Small updates on schedule presented by BCCI if everything calms down, TDLR for Prominent schedule

~snip~

What if nothing calms down by 1st May? Will we see the complete call-off of the IPL this year?

Yeah, it should be as its not worth it if situation turns out to be toxic. No one can afford to put lives at risk just for sports. Even -Empty stadium scenario- seems bad option in that case.

This is really sucking because now latest update all sporting events for next two months are going to be cancelled and I am feeling we will live in stone age for this period as no sports nothing good and attractive in life for this period lock down is another worst thing happening.
we are not getting the seriousness of this spread, the whole world is going lockdown then who the hell will care about the sport events because still we are seeing the sports from humans who are same as other fellow humans. Not only sports the holy places of every religion is going locked down, entertainment places and the list keeps on enxtending everyday.

Recent deadline (15th April) is because of Gov as they already cancelled all the foreign visas till next month 15th. If situation improves after one month (We have to wait and watch) then Indian gov might ease the visa process including other formalities and BCCI can think of running Short version of IPL for remaining days as this year schedule is already jam-packed.
The situation will get worse in the coming months as the virus is spreading rapidly and the only solution will be to push the event back or cancel it altogether and there are talks about even the Olympics will be pushed to next year and that will be the case with every major tournaments. But with the case of IPL the team owners will push for the tournament and we will see how the BCCI will decide how to rescue them from avoiding a huge financial loss.

Cancellation is last option, but if things go south then BCCI should pull their pants up and bite the bullet of revenue loss by cancelling the whole tournament. Financially or as cricket fan it sucks but in the end tough times require tough call as lives are more important.

Well I think cancelling or not is upto the organizers but I don't feel like that there is actually a need to make a quick decision and cancel the season already. China has started recovering  from this but still there are cases. In India no.s are pretty much low and it's impressive how we are dealing and taking precaution against this virus. I think situation is not worse here and with such progress I would say just watch how the situation here goes on rather than cancelling.
BCCI along with the All share holders (Franchise +State Gov+ Broadcaster) keeping their all options open.

Do you think the IPL  will be held on the COVID-19 crisis??
BCCI postponed IPL until April 15 as per the government guidance but most likely it won't takes place because it just a one month time period still other part of world got mostly affected so overseas players will be hard time while getting into the country so its like bye-bye for IPL 2020.

RCB fans need to wait one more year to see their team on qualifiers. Smiley

The official news is that IPL is postponed till 15th of April. As long as we don't hear officially about the cancellation of tournament, there is still a hope.
There is still one month in April 15, and i think there could be some better situations by that time. I am sure no one will want IPL to be missed this year. It will be a big disappointment if it is really canceled for 2020.

The chances of IPL getting cancelled is pretty much high. I was just reading an article related to IPL and if it gets cancelled, how much revenue BCCI will lose and was suprised by the amount . Below is the source.

There is a high chance that IPL will get cancelled because India is entering the third week of this virus outbreak and generally this is the week when the numbers spike up. Globally every country is suffering from this damm virus, so international players will not take a risk now.

Here is a youtube video which explains the virus pattern and why third week is so important?

It should be. Otherwise, chance of Corona to be spread nation wide will be high. On the other hand, if no visitors is there, this season will lose heavy loss. I think it will be postponed for sure.
Here in my country, all the school, college and universities have been closed till April 2nd.

The death of COVID-19 has almost reached nearly 7k . You guys are still bothered whether the tournament will be held or not? The only hope that we should have now is that it doesn't spread too much and cause a major problem to lives of people . The sports can be played in the coming years , so chill if the IPL or any other sporting event is not conducted this year.

Sourav Ganguly (Precedent of BCCI) told that "safety is most important for the player" he said that they postponed the domestic matches to handle the current situations.

It shouldn't be held but you never know about BCCI . If they hold the matches it will problematic as there can be no protests too( on streets).

One thing we may have to understand here that before devising the IPL matches the safety would eb considered as a top priority of players and all those coaching staff etc who is directly or indirectly involved during such big leagues. So considering the things have started to rise in Asian regions it is quite possible that it may not even be delayed overall it could get cancelled because hosting in another country could only be possible where their is 100% surety that their is no COVID cases which is not the scene unless in between we have anti dot available and the pandemic suddenly sops then only we could see some light.

I don't think that the IPL will be played before the COVID 19 epidemic is contained. So there is no question of hosting it in another country, where there is a risk of spreading the disease. The BCCI has a limited time window available with them. They need at least 1.5 months to complete the tournament, which means that it can start the latest by mid-April. After that, the duration may be curtailed due to monsoon.

I am a bit worried about the new schedule of the IPL. Mid-April to May looks fine, but if it gets delayed any further, then we'll be in trouble. Because the monsoon starts by the last week of May in South India (Chennai, Bangalore.etc). There is a very good chance that the tournament will get delayed further. And if that happens, the BCCI will be forced to shift it to UAE or South Africa, as it is not possible to conduct the IPL during monsoon season.

BTW, I was told that there have been a lot of sudden interest coming from the gamblers in the Namibian franchise T20 tournament (Richelieu Franchise T20). Apart from the Pakistan Super League, it is the only cricket tournament ongoing now, and as a result a lot of the cricket gamblers are making their bets on these matches. The Namibian officials are really surprised, as the tournament was virtually unknown outside the country until a few days back.

I was just updating the news that " All event got suspend, except PSL" nothing else. Grin but yeah agree on PSL need some exposure.

When you see that all the sports world wide are getting suspended, PSL is lucky to survive and the matches are still in progress.
Since now only few matches are left, i am hopeful that this tournament will be completed successfully, although with empty stadiums. Something is better than nothing.  Wink
