But a new upload of the image, as a guest, and it already appears:

https://talkimg.com/images/2023/05/12/opecf97c8726aa1bd95.png

I suggest you upload the image again.

Thank you. I tried to upload it again and the first time it worked. Later when I tried to reload the page the header image was loading. But the other image which was middle of the thread was loading and disappearing. That If one is working other is not. Don't sure if it's my network issue. But later used other site postimg.org and it worked well.

How do you create an account there? there's a sign-in link only.

Learning to read the first posts in the threads Wink It has all been written there for a long time that if you want to have an account on the site, you have to submit a request to the owner of the service, and he will decide whether you can register or not.

- It is only possible to have an account on the site if requested by the user and after analysis.

Hi Joker, just wanted to check if it would be OK for ChartBuddy from the Wall Observer thread to use your service. It's a bot with hourly uploads so just wanted to make sure to clear things with you. I'd be happy to credit you.

Very nice service.
I have an immediate feature request: add a couple of field for “height” and “width” attributes.
If I populate those blank field, this get added to the BBC code. The picture doesn’t need to be resized, just the attributes to be customised.
I saw this is a scheduled development, but I think should be very easy to provide a custom value in the Full HxW format.

Given they are legacy images, downsize them to <100Kb each.
They're all kind of images, including animated gifs and large detailed graphs. Downsizing won't work for all of them.

Another problem: They're all in the same root-directory. I assume imgur.com used a database for them, because my file system won't like having that many files in one directory.

Wild idea: I'm downloading Imgur images that stopped working. How cool would it be if theymos can update all imgur.com links to talkimg.com?

Slight problem: I've downloaded 398 images so far, and it takes 92 MB. I don't know the exact number yet, but it looks like there are about 800k images in total. So give or take 200 GB

Given they are legacy images, downsize them to <100Kb each.  Might save some space for desert.

Just a small suggestion - would it be possible to have a "go up a level" button, or "home/directory" button to get out of an image folder, please?

I didn't understand the suggestion. Can you explain better, please?

I've created three directories A, B and C to split my images into three categories, Rugby, Known alts and others stuff.  (None are sub-directories of any of the other two)  If I go into any of these three directories I am no longer able to see the three directories and there is no directory tree to take me back to the page that shows all three directories.

Do you plan to run ads on your website in the future when you will reach more users? Or, You will keep it ad free?

I am available to accept advertisements, just like subscription campaigns here on the forum. But it will just be an ad placed under the upload button. So as not to disturb the use of the site.

I take the opportunity to inform you that theymos was pleased with the project, and gave its support in two ways:
- On the help page, next to the images tag, there is a link to TalkImg.
- And we're going to have a factoid suggesting the TalkImg website.

I would like to thank theymos publicly for their availability and support!
Nice to see that theymos likes and supports this project. You needed that support to motivate yourself to continue with the same energy ( I would say more power). I am already using talkimg and to be honest, it loads faster for me. I hope the Imgur issue will move more users to your service. I had a question. Do you plan to run ads on your website in the future when you will reach more users? Or, You will keep it ad free?

Now another interesting question. Who uses most images in BitcoinTalk every day? If you don't know, It's ChartBuddy. Someone needs to wake him up and suggest using Talkimg Instead of Imgur because his image is not showing up anymore.

I also tried to use the service a few hours ago. But I started to face this issue that once I reload the page after loading 70-80% of the image which is hosted in talkImg is suddenly disappeared. I don't know if it's only happening to me. You can check it out here.

I'm notifying you here so that if something is up then it could get solved. Thanks again

This is weird! The image is loaded on the site and working, and also does not give error via forum proxy.

Which honestly I can't explain, actually using your image it doesn't show up:

And perhaps a mini text signature that can be placed in the post

e.g.

TALK[img] Talk with Images™

Code:
[url=https://www.talkimg.com/][glow=orange,2,300][color=white][b]TALK[nobbc][img][/nobbc][/b][/color][/glow] [color=orange]Talk with Images™[/color][/url]

Interesting idea, I'll think about it in a future OP update. Thanks.

I'm going to tryout the screen grab tool over the weekend - can the grab take the whole window spilling off of the screen?

Also, can height/width be set to take just a specific part of the page?

@joker_josue First of all thank you for creating this awesome tool. Now after the Imgur issue, talkImg will get more priority from the bitcointalk community.

I don't know if @joker_josue is giving anyone who asks an account and API key, but if he is... you can use this script to add a button that instantly uploads an image directly from the forum!

Thanks for this feature. I will soon add it to the OP.
We will continue to talk to improve this extra tool to this service.  Smiley

Install here: https://greasyfork.org/en/scripts/465886-bitcointalk-image-upload-button-talkimg

For transparency: since joker_josue is having trouble setting up CORS, this script uses a proxy I deployed to tunnel the requests. This means that I could technically read your talkimg api key when you make a request. Pinky promise that I don't, but realistically you can't never know.

You can always use your own proxy and change the url ("uploadUrl" variable).

I've been looking at the various threads in the local tabs, and I've seen a lot of questions raised, some of them also asked in this thread. Most of the questions I have already answered, but I noticed that they are repeatedly raised. In that sense, I decided to make a small FAQ to help clarify some aspects about this project.

Frequently Asked Questions:

# What is the advantage of this service, compared to the competition?
This service was not created to compete with other image hosting services. The service was created to be a useful tool for the needs of users regarding the use of images in the forum. Developed thinking about its exclusive use on BitcoinTalk. It was also done with the aim of putting an end to the posted images that disappear months or years later. Therefore, the advantage is that it is a service intended only for this forum, useful resources may appear for the forum, and give the possibility for everyone to speak directly with the creator of the project.

# What guarantee do we have that the service is for the long haul?
I've been dealing with online image galleries for almost 20 years, I'm quite familiar with this type of service. My goal is to keep this site up and running as long as possible. I am also taking steps to make regular backups of the images, which will allow, in case something happens to the project, it is possible for the images to be hosted elsewhere and the links to be adjusted via the forum BD. This will ensure that the images will remain visible in the posts.

# Why are there limitations on the images?
There are no limitations other than those imposed by BitcoinTalk itself, regarding the use of images in the forum. The limitations are the same as for the forum: images larger than 2.5MB are not displayed; the forum only accepts JPG, JPEG, PNG, GIF images, other formats are not displayed. In this sense, as TalkImg was created exclusively to serve the forum, it maintains the same limitations.

# Do images uploaded to TalkImg only work in the forum?
Generally speaking, yes. The server is configured, so that the images can only be used in the forum. Despite this configuration not being 100% effective in all scenarios, this is the project's objective: it will only work in the forum. But, if there is a lot of support in the community to open up the use of the images to other places, I can review this situation in the future.

# Why are there restrictions on account creation?
There are actually no restrictions for a user to have an account. Any forum member can apply for an account, and if he is not known to be a spammer, he will have an account. The service only serves to host images that will be used in BitcoinTalk, so it is not worth having applications open to the general public. But if the demand for an account is significant, I can change this.

# How will the service be able to support the costs?
At the moment I have everything ready to guarantee, in this initial phase, 2GB of images. To give you an idea, until the time of this post, the uploaded images occupy an average of 230KB. Keeping this average, we are talking about more than 7000 images. If, within a few months, this number of images reaches half, I would say that the service is being a success. This was an indication that it had the support of the community, and as such, it would easily be able to double or triple this capacity. Believing that he would certainly have the support of the community in this process, if necessary.

Honestly, this made by @joker is very useful for me every time I add an image to this forum, these apps are really good and useful to be honest.

Perhaps this is one of the passions of the author of this topic. And it's funny at least that he can think of a way to help the community here on this forum platform. Thanks again @joker_josue

I understand this is by bitcointalk member for bitcointalk. However, for longetivity for my images I'd likely stick to imgur, it ought to have less dependency on single point of failure.

I don't think you understand. The original post was specifically addressing the use of image hosting services for the Bitcointalk. Although Imgur is a well-known image hosting platform, it still entails relying on a single point of failure. How can you ensure the longevity of your images on their service?

Well, because it's popular, been online since years and is not managed by a single individual, this is what I meant by single point of failure. joker_josue manages TalkImg, what about site if something happens to him?
I think, joker just does what he loves and offers his service for free, he has also proven that he has taken care of similar service for more than a ten years. Personally, I support him and I'll use his service in future. By the way, you are right also, if you don't feel safe, don't use it. To my mind, some people here are extremely supportive towards something sometimes but I think that we don't need to discuss whether use joker's service or not, he offers it for free, has proven experience and its just personally up to you whether you want to use his free service or not.

I wouldn't mind making regular backups (rsync) of the data. Ideally, a few people should do that, and if joker_josue ever loses interest, the data could be restored on talkimg2.com. All we'd have to do is kindly ask theymos to replace the domain in the forum database and the images are back.
Great idea. Are you going to connect your VPS via FTP and download that way via 10gbit speed?

As the image is loaded first here on the forum, when we get to the LoyceV website the image appears.
That shouldn't matter, the image on the forum runs through ip.bitcointalk.org and has nothing to do with the above link.
Not exactly. By chance I already spoke as theymos and he said the following:
So if you send caching headers, this will be passed to the end-user so that their browser caches, but the forum's image proxy will never cache.
The image proxy URL is different than the direct URL, so those are different cache files in your browser.
