orama, can you find out why I was charged $205 to have 3 modules shipped to the Eastern US? Then I was charged $68 to have one shipped. I only paid $100 in shipping for my entire Saturn. Was it in their intention to make extra money by inflating the shipping charges?

I had a Jupiter shipped from Sweden from an individual, was over $500 FedEx, I wonder if KNC is eating part of the Jupiter shipping charges?
Fedex is a genuine rip-off, and they can't get the packages here without calling... I almost always get the infamous "Held for pickup" E-mail from them, and a 50 mile RT ensues...they suck.  IMHO

UPS can get a package here from Sweden within 48 hours, but FedEx cant get one here to Hawaii from California within 4 days even though I paid for "overnight"....and they are closed on Saturday & Sunday here as well....  Totally substandard & overpriced.

We've been discussing that for the last 10 pages.
I will call tomorrow to find out.

Keep in mind KNC used a custom bar to attach the I30/A30 heatsink to the pcb.  The bar has holes in the right place to attach to that heatsink, they aren't using the "standard" bracket which comes with the heatsink.  Using a different heatsink (or waterblock) would either need mounting holes in the exact same spots (unlikely) or someone making a "custom mounting bracket".  It would have been easier if KNC used the standard AMD or Intel mounting holes, then any compatible waterblock by any vendor would fit.

That's child's play..  us Jupiter owners have the task of creating our own mounting platform..  Perhaps I drill a few holes in some nice slaterock from the yard for some nice looking lunar landing miners??

Either that or put the 3D printer to use for something truly abstract

Mount them on top of the case and submit photos.

Ittsa gonna look so cool!

Spaceship time!
Thats actually a good idea...turn the case top upside down... you could easily match the holes...etc...  and get it close enough to plug in the data ribbon...

Apollo 13 will run on 7 of 8 if I keep the bedroom door closed to keep the temperature in the tropical range, but goes to six if I leave it open too long.

Would be interesting to see what the chips do with water cooling.  The nice thing about water is it has a high heat capacity so it takes a lot of heating or cooling to change the temp more than a degree.  Some variable speed fans on a radiator and you might be able to keep the chip "warm" without needing to keep the ambient temp warm.  Certainly would be more wife/girlfriend friendly than devoting one room to tropical temps.

I asked about the feasibility of using liquid cooling a few pages ago and just about got ran out of town for being an idiot.  Apparently this is a dumb idea for some reason.   Huh

It is kinda sad.  The miner sub forums at one time were a place to experiment, today it if you deleted every post which deals with return on investment it would be a ghost town.  I wouldn't do anything today.  The "daily value" of a new rig is still too high.  The downtime and potential for problems are more expensive when the revenue rate is this high.  In time difficulty will go up and what a rig makes per day will go down and then it will make more sense to experiment again (you have less to lose).

Yeah, I'm going to have to figure out how to mount the H60 on the cards, I'll update with photos as I progress (or at least attempt to progress)

The 24/7 model has grey-colored fan blades, where the other one has white.

I believe the coolers that came in my Saturn have the white-style fans.

Oh no, color clash!  What will I do?   Cry

Lol.

Oh no, the ones used by knc are not designed for 24/7 use!

What will we do?  Apart from have significant facts obscured by retards shills fools god knows who, for god knows what reasons?

Could this explain the never-ending fluctuations on these rigs that defy logic regarding cooling(or heating)

Not lol, at all!

And see how many people expressed concerns of the over inflated shipping charges. Paying more to ship 3 boards, than to ship a whole Jupiter. Yeah makes perfect sense.

The proof is in the pudding.  The sold out in what an hour?  Now if there were still 190 of 200 unsold and tons of people complaining saying they won't place an order until the shipping is fixed you might have a point.  Not saying it is the best strategy but it worked (and honestly it will probably work again and again and again and ... ok now I am just wasting bytes).
They sold out in about 11 minutes tops.
I could not make it that fast, saw last 3 modules disappear in front of my own eyes

I'm happy since "I got mine!"™

But it's just crossed my mind now how incredibly short-sighted it was for KNC not to have modules in stock and put them up for sale immediately after the last October order went out the door.

I played it safe and pre-ordered a Mercury because I wasn't 100% convinced that this wasn't just an elaborate scam, lol.  And $2000 was all that I was willing to risk.  But the minute they started shipping, I began salivating and waiting for modules to go on sale.  I bet there were a lot of other people who did the same as me.

And isn't a major reason for selling the Jupiter (and Mercury) is that they are expandable as well as being more affordable for the casual miner?!

Most likely I would have ordered 3 modules (instead of the 2 that I ordered today) for my Mercury if I could have had a couple more weeks of hashing time.  In fact, while I was waiting for KNC modules to go on sale, I bought 6 more Bitfury H boards instead because I had some Bitcoins burning a hole in my pocket.

* Please, no lectures on ROI. I don't care what "you" think. *   Kiss

So this was a HUGE missed opportunity for KNC to make their customers happy and add to their bottom line.

Specifically, I was looking at the now discontinued H80... had one left over from a PC build.  And the warning I received about using anything other than Arctic Cooling i30 was that it might not fit with their custom bracket.  And since I ordered two AC i30's already, I guess I'm not really concerned about liquid cooling now.

Sheesh -- after all that effort.  Angry

Maybe someone else can give it a try.

It's of value though -- now I know I can get this for our mapping and graphics systems. The info will be useful. Grin

Cheers!

I do appreciate the effort!  But I had to act quick since the Arctic Cooling i30's were selling out immediately after the module sale.  In fact, I had to order a slightly different model than the one KNC linked to.

I hope this one works! ARCTIC Freezer i30 Extreme CPU Cooler - Intel, 320W Ultimate Cooling Power, for 24/7 Operation

That's what I bought. It said there were four left -- then I bought mine and there were two.

I believe that is the units that are already in my Saturn.

So maybe we will both be cryin' in our soup come delivery day...  Cry

The only difference I can tell is that this one is designated for "continuous operation".  Which I think means that it has a more durable fan.
