I would agree with you about this "boring match" argument. Some of the most boring matches that I have watched involved two test playing nations. On the other hand, some of the most exciting matches involved one associate nation playing against one of the test playing nations. The defeat of West Indies during the 1996 World Cup to Kenya is still fresh in my mind. I was a small kid back then, and I was amazed by the Kenyan performance.

That said, Olympics doesn't allow too many automatic qualification slots. At the most, they may allow direct entry for 4 teams. That means that the remaining test nations need to play qualifiers and I don't think that the ICC will agree to this.

Why you 20 cricket teams should participate in Olympics ? Since we have only 8-9 regular playing nations, including 20 teams would mean a lot of boring matches. It would be better if they have a pre-Olympics qualifier and only the top 8 teams qualify for Olympics, if ever the cricket is included in the WC.

Yes 20 teams would just be too much because top 8 teams would be the best to get some good cricket. Though 20 teams can participate in the pre qualifier and then bring down to 6-8 teams or so depends upon the allocation of time and place of cricket in Olympics. This would happen sooner or later in coming years and we will just have to wait and watch for this event.

A T20 match takes around 3 hours to complete. Just slightly longer than a football match and therefore I don't think that duration is an issue here. We can have 4 groups of 4 teams each for a total of 16 teams. Each team will play 3 matches during the group phase, with the top ranking team proceeding to the semi-finals. So each team plays a maximum of 5 matches. Entire tournament can be completed in 8-10 days.

official time duration is 3 hours but it takes approx 4 hours to finish one game completely.

How about they make this knockout tournament even from start(Group matches) ? If you lost then you are out.

If the ICC wants to accommodate cricket then they can and for the development of cricket this is the best option they have and yet they have not shown much interest,

Its not that ICC don't want this. But some cricket board has their eyes on short-term benefits, call it short sighted attitude. (ECB-BCCI)

ECB - Earlier they were not in favor of this move because according to them Olympics and their county season schedule always clash. ICC told ECB to %$#@ off and told them to deal with it as Olympic comes after 4 years and only for 2 weeks or so...

BCCI - They are major roadblock atm and International Olympic Council (IOC) want all major countries especially India at any cost otherwise they are not interested in the cricket. BCCI has couple of serious concerns. ICC and BCCI both are working on it.

NADA (National Anti Doping Agency) -Indian cricketers/BCCI and Indian Doping agency had some misunderstanding (They wanted to control every cricketer all the time) and NADA record is not good but things are working fine atm as both bodies are working together on trial basis.
IOC (Indian Olympic Commission) -BCCI don't want to lose autonomy to them, Which seems real concern as BCCI did all the hard work and made billion dollar product from scratch. And IOC sucks anyway, too much politics with shitty subcontinent bureaucracy. Who knows if in future they introduce quota/reservation in cricket too?

As far as i know football in the Olympic is not big thing per se because majority of the players are required to be under 23 age. if this happens with cricket then its not real deal IMO. Schedule and dividing groups are open to discussion, they are more than capable of handling this issue so its not a big deal.

I just thought that I would update you guys on the situation here in Australia with our local sports. Its looking like the AFL and NRL will start up soon which is a good sign for the T20 world cup as the AFL have said that they are happy to push their grand final back if they need to. If all goes to plan then we could see the T20 world cup played in October. We are seeing fewer cases here each week but as I have said, winter is just one month away and we could see this change very quickly.

24 is really difficult but 16 is realistic because now we have few teams those can give tough time in this format so this is really good idea and for Olympics T-10 is also really good because we already enjoying this format and this can give really big boost in this Olympics as well if the want to do something.

Practically, I doubt 24 teams in one T20 WC will be added. There are some boards who will oppose this move by ICC as you mentioned "economic disaster".

T10 for Olympics is a good idea and can be easily done.
