They are also quick to challenge calls too if they are close but if they are 100%
convinced either way the accept it and move on. This is not cool by Musetti and
can be looked on as cheating IMO.
I wouldn't call it cheating, as someone pointed out it is not his job to call it, it should have been done by ref. It is definitely bad sportsmanship and no thought at all about fair play. You do stuff like that couple of times and I am sure players look at you differently and you lose a lot od dressing room respect.

In Hamburg Musetti was able to beat Alcaraz in 3 sets. I did a cheeky bet on Alcaraz half
way through the second set and got odds of 2.85. Alcaraz went on the bring the second set
to a tie break and won it but Musetti was able to claim the third. He was able to break
Alcaraz in every set early on. This is his first ATP title.
There was a bit of controversy in this match as well. Musetti  hit the ball after it bounced two times and ref did not see it. He was prick enough to not say anything and just continue like nothing happened. Not cool by tennis fair play but it worked out for him in the end.

We could see a rematch in couple of days since both players are playing Umag next. Hopefully I'll manage to go and watch a game or two live.
that was bad sportsmanship from Musetti for sure but it's not his job to call it and he didn'tget out of his way to cheat, so technically speaking you can't blame him for that, he deserved to win the it he played better and kept his composure throughout the whole match, you gotta give him that.

We have seen it many times where a player will call their opponents ball in after it was
called out by an umpire, all the top players have done it and have that mentality.

Very nice Trofo, I hope you get there too!

I wonder did Alcaraz discuss the double bounce with Musetti after the preceedings?

I did not see that defeat of Alcaraz coming. He seemed to be able to easily win today, especially when you see how he easily won the previous rounds. And he was also placed 1st this tournament. I have no idea how good today's opponent was. We have often seen players in the past who are mayflies. We haven't seen much of him at Roland Garros, for example. It's all preparation for the US open, where Djokovic will in any case not appear at the start  Cool

Yeah, I wasn't able to watch, but the last time I check Alcaraz was like 1.12 as betting favorite. Too bad for those who bet huge money on him and thinking this is an easy game.

I have to check what @Trofo is describing though, might be controversial to me. I'm not saying that Musetti cheats or what, but could be a question of sportsmanship? I don't know, most likely borderline.

I think very few people saw this coming. For most people it was clear that Alcaraz would win the final. And now Musetti has won it. I did not see the match, I have only read the reports. And according to the reports it was an exciting match. But Musetti kept his nerve and in the end we can only congratulate him.
..This is called the luck  factor  - there is always a very important factor it can either make someone a hero or if the person is unlucky they can be zero in a jiffy.
Congrats to the Musetti - well played and we got to see some amazing strokes.

The final game in Gaastad tournament between casper Ruud and berrettini was as promised it was a total war and ended with 2 1 to Ruud, berrettini managed to win the first set but Ruud was able to make a comeback if it was on grass i think berrettini would've been my favourite.

Yea I watched the last half of the match, Ruud was pretty much on top for that time.
The commentators said that Berrettini's forehand abandonned him in te final set so the
score suggests that 6 - 2.

Yea if it was grass he would have overcome Ruud who didnt have a grass season really
or possibly if Berrettini was further along with his recovery it could have been closer.
Ruud though is such a strong performer, and has been fairly consistent.

Some interesting tennis news:

''Spanish teenager Carlos Alcaraz will become the youngest player in the top five of the ATP rankings since Rafael Nadal in 2005 after reaching the Hamburg Open final.''
Source: https://www.bbc.com/sport/tennis/62280435

Nadal is already close to tennis retirement, but the more I watch Alcaraz, the more I feel I'm watching Nadal's successor. Of course, it is very difficult to say whether Alcaraz will achieve the kind of results that Nadal has, and play for so long at the top level, but he definitely has the talent and potential to do great things in tennis.
Since I watched Alcaraz play in Umag last year I have been saying we have a future number one here. He is complete player without week point and already strong mentally with just 19 years under his belt. Furthermore he seems humble enough to not let fame get into his head. For instance Umag was his first title and tournament that sort of launched his career and he is still coming back this year to play even though it is arguably below his current level. I was keeping one eye on that news since it is usual that top players cancel these small ATP 250 tournaments.

So, it seems that Djokovic, if he doesn't change his mind about the vaccination, will only be able to play 2 Grand Slams a year in the next few years and thus probably miss the opportunity to become the greatest tennis player of all time, based on the number of Grand Slam titles won.

The semi-finals of the tournament in Hamburg are taking place today. I think it is pretty clear that Alcaraz will reach the final. In the other semi-final match between Musetti and Cerúndolo I do not have a favourite. The odds are also very similar and therefore only small differences will surely decide victory and defeat.

I think it was an easy bet, I have Musetti -1.5 against Cerundolo and Alcaraz for the win in a parlay. Musetti though has moments in the second set that I thought he will lost, he dominated the first set by in the second set, Cerundolo was down like 3-1 but then storm back and force the game in a tie break wherein Musetti won. As for Alcaraz, it was the other way other, force in a tie break in the 1st set, but in the second, the breeze past Molcan 6-1.

The handicap odds for Alcaraz is -4.5, ML is not that attractive at 1.16 against Musetti. I think Alcaraz can cover this spread in 2 sets.

''Novak Djokovic will be joining Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Andy Murray to play for Team Europe in the Laver Cup.''
''The event, which pits six European players against six from Team World over three days, will take place in London between 23 and 25 September.''
''"It's the only [event] where you play in a team with guys you're normally competing against," said Djokovic.
"To be joining Rafa, Roger and Andy - three of my biggest all-time rivals - it's going to be a truly unique moment in the history of our sport."

Source: https://www.bbc.com/sport/tennis/62262153

As Djokovic said, it will be really very interesting to watch the joint team performance of the greatest tennis players in history.
Recently, especially after some statements before the GS in Australia, it seemed that Nadal and Djokovic are no longer on good terms, but they will still play together in the European team.
This will really be a special opportunity to watch them perform together, for the same team, and enjoy great tennis again even though the competition itself is not so important.
Does this mean that Nadal and Djokovic have reconciled?  Grin

Yes, possibly after all they are "elder" Tennis players at this stage and will/should have mellowed
with age ?

This is a unique event in Tennis and more so this year with the 4 biggest names in mens
Tennis over the last couple of decades competing as a team, sharing tactics and
practicing together.

Team World dont have a chance

★ Novak Djokovic, Rafael Nadal, Roger Federer and Andy Murray have won 66 of the last 76 men's grand slam singles titles

★ Team Europe has won all four Laver Cup titles since the first was held in 2017

Alcaraz had needed a little more effort than most had thought. The first set with four breaks in a row had to be decided in a tiebreak. In the second set, Alcaraz gave Molcan no chance and he deserved to be in the final. A great performance from Molcan. I am looking forward to the final, Alcaraz against Musetti.

Thiem success was put to an end in the semis, as he was dominated by Berrettini.

Same with the match between Ruud and Ramos Vinolas. Both Ruud and Berrettini won setting up the finals match. And they didn't give any chance against their opponents as they completely demolished them. I thought that it will be a close semis, but both won in 2 sets. Ruud even have 6-0 win against Ramos Vinolas. Berrettini 6-1 against Thiem.

Thiem is really coming back strong lately. After that injury and huge losing streak it looks like he is finally picking up pace. Semi final for him is a big achivement ,by the end of the year we might see him in a final or maybe win some of this ATP 250 tournaments

Alcaraz might struggle a little with Molcan,Molcan this year improved a lot but still shouldnt be a problem for Alcaraz. The other duel will be intresting because i think both players are pretty equal. Cerundolo only might be in better form then Musetti in last couple of tournaments.

Yes that is right. Molčan has really improved tremendously this season and it is also his most successful so far. The semi-final is the third semi-final he has reached and it will not so easy for Alcaraz. I expect a somewhat exciting game but Alcaraz will finish the match as the winner.

Alcaraz is just way too strong for anyone and should be fav to win the tournament. Even with Musetti being in a fine form himself. Should be a great match nevertheless as both the players are very strong on clay. Could potentially be a 3 setter nail biter but I can't see how Alcaraz loses this. His defense and movement around clay is way too good. Reminds me of a young nadal. Powerful and one of the best movers on clay.

By the way, did anyone watch this game yesterday: Elisabetta Cocciaretto - Caroline Garcia? Garcia was the clear favorite but lost the first set 0-6 (LOL) and then easily won the remaining two sets (LOOOOL). If I was looking for matches similar to fixed, then this would be one of the most obvious contenders. It turns out that the one who made a bet on the defeat of Garcia in the first set with such a score won at least x60  Roll Eyes

Would definitely be fishy for someone to bet on Garcia to lose first set 6-0. Coz that's pretty rare to happen for a clear fav player. Even though, I think the tournament is played in the opponent's home country. Well, to be honest, this is what a classic WTA match looks like. Even Serena is prone to antics like this. She'd play like she cant even move over the first set and hit everything out and then absolutely destroy the opponent in the next set. 6-0,0-6 as scoreline is fairly common in WTA.  Cheesy
