe, let us just be contented with online betting and online watching.

The risk will always be there, but if they use the Pfizer vaccine and adhere to strict protocols, then the chances of an outbreak is going to be very low. The Japanese are very professional when it comes to the conduct of major events and I am sure that the safety protocols will be strictly followed. At this point, I have reasons to believe that the Olympic Games will proceed as planned, without any major issue. Also, it has been postponed once (from 2020 to 2021), and I don't want that to happen again.

The chances of an outbreak occurring among the athletes is very low, because the Pfizer vaccine claims to have an efficacy of 95%. On top of that, the athletes will be placed inside a bio-bubble, and the chances of them coming in to contact with some COVID 19 positive person will be very low. But they need to take all the precautions and need to make sure that all the athletes receive two doses of the vaccine on time. Any mistake here will prove very costly at a later stage.

John Coates of International Olympic Committee (IOC) made clear yesterday that the Olympics would not be postponed again and will go ahead as planned from July 2021 onwards. The Japanese PM (Yoshihide Suga) has also taken the hosting of the Olympics as a prestige issue and want no further postponements. I just hope that this time the Olympics will not suffer the same fate as that of the IPL, which had to be suspended mid-way.

-snip- I only watch a few games which are Basketball, boxing, and swimming. what about you guys? I'm sure you are only interested in some of the games.
Yes, you're right only watch a few games, and this is not only a matter of like or dislike the games but also need to spend much time to watch lot of games.
I am interested in football, tennis, athletics and swimming and most importantly it will be watched if there is television channel broadcasting the match, and mostly only popular games that will be broadcasted.

Number of new infections are rising in Japan, which rules out the presence of spectators during the Games. On average, there are some 4000-5000 new cases per day, with the daily death toll being around 50. On top of that, at least when compared to the other countries, the vaccination program is proceeding at snail's pace in Japan. Only around 2% of the population has received at least one dose of the vaccine, which is one of the lowest rates in the world.

Most likely the preview of the games is like what we have seen in the recent international games where spectators are only a few. This is not a problem at all, as long as they will not postpone this Olympic since it was already delayed a year ago. This is good but for me, I only watch a few games which are Basketball, boxing, and swimming. what about you guys? I'm sure you are only interested in some of the games.
I hope they could carry on the event even if they do not allow audience even though it might be a huge loss of revenue for Japan under these circumstances there is no other option. My favorite are many including track and field, Football, Tennis, Boxing and then there are sports i only watch during the Olympics especially beach volleyball, swimming and synchronized swimming.

the most recent article says that the 2021 Tokyo Olympic wouldn't allow an international spectator and as for whether the domestic audience will be allowed to attend or not, has not been made at the moment. I'd assume with proper/strict health protocols they would let a limited vaccinated local audience to attend to cheer and support the athletes.
The ground reality is not promising either as the number of infections are increasing on a daily basis as per the article you posted and it is good to hear that the vaccine companies are donating the vaccines for the athletes who are participating in the Olympics and the decision about International spectators are taken and now they are deciding whether local spectators are allowed but by the way things are building, the surge of patients in Japan i think it will be the first Olympics without or limited audience.

That is a good news that all the athletes will be vaccinated but any updates about allowing audience if they are vaccinated. In the history of Olympics we have games moved due to wars but we have never witnessed an Olympics without audience and there is a possibility that this will be the first Olympics without audience, hopefully we will have some updates regarding this as well.
