Australia has done a great job at keeping the corona virus under control so far however winter is coming soon which could cause the virus to spike but as the country is in lock down it should help steam the cases in winter. Why I say this is because it could be a good sign that the T20 world cup will go ahead as planned if Australia can keep the virus under control.

CA or ICC are open with the idea of "Empty stadiums" ? CA already talking with other boards for cooperation? it can't happen if other boards are not on same page.

I think, at this point, it's safe to say that IPL will not be played this year.

Let's hope that we get to see at least the T20i World Cup, without the crowd of course.

Yeah, no need of IPL this year and mini IPL / 20 days IPL is not good too.

@JSRAW a T20 World Cup without fans is like eating a pizza without cheese on it, and it’ll be a horrible idea as players won’t be pumped up to play those big shots, or do their usual antics as there’s no one to cheer them up. Also I hate to say this but I feel that Allan Border is right, as he’s asking the T20 World Cup to be called off if there’re no fans allowed in the stadium to watch it.

I was watching Sunil Gavaskar and Ramiz Raja talk in youtube. Mr. S.G was saying that there are very thin chances and now BCCI has only 20 days window for IPL as new deadline for lock down is 3rd May. In normal times IPL final takes place in 23th-ish May every year.

In India, today there was an announcement from the MHA (Ministry of home affairs). A number of relaxations were being declared regarding the lockdown. The ministry has permitted the opening of IT and ITES firms from April 20 onward, with up to 50% staff attendance. This is an encouraging sign from the government and it is clear that they are looking forward to lift the lockdown. I am still not very sure about the IPL, but BCCI is going to try really hard to start it as soon as possible.

So finally, we hear from BCCI that the IPL of 2020 is suspended till further notice due the Conon Virus. Though there is still a hope kept alive that it can happen how and when could be a question they need to look at it. But I would say that cancelled for the year and mostly we would be seeing the IPL now in new year considering the schedule for the cricket tournaments of different countries.

I agree with him. The pandemic is a global one and not dependent on only one country's position so even talking about when it will be held now doesn't make sense. The players also need to practice as due to lockdown, their workout also must be affected. International flights in India may take a long time to start so talking about June-July is out of question.

Let's get everything done without crowds. Roll Eyes
This could be really good as we will go all without crowds because life is more important then this all.

Contrary to what Pakhi posted here, Sourav Ganguly didn't made any big announcement today.

For those who are outside India, I will give a few quick updates on the situation here. There is a mix of good and bad news. The good news is that the rate of growth in the new infections is slowing. But the bad news is that, even now anywhere between 800 to 1,000 people are getting infected per day and that casts a dark cloud on the future of IPL 2020.

The Prime Minister will be addressing the nation tomorrow (on the last day of the lockdown). By all probability, he will be extending the lockdown, by at least two more weeks. However, there are indications that there may be relaxations in a few sectors.

If the BCCI stages the tournament in July (around three months from now), then it is going to be a historic blunder. China was able to contain the pandemic after 3 months of extremely strict lockdown. Here in India, we are currently on the 3rd week of national lockdown. I am not expecting the situation to improve before June-July. Even if the situation gets improved by then, a major event such as the IPL may once again nullify all those efforts.

No, they will not anymore.

Most likely IPL will get cancelled this year or get postponed indefinitely until the situation becomes normal. Sourav Ganguly will be addressing the media tomorrow after a meeting with the BCCI governing body.

Even if Sourav goes ahead with the press meeting tomorrow, there is no guarantee that he will mention anything about the IPL schedule. Yesterday in India, we had more than 1,000 new cases (the largest increase till now), and it looks that the situation is not getting any better. It may take a few months, before the government may be able to control the ground situation. Until then, the BCCI can't plan for the rescheduling of IPL 2020.
Yes, at this time the entire committee will never plan for the league to be conducted as per schedule. Surely the discussion will be upon the postpone. At the moment government too won't allow the IPL. From my view everything is a business, and here IPL is a big business. So without people there is no money, and that makes everything to take place when things get to be better and normal as before.

In India things will take times and will be atleast for next couple of months before the situation completely becomes normal . By then the rain will start in India and this the matches is postponed till Oct end or Nov and thus if before they have to play then it will be out of India and that too not all would be their duentonyheirncoutbry prior schedule is already being fixed. Mostly it would be cancelled only .

In India things will become far from normal within a couple of months. India was the first country in South East Asia to implement lockdown and still things have not gone in favour of the country because 20 percent of its citizens do not want to follow the rules.

These 20 percent have now become super pressed and situation tends to get worsen more with the coming months. Already some states have increased the lock down period to 30th of April.

This is one of the reason why IPL will get cancelled or postponed.

In case if you guys missed this news. BCCI is planning to conduct this season IPL in the month of July without any spectators. I just read this articles in today. I might have been late but what do you guys think? Is this a good idea? I do think it is very risky but the situation will not become normal any soon then why not conduct it.

Not exactly July but by winter as well so that will be November, December. It may be possible that by then things will die down but that's only if we don't have T20 WC. July looks pretty impossible as of now.

Am preparing to see virtual matches where each player plays cricket from his own house and they telecast it on TV Cheesy

Looking at the present situation I doubt Corona virus issue will die down by the end of this year untill their is a vaccine to cure people and stop this infection from spreading.

Just read a news today about people who got cured from this deadly virus. They have been again found positive, there is no escape from it only social distancing is the answer.

And it's still the same. No improvement yet.
The stores have the goods now but you need to stand in a long queue for over an hour to get into the store and there are restrictions on the amount of products we purchase, we can call that improvement than empty shelves  Cheesy. The situation is getting worse and there are talks that the lock down will be extended and during that period there is no cigarette or liquor and if you still need those you need to spend double the market price in the black market.

That's a stupid decision from BCCI. Within July, the pandemic will barely overcome. Players will be at risk of course as well as the associated people. That's not quite a few people only. BCCI must not have that rights to do so.
I highly doubt the government will allow any events to take place unless they could test every player and have a conclusive result and right now you cannot say that because one of my acquaintance tested negative in the first test and on the second test he is tested positive and now shifted to a hospital and under quarantine, so the testing procedure is not that straight forward.

I am sure they are being pressurized by Star TV as the loss on their part is pretty significant.
The loss is not a major factor when you take into consideration the risk involved in carrying on with the event even with upmost precaution.
If this lock down is going to be extend then surely we are going to be watch more problems and these could create more deaths then Corona because in our society we have nothing like Europe or USA we are living in sub continent where corruption and black marketing is mostly one peak in days like these here in our country situation is also going to be worsen as we are in 20th day of lock down really feeling upset for many families around me in my local area.

I don't think T20 world cup would be possible as even if one country hosts it or not, we have other countries like England, India that may backout. It's only if everything dies down by June that the match could be played without any audience but still precautions would be taken. It's likely not to happen. They postponed so many events till 2021 so this also may get postponed and it's better it does if the cases don't end.
There is no way we could see any sporting events in the next few months, the best solution is to extend these events indefinitely and when the situation calms down then it makes sense to schedule accordingly because as for now the Corona virus determines when everything returns to normal.
The only event that i thought would take place was UFC and that too was scrapped because of safety reasons.
