On the second day of games, we have the United States in third place, Japan next and China in first place with the most medals.

The order is based on the gold medals.

It's true that the USA got a lot of medals.  I meant to say that China ranks high.  It is usually one of the top 3 countries.  If we leave the country's regime aside, it draws a successful graph as it stands.  But yes, if they gain the status of a more democratic country, there is no doubt that they will be more successful.

In the match that just ended, the Turkish women's volleyball team defeated China 3-0. China was a strong contender for the gold medal in women's volleyball. I'm very happy Smiley

I have a feeling that China is just sliding down slowly in terms of sports capabilities. When they topped the medals table in 2008, everyone was saying that China will dominate the Olympic games for many decades to come. That simply didn't happened and in 2012 they slipped to the 2nd place. And in 2016, they ended up at the 3rd spot (behind Great Britain). I guess this has something to do with the reducing number of young people in China. As a result of the one-child policy, most of the population is now middle-aged or elderly.

It's going to be a good Olympics for China again. With their overpopulation and correct sports activities, they always take first place in the Olympics. My country -Turkey- has not received a medal yet. Our athletes placed 4th in several sports branches. I hope that we will overcome this misfortune and get a medal in the wrestling competitions.

Imagine how many more people they’d have if they didn’t lock so many up in prison camps for communist type reasons. Yeah I’m not a fan of that country, obviously. Also, the US tends to win the most medals. Here’s last Olympic results from 2016

No point to list the games played today, they are so many that they will look like a spam.

The full schedule can be found here, don't know if it is possible to change the time zone to Local.

https://olympics.com/tokyo-2020/olympic-games/en/results/all-sports/olympic-schedule-and-results-date=2021-07-24.htm

Thanks for this information. Do you also have a link where we can watch all these matches live. The tv channels in my country only show a few sports and i could not find the sports which i am more interested in like football and hockey. Any link where all these sports can be watched live ?

Discovery Plus is a good service and allows you to practically see the games.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Discovery%2B

Of course it's a paid service, but it can be worth paying for a month.
If your country does not have the service, you can try using a VPN. Once registered, and installed app via apk, VPN may no longer be needed.

A lot of Medals are already on the 1st day.

The medal count of day 1 is the following, Chìna already leading but the USA will come strongly later...

Track and Field will start only from 30th and that is the section which will be completely dominated by the United States. Another sport which is likely to be dominated by the US is swimming, and it starts today. US is dominant in gymnastics as well, and the medal events start from tomorrow. All that said, it can't be denied that China has got a very good start to the Games this time. They are having 3 golds, compared to 2 for Japan and 1 each for the United States and Australia. US is the leader in terms of number of medals (6, compared to 5 for China).

I just got done watching some Simone Biles highlights and HOLY SHIT, that woman is freaking unbelievable.  To be honest this was my first time watching her period. Not sure how or why I didn't back in 2016.  I can't wait to see her go out and dominate the world once again.  I can now see what she is considered the GOAT/Greatest of All Time.  Just watching her makes my old man back hurt  Cheesy

Not surprising from China.

Agree, they have all the advantage, sports science and of course their population.

I expect a lot more medals coming from the US & Australia though, given that they are a bit more versatile when it comes to other sports. But in terms of the medal count I do think that it's a lock for China.

Australia could get a lot of medals in swimming, they have historically a lot of gold hauls in that sports. And then US on the athletics, mens and womens basketball team are also expecting to produce golds for them.

In terms of COVID cases, I think that there is virtually no way that they suspend play now. Tokyo has invested way too much time and money for this to keep dragging on - it's now or never.

There's no turning back now, the games have started, billions already invested in this Olympics.

The competition have begun. Then onwards China and USA alternately come to the first position and drop back and once again this changes. This will happen till the end. In between countries like Australia could make some changes when the gold medal count increases. This is for a short term.

Yes, the investment is huge and they might've got a big expectation out of the Olympics in terms of revenue. Now this has got destructed out of covid-19. Now the major motive will be to complete the games with perfect protection and take credit for it.

I missed the opening ceremony and i only knew about the start of the Olympics when i saw odds in the sports book. China is nurturing athletes to win medals and hopefully we will not hear about any secret program by the government where they could intake anything to win the medal like the Russians did  Cheesy. I need to check out the entire schedule but i have no idea about any huge favorites to place a bet.

Indeed. The open ceremony is simply amazing! The peace messages that are being send in Olympics show us that we're all the same, no matter the country or continent.

I'm also thinking how the athletes are feeling right now as they work so hard for 4 years to show to the world what they got and now ...they don't have any fans in the arenas to show what they got.

The message of Olympics : Peace and unity will save the world!  Kiss

I read in the news that at the Olympic Games, Covid-19 was found on the team of Czech Republic.  Now, apparently the whole team will be removed from the competition.
do you mean all their athlete that will compete in the Tokyo Olympics won't be able to compete? or just on certain sports? reading around I only read that their 4 of their athletes(1 from cyclist, 2 from beach volleyball, and 1 on table tennis) tested positive from the virus.

would you mind sharing the article?

I am currently watching the opening ceremony and I must say it is a little underwhelming. support from the audience from different countries really does have an uplifting effect on these kinds of events.

I can't watch the Olympics ...and I'm kinda upset. Why ? Because I work on night shifts and my broadcast is in plain morning when I'm already sleeping but I'm watching some highlights and stuff as soon as I wake up but it's not the same.  Like someone said above my comment, Olympics are really made to be seen live on TV or live from the arenas.

You have to watch sports events live. Else, the excitement won't be there. What is the point in watching a game, if you already know who is the winner? At least this is the case for me. I hardly ever watch recorded matches (although sometimes I go for 5-10 minutes highlights). Being a resident of India, the timing can't get anymore perfect for me. Most of the disciplines start at around 6am and go on until 8 pm (Indian time). And since I am working from home, I can watch whatever event I like, live on TV.
I would have to disagree, maybe it could be a bit different in Olympics, watching it live might be a lot more fun, I mean 100 meter dash is such a quick thing that you really should watch it live if you can because it won't even take up too much of your time, just open it on one of your tabs on browser and deal with other stuff, even work meanwhile waiting for it to start and when it is about to start go check it, and in 10 seconds it is over and you go do whatever you were about to, they usually take such a quick time, even the long 5000 meters do not take too much of your time.

However other sports are not like that, maybe it is because I am just way too connected with internet that I want everything very fast but recently I have stopped watching games live unless they really end up being very important, sure I do watch NBA finals for example (full game but not live, I never check the score neither so it is feeling like live but since it is at 4 am I can't watch live) but watching a boring regular season game? No way, I will just check highlights and that is more than enough for me.
