Gujarat Giants vs Mumbai Indians Women, 1st Match
Mumbai Indians Women player, Hayley Matthews's promising shorts were truly amazing. The West Indies batting all-rounder Hayley Matthews trying to make big score so far in this Womens Premier League 2023. So far unbeaten with an excellent innings of 42 runs off 27 balls. Her strike rate is 155 which is considered good performance in women's cricket. If she can stay on the pitch for a few more overs then Mumbai Indians Women will be able to build a big innings very easily.
Observing the match,,
Mumbai Indians collected a huge total of 207. It is going to be really hard for the Gujarat Gants to chase down successfully.
This is even a huge target by the standards of men's IPL.
The Gujarat Giants just started batting. In four balls they have only one run. Not an ideal start by any means.
There is no way they are actually going to be able to chase down this huge target.
We got a chance to enjoy a wonderful inning. The batsmen of Mumbai Indians have done brilliant batting. I have never seen such a big target in women's cricket. Harmanpreet Kaur's batting was outstanding. He collected 65 runs in just 30 balls. His strike rate was 216. Amelia Kerr and Hayley Matthews's batting were also good.
I don't see any chance of Gujarat winning this match. First of all, winning by batting at a huge target of 208 runs is almost impossible in women's cricket. And secondly, Gujarat's top order collapsed early in the innings. They lost 3 wickets for just 5 runs and Gujarat lost the fifth wicket for 23 runs. Now it seems that even scoring 50 runs is challenging for them.

After giving a huge target of Mumbai 208 I thought the first match of WPL might be going to be competitive. But I did not imagine that the players of Gujarat Giant will bat so badly. After 12 overs, Gujarat's collection is 49/7. Dayalan Hamalatha scored 24 runs off 17 balls. Gujarat's 4 batsmen returned to the dressing room with zero runs. The Gujarat giants conceded a humiliating defeat in the first match. They will probably lose by 130-140 runs.

Ladies and Gents.

If you are watching WPL then watch on the JIO App instead of tele. Completely different and much better experience over there, some dodgy glitches with the camera angle (naming) but other than that it's looking quiet well. It's only going to get better.

These are tactics to gather more and more people for audiences to attract their interest in WIPL ( cheap tickets, giving tickets for free) as its new   women's will definitely come to watch to support .
This should be a motivating factor for rest of Asian countries to organize their women leagues.
Yes, mostly members here are feeling good tactics from BCCI, but I have feeling they are known how to sell their products because they are already had more than their expectations from media rights so allowing women's free is surely not bad even they can go through with this idea for the next four yeas as well because this will give good encouragement to women's, and they will also have the good number of fans in grounds which will be also good to watch on media.
Now wait is just how things will happen in this first edition because environment is very exciting and players are also desperately waiting for this big movement in Indian cricket history for me in next cycle they will be able to have their figures into INR 1500 crores because exciting is good round for the WPL start.
Today's is the first match of WPL starting in few hours between Gujrat Gaints and Mumbai Indians , many international players are also participating in this first edition of WPL.  This is start of a new era of cricket and hoping that this era will have positive effects on rest of the world women teams.

I am eagerly waiting to watch this match. A new era of women's cricket is about to begin. I am not worried about how they will perform. However, this will increase the acceptance of women's cricket. At the same time, women's cricket will become more popular in the Indian subcontinent. And the WPL is organized to increase the popularity of women's cricket.

Venkatesh Prasad VS Akash Chopra

Just found out that both of them would be part of the commentary team in WPL 2023. I am not sure how BCCI was able to convince Venkatesh Prasad in doing commentary with the Chopra after both of them had fight over KL Rahul on Twitter. I guess they might have offered him a good amount of money. This turn of events would certainly spice up WPL 2023. I am pretty much convinced that many cricket fans like me would watch WPL more to listen to these two than develope an interest in women's league cricket. I hope these to forget that spat and provide great commentary in WPL.

I still don't know whether the WPL will find a large audience among the Indian women. Being a women, it is hard to find anyone from my gender interested in cricket. Even among my colleagues, almost all of those who are interested in women's cricket are men. My female colleagues are in general not interested in sports and even in cases where they show interest, it is for sports such as tennis and badminton. I am not sure about the younger generation though.

Women's sports parties are of less interest to women. And this is why the popularity of women's cricket in the Indian subcontinent is low. And in any sport, the Indian subcontinent has a male interest. I have seen very few women who are interested in women's cricket and follow the matches regularly. But I know many men who are interested in women's cricket and enjoy the matches. At the same time, they also place bets on the matches. However, women's sports are slowly gaining popularity. The future may see a larger audience for women's cricket.

I think atm tickets are dirt cheap for WPL but they should continue this strategy of free tickets. Their main source of revenue is media rights anyway, which earned them enough amount so they can afford it easily.

Media rights was sold for ₹951 crores (2023-27 cycle), which was 5x more than what the BCCI expected. Given that there are 22 matches in this season, there is a potential to earn ₹10 crore plus from the ticket sales, which is not a small amount (almost 5% of the annual media rights amount). And I believe that there is enough fanfare for the women's game in India to achieve this figure. Tickets are priced from ₹100 onwards. But I agree that a limited number of tickets can be distributed for free. Maybe 5,000 tickets per match. Anyway, thousands of tickets are given as complementary to the judges, IAS/IPS, politicans.etc. So why not a few for the common people?

Slowly women too getting better opportunity to play cricket league and keep themselves busy. Following this more countries could start their league for women. This will help them personally improve their career as well as have consistency in performance. When they play at certain time interval, surely the performance won't be the same as the previous match. Australia have got the strong league for Women. Maybe India will place its position next to Australia and later takes the first position same as IPL did with Big Bash League.

Today few more things have been added to the ticketing. I checked with the terms and no more possibility to book through Bookmyshow. It shows Closed and does this mean that the tickets for the opening ceremony and the inauguration match is already filled. If so, the response is really good for WPL.
You can visit the stadium to buy tickets. I guess the online quota might be over but offline they might be still selling tickets. I also believe because of cheap ticket cost they are sold-out online. You cannot get IPL tickets for that price. Since it's the first year that why the tickets are dirt cheap. I also read that Kiara Advani, Kirti Sanon and AP Dhillon would perform in the opening ceremony which might also lead to full house.

The opening ceremony is going to be a full house. Even if people do not come for anything else, they are going to come to see the performance of Movie Stars. And also the tickets are very cheap. I am expecting a full house in the opening ceremony and also the first few matches. At least if I was in India, I would have gone to see the performance of Kiara Advani  Grin

That's really a good marketing strategy as well as it gives an overview that BCCI is giving importance to Women. I find this to be good initiative, and this needs to continue in the upcoming years of WIPL. Only thing annoying is the number of teams. If they've planned better, surely more teams would've got into the league. Anyhow it is just the beginning for another big league of the future. Cheesy
True, Although at the start it was looking right decision but after seeing how many players went unsold in the auction, it felt like they were a couple of teams short.

Normally gate collection hardly generates big profits (unless tickets are pricy) and sometimes it's pocket change for the BCCI so better to pack stands with free women's entry and earn some points.

Also, the packed stadium looks good on tele and it seems their main aim is to bring more women into the stadium, which is a very good sign for women's cricket or women's sports in general.

For the initial 2-3 years, maybe BCCI can toy with the idea of providing free entry to a limited number of fans (especially students). But gate collection is not that insignificant. I don't know how much the tickets for WPL is going to cost, but IPL tickets are priced from ₹800 to ₹35,000 (for matches involving Mumbai Indians at Wankhede stadium). Assuming an average of ₹2,000 per viewer, if 25,000 fans attend the match, the gate collection will amount to ₹50,000,000 per match. After tax and all the cuts, it should be enough to at least pay for the security and other expenses. And don't think that people are not interested in women's cricket. There is a surge in popularity within India recently.

WPL is about to start tomorrow, with the first match between Gujarat Giants Women and Mumbai Indians Women at the DY Patil stadium in Mumbai. Difficult to pick a side here, as both of them have very good players. Gujarat Giants have heavyweights such as Harleen Deol, Sophia Dunkley, Ashleigh Gardner, Sneh Rana and Georgia Wareham. Mumbai Indians squad include talented players such as Harmanpreet Kaur, Yastika Bhatia, Heather Graham, Amelia Kerr, Nat Sciver-Brunt, Chloe Tryon, Issy Wong and Pooja Vastrakar.

What a Fantastic Marketing Strategy by BCCI!

WPL will commence on the 4th of March and tickets are now available for purchase on the BookMyShow app. Tickets are priced at INR 100 & INR 400 respectively. What made me my day was when I saw on the app that tickets are free for women on a first come first basis. Do you think any other board can beat this marketing strategy?
[img..]https://i.imgur.com/tdXJEfMl.jpg[/img]
I guess it's fair to say that BCCI knows how to present and sell a product.

This strategy is going to be really hard to beat. And the BCCI knows very well that there will be a lot less spectators on the ground to see women playing cricket. So making a certain number of tickets free is going to ensure that there are of course people on the ground watching the games. This way the tickets are also going to be sold out. I mean the tickets would have been sold out anyway in my opinion. But this "free" idea is going to keep people more interested.

Normally gate collection hardly generates big profits (unless tickets are pricy) and sometimes it's pocket change for the BCCI so better to pack stands with free women's entry and earn some points.

First, it is a strategy to encourage women in women's cricket. BCCI knows very well that the more women are encouraged the better women cricketers will be produced. Moreover, maybe they are adopting this strategy to popularize this league. They will observe how the attendance of the spectators will be in the field. Maybe as a strategy BCCI is trying to fill their gallery more with women spectators as they know ICC will be keeping a close eye on it. In this regard they will be completely successful.
