Okay Fellas, Empty stadium for IPL, coming through....

Now its official that there will be no spectators in the stadium for any games due to COVID-19 threats. it includes SA vs IND series and IPL too.

IPL, rest of India-SA series could be played without spectators
Quote
In the backdrop of COVID-19 threat, India's sports ministry has issued an advisory to all the National Sports Federations, including the Board of Control for Cricket in India, to "ensure that no public gathering takes place in any sporting event" in the country.

The advisory further stated that if the sporting event cannot be avoided, it should be held without the spectators. This could mean that the next two ODIs between India and South Africa (scheduled in Lucknow and Kolkata) and the upcoming season of the Indian Premier League, in part or full, could take place in front of empty stands.

"You are advised to adhere to the advisories issued by the Ministry of Health & Family Welfare and ensure that no public gathering takes place in any sporting event," the Government of India release read. "In the event the sporting event cannot be avoided, the same could be done without allowing gathering of people, including spectators."

New updates on IPL 2020

BCCI had a meeting today on IPL season and coronavirus implications and despite giving green light from sport ministry " Matches in Empty Stadium" BCCI suspended the tournament until April 15. They had a option of going with their business in Empty Stadiums.

IPL 2020 suspended until April 15 due to coronavirus concerns

Quote
"The BCCI is concerned and sensitive about all its stakeholders, and public health in general, and it is taking all necessary steps to ensure that, all people related to IPL including fans have a safe cricketing experience," a BCCI media release signed by board secretary Jay Shah stated.

"The BCCI will work closely with the Government of India along with the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and all other relevant Central and State Government departments in this regard."

Quote
The advisory further stated that if the conduct of the sporting event couldn't be avoided, it should be held behind closed doors, without the spectators. The Ministry of External Affairs went a step further, recommending to the BCCI not to go ahead with the tournament.

^Great news! Instead of planning to stop play, just limit it to TV broadcasting. The players would definitely feel the emptiness of the stadiums where nobody will be present to cheer but nevertheless, the show must go on.

Where is the thread for IPL discussion?

This is going to be a one of its kind experience for everyone including audience watching from Tv where they just see the players only and more for the players as no one to cheer them up which actually plays an important role to motivate team or players with the chants people do . Things may be different this time and also depends if some big players want to skip considering its effects and want to be safeguarded .

TV revenues account for the lion's share of IPL revenues. But for the franchises, the gate collection also represents a large chunk of their revenues. If you take out the gate collection, then I am afraid that many of the IPL franchises will be having the balance sheet in deep red. A better idea would be to postpone the tournament by a couple of months. Or the BCCI can compensate the franchises for any loss from the lack of gate collection.

BTW, the official IPL thread is here:

There is big chances that IPL can be cancel or postpone because of Corona Virus threat.

Gov and BCCI might have more clear position in this matter with in next week. So far BCCI following their usual routine of IPL preparation etc. Cancellation of complete tournament seems tough but i wouldn't be surprise if all matches are held in Empty stadium, better safe than sorry.
We were discussing this in another thread also, which is dedicated for IPL.

That is a good news for IPL lovers , I knew they will not postpone the tournament. They did the right thing, so for the first time we will watch cricket matches with the noise of crowd. Thanks for updating @JSRAW

What do guys think about this article.- Coronavirus scare: Plea in Madras HC against IPL 2020, Karnataka government seeks advice on matches in Bengaluru. Source

I do not think it is possible to postpone IPL. I think they might not allow spectators to come to the stadium.

If it is to be true, I think it's better to postpone the IPL, why not. Otherwise, this season, IPL will face a huge loss. There is nothing wrong in postponing the season, may be it will be hard to get a schedule later but still it is better than facing a loss.

@pakhittheboss my Indian friends have informed me that the virus is spreading really fast out there, and BCCI has two options out in their hands i.e. one allow spectators inside and sanitise them or play the match behind closed doors and let people watch it live from their homes. @Little Mouse don’t worry the IPL won’t be postponed under any scenario because BCCI loves money, and they’ll do everything in their power to keep the league alive but we will have to wait for few more days to see what solution do they come up with.

They cannot postpone IPL as they themselves do not know when will the virus threat will be over. I am sure it will be go on as scheduled but with only Television viewership.

By early April in India summer will start and I did read somewhere that virus does not survive in hot temprature. Therefore I think few of the matches will be conducted in empty stadium.

Do you really think they will be at loss if they don't allow spectators inside stadium ?

Think again after reading that . Stadium earnings are ofcourse a significant part of their overall earnings but I am pretty sure they can manage to make good profits by just televising and not allowing people inside the stadium .

SL and India looking strong as compared to other teams. OZ squad is very disappointing, only 3 familiar names (Brett Lee, Brad Haddin, Brad Hodge)
I was surprised to see the veterans coming back and playing the game, just now watched some highlights from youtube and it looks really great, expect the fact that these bowlers have reduced their pace because of old age and the standard of the game is pretty decent even at this age. I wonder how Brett Lee is able to bowl now without the pace, so it this going to be a regular tournament from now on or just a one off tournament.

Yeah! Considering almost everyone is around 45 +- year old, they are doing great job. One Windies bowler Tino Best was clicking 140 km/h every now and then, Although he's young 38ish as compared to other fast bowlers. Brett didn't get to play yet, may be next match...

Nope no regular tournament.. but have to say, so far easy money on every game.

Zimbabwe were no match for Bangladesh in their T20 series, I'm not sure how long this can continue for Zimbabwe as its becoming a joke now with the way they play cricket in all forms of the game. Something really needs to change or they risk not having a team in the future, its a shame to see a team that has been around for almost 30 years playing so poorly.
You are right now time for ICC to act and have some strict policy about this because its really hurting badly they are really shit as team in all formats with very poor skills with big defeats which are not helping any one.

In my honest opinion, I think it is time for Zimbabwe to leave the ICC because the way they are playing doesn't really help the game of cricket. We need a more even competition and having Zimbabwe playing the way they are is an easy win for almost all the other teams so a change needs to happen sooner rather then later.
