Kim Clijsters has officially retired again from tennis and now foregood. She is 38 years old and made a come back 2 years ago without any success. She was just able to play 5-6 matches (which she all lost) and it was always my impression that she came back to make some more money as the chances she would win another grand slam were very low.

will this be the final time too? Smiley
Anyway, I always wonder why these "flashbacks".
At a certain age and without that competitive constancy it is practically impossible to win anything decent.
who knows if we will see the Australian A. Barty on the field again ...

Its more than likely about earning some funds, I would definitely expect Barty to
make an appearance in the future. She might be focusing on other things now but
there is a high chance Tennis will call her back.

At the Monte Carlo Masters today Alcaraz got despatched from the competition by
Korda, I suppose it was to be expected given his high performance levels over
the last two tournaments, Pity I couldnt see that 24 hours ago!

And Djoković is out... This was a really good performance by Fokina and I expected him to crumble after loosing 2nd set in tie break but he won that decider easy. i guess Djoko is a bit rusty from not competing but still he was not bad and this match had to be won. Fokina really gave his everything and ended the match with bunch of cuts and bruises. He was diving every other game to get to the ball. You don't see that so often these days Smiley
Did you predict this result coming into the match, there is no way i was able to predict this outcome and there were huge bets being placed on Novak Djokovic even after loosing the first set and after watching the second set i knew it is going to be a tough match for him as it is not his day and i had to cash out and it turns out to be a good decision even though i lost half of what i wagged.
No I did not predict it but I skipped betting on it since I expected something crazy from this match. I couldn't decide if Djoko will play like crazy and destroy opposition or if he is gonna be rusty from not competing. That is why I watched the match to make my choice easier in the future. Rusty it is  Grin

Djokovic indeed needs game time to get back to his performance and sits currently
on 8420 points

Djokovic won less than 500 points this season, and still sits on top position, which is really good for him, but he has to get back on tournaments in other half of the season to stay there
Nadal and Medvedev are out, which suits him, and Zverev is simply not no.1 player (Medvedev as well, but there is no competition currently there)

IMO, Alcaraz is closer to getting there in medium term, especially with good results on clay tour

Well we just seen a great match by Fokina and a terrible one from Djokovic. Its now known that Djokovic is missed too many matches this season and now it effected his gameplay and monte carlo and with this i think he will lose the first position again. He needs to start playing better and get much more matches if he wants to stay first or win matches

Yeah, probably just a bad game from Djokovic and Fokina taking advantage of it and played perfectly.

@babygun - probably for the money or maybe there is still something in her and thinks that she can make a good comeback. But we all know that women retired early in their career in the last 5-10 years. Just like Ash Barty who retired just earlier, I think women are more prone of the wear and tear of this sports.

Interestingly the race for the top spot, #1 is taking on a lot of twists with a few
players edging closer to battling for it.

Djokovic indeed needs game time to get back to his performance and sits currently
on 8420 points

Medvedev is out of action until possibly the start of RG and its looking like Wimbledon
will ban all Russian players from perticipating, he sits currently on 8410 points

Im going to leapfrog Zverev and go straight to Nadal who is also currently out of action
with a rib injury and there is no date yet as to when he is back, he is on 7115 points.

Now back to Zverev who hasnt been lighting up the tennis courts ATM and sits on 3rd spot
with 7195 points. He plays tomorrow against Delbonis and should win that which edges
him closer to the finals, is he aware of the position he is in to possibly take top spot in the
medium term? He is the only one still playing with a shot at that spot.

Now thats some upset, I had a few Satoshi's on him to win, must have been rusty
but as a #1 you at least I would expect him to be unstopable after being
off for so long and wanting to get back on track, he wont have got much value from
that match.

I didn't see the match, but when I see the score in the first set, I just say to myself that it was a typical Djokovic game,  I mean losing the first set and then coming back in the last 2 or even giving his opponent a bagel, but not this time.

I also had Tsitsipas to win but as the tournament progresses I wont be backing him.

Yes, we all know how inconsistent Tsitsipas is.

Alcaraz is in action later today against Korda, I recon he will be continuing on from
Miami!

True, Alcaraz is the hottest player right now, together with Sinner so I wouldn't be surprised if he goes to the semi/final in this tournament.

Totally, totally forgot about Monte Carlo, just yesterday saw Djokovic playing keepball with some... actual football stars. The guy even juggles better than me (but anyone who can keep ball more than once is better than me).

Saved myself an early outright exit... time for another Tsitsi re-up?

Fokina has been enough good to play a strong tennis but today this was a really bad performance by Djoko!
On third set when I was played the ball for 4-2 he has literally trashed out all balls played likewise without interest on playing.
Next game on 5-1 he was super concentrated on the point going on tie break ... Roll Eyes well this was an ugly performance, never seen him playing so bad Sad

I have betting today "Humbert winner against Martinez". Odds was really high @12 and collapsed literally to @3 during the second set. However the French has wasted a couple of opportunities and he lost in a weird way the second set after leading from 1-4 to ... 7-6 !

Interesting match today between Paire and Musetti. Paire was again on track on second set but it was clearly he was not able to win the match.... third set ended 6-2 ....

today I see as interesting match "Fognigni vs Tsitsipas" . I don't think Italian player would be able to win...

Sinner is also back in action and faces Coric. He should win this, hopefully he wont
have to retire.

Also Stan Wawrinka is playing at Monaco too and he faces Bublik.

I have a bet on Sinner and on Korda to beat van de Zandschulp, Korda is going
well lately and performs well on clay.

Yes, I should have also bet on the ML for Opelka because it is a very good odd as well, but he won the match so I'm happy with my winning.

For the final, I might go with the over, unfortunately, betting line is close as of this time, maybe I will check later. Or I will have Isner, he is the underdog in this fight ML @2.26.
I am not playing that poor excuse for clay tournament. I mean what kind of clay tournament does not have any clay specialists in the draw  Grin

Monaco masters starts today and all my bets are on that one. We have a lot of clay specialists here in early rounds playing against guys who can barley stand on this surface. I will try to capitalize on that. Clay is the most different turf on the tour and here it really matters who knows how to use the surface to the best of his abilities.

^^ A moneyline bet on Nick doesn't make sense, odds is 1.10.
So I'm going with the -4.5 @1.71, if he is on a roll then definitely Nick is going hard to be stop as we have seen him before. No doubt about his mental issues, but if he has conquered or at least controlled it, maybe he will have a good chance to bag his first tournament win this season.
You guys that play on Kyrgios realize that this tournament is played on clay?? I mean he already has 2 wins this season and that is exactly the same as in last 4 seasons all together. I would not put a penny on Nick while playing on clay. Not saying he is not gonna win but those odds on clay scream handicap against him. At least for me.

Yeah, I know it's on clay, but I'm banking that he can overcome someone who is not a rank player, unfortunately, it was a default match.

But it might be very different in his next match because he will be facing Opelka. So I will have the +1.5 on Opelka @1.97.

Good call on this one, easy win for Opelka I would say, Nick try to come back from 1 set down, but then again, this is Nick and 9 out of 10 he will break down mentally.

Finals shutdown, Opelka vs Isner.

For the argument as to who is going to have a break out year with this young guys, yeah, two names is coming up, Alcaraz and Sinner.

I think also that another top player could be Sinner. he proved to be a player of top levels.
About Alcaraz...
the only thing that worries me is his young age. will he be able to progress and growth and not feel the pressure even at a mature age?
Sinner is a solid top 20 player for me and I am not giving him any chances to ever be top 3. He is solid but he is nothing exceptional when compered to the best. He has a style of play which capitalizes on opponents errors and top players are not giving him those errors.

Alcaraz on the other hand has a game that can get him wins against anybody on a good day and he is future top 5 for me without any doubt. With a bit of luck and a lot of work maybe even top1.

I think Sinner is still to young and we will see a lot more from him. I think he should be in the top 10 with how the things are going lately and it is just a matter of time. Alcaraz is on another level and his talent promises that he will be in top 3 in the world for sure. Alcaraz will do more on clay then other surfices like Nadal probobly.
