In Japan today there was a great loss today of "big players" ... some of these results was somewhat really curious and unexpected.
At least to me all these defeats sound really strange but as already said, at this level there is a strong competition and everyone has a chance...
Here a short list of some of these matches:
Aliassime vs Nishioka
Tiafoe vs Nakashima
Fritz vs Fils
Ruud vs Thompson
Tsitsipas vs Michelsen

What do you think guys?

2022 Tokyo champion Taylor Fritz returns to his favorite court shortly after the US Open final, the biggest success of his career. Arthur Fils, on the other hand, is looking for good performances in the fall to close out a strong season. World No. 7 Fritz is one of the favorites for the match and the trophy, but he has a tough opponent in the first round. Arthur Fils, facing him for the first time, might ask him some questions.

We have Frances Tiafoe, who has been in great form since the US Open. But the same can be said for her opponent Brandon Nakashima. who is also enjoying the highest ranking of his career. However, Nakashima has not been successful against Tiafoe in their past five matches. This will also have an impact on how this matchup goes. I think Tiafoe is one step ahead.

You made an error, HER pertains to women!

Anyway Tiafoe against the odds has lost his match with Nakashima, and lost that in 2 sets, thats not
great from Tiafoe, he is match fit, playing the Laver cup last week.

Fritz is also in action, its gone to the 3rd set, I would be surprised if Fritz loses this but I wouldnt bet
on the outcome at this stage.

I am also following the match between Sinner and Jarry in the China Open, its in the second set,
Sinner is a set behind and looking like he will win the second. I would e very surprised if he loses this,
He has points to defend being the reigning champion.

The women are also in action in China and I will be following Osaka who plays Putinseva tomorrow,
not a lucky draw!

Day 1 of the Laver Cup is coming to a close with a match tie break in the doubles.
Team Europe lead 2-1 ATM.

I had a straight bet on Dimitrov to beat Tabilo in the last singles match which he did,
Also Tsitsipas won the second match against Kokkinakis but Ruud lost the opener
against Cerundolo. Ruud is not in great playing form recently.

I think Team World have the stronger team but It doesnt mean much IMO
when a doubles match can have a big bearing on the days outcome.

EDIT

After the doubles match its Team World 2 - 2 Ream Europe!

Its also true about the saying "money talks" and it talks regardless of real world
issues a human rights issues.

Davis cup - is anyone watching, following or betting on this? Does anyone else find
it unbelievable to follow or even get up to date results?

Laver cup starts tomorrow, Sinner or Djokovic arent playing for Team Europe but
its still a stronger team IMO

Isn't the official website, available here: https://www.atptour.com/en/scores/archive/davis-cup-finals-group-stage/8097/2024/country-results usually updated fast enough?

Do you mean it is not updated fast enough?

I've seen the Davis Cup in multiple betting sites as well.

Ah I was checking on https://www.daviscup.com and I dont think the site is being updated
quick enough. This tournament seems to be really drawn out, we are still not even at the
semi final stage.

Quarter finales take place tomorrow to the 21st. Italy, Canada, USA and Spain are already there,
Argentina, Australia, Germany and the Netherlands are fighting to see who they play in the quarter finals.
When that is I dont know? its so annoying.

I normally get my updates and daily schedule from google results, very handy actually.

as the ancient Romans said "pecunia non olet" (money doesn't stink/smell bad).
It is clear that there are big financial deals behind these initiatives and it is really difficult if not impossible to say "no" for the players.

...

it's clear that they are pushing in this direction.
Influennce with billions football has not brought great results... with this event, they have practically already won Roll Eyes in any case...

6 Millions of dollars for the winner and 1.5 millions just for join the tournament.
These are the real figures in Riad for the "Six king Slam".
The players involved are Sinner, Alcaraz and Novak Djokovic.
Wow Roll Eyes It will be interesting to see (for gambling) if this tournament will have an impact on future competitions...

I dont know what to think of this . . . It seems very obnoxious in terms of the money involved.

Looks like Saudi Arabia has to and is willing to put up massive money to attract top athletes.
And lets face it  the players are only going for the guaranteed top plunder while setting aside
the face that Saudi Arabia has torrid human rights issues.

So lets look at who will be there:
Djokovic, Nadal, Sinner, Alcaraz, Medvedev . . . and Rune?

Also didnt Andy Murray hit out at some of the players complaining of the long busy schedule
and then go playing exhibition events . . .

https://www.express.co.uk/sport/tennis/1870739/Andy-Murray-Novak-Djokovic-Rafael-Nadal-Saudi-exhibition
Money is doing his magic and things are taking huge changes Saudi Arab after spending huge funds in soccer now entering into another sport which is Tennis, and they are going to host exhibition matches which will bring top six players for the worth of millions of USD prize even there are serious criticism about their polices and trying to host WTA events as well but still things are going as they are planning for last few years.

While we are having serious debate about long busy schedule, but still money is important for them, and they can do anything for this while if we have this event which is carrying out huge money most chances we will have no complaints about work load or another else from player Saudi Arab influence is surely working, and they are stealing things with this for having more important events in coming years.

Davis Cup

Group stages of the Davis cup has started with wins for Spain Australia in group B,
Germany, USA in group C and Canada, Great Britain in group D. All eyes are on Spain
and Alcaraz and maybe USA, they could be the two strongest teams. Maybe Italy
too even though Sinner is not playing

Sinner defeated Fritz far easier than I expected across straight sets just like how Sabalenka defeated Pegula earlier in order to claim his second grand slam which is epic for the world number 1.

Seems that the attendance in the stadium was really high and a record too. 2024 has proven that the time of the big 3 has actually ended once and for all.

Tennis actually has reached another level of popularity worldwide. Here in Italy for the first time in 55 years, there are people that are watching tennis match and not italian national of soccer! Crazy time. It's clear there is a new kind of interest in this sport .

Yesterday the match wasn't not hard for Sinner. The difference between the two players was impressive. However the American guy was playing very good, I will not be surprised if he can achieve a better ATP placement in the next years.

Negative note of the day. a lot of polemic discussion on social network by Kyrgios. Australian player continues to attack Sinner Sad in a silly and provocative way Sad

Tennis in Italy for sure bitbollo and I know you are very proud of that as we all
would be. Sinner is leading the way on the mens side and Paolini on the womens side,
two of my favourite players.

As I said earlier at the weekend Sinner has been the most consistent and for sure
he can maintain that. Alcaraz for example has a bit of catching up to do now to get
to Sinners level.

yes, everything begin from doping incident of Sinner.
actually this issue has not yet been closed since WADA could still offer a new request for the Italian man.

Regarding Kyrgios, I am pretty shocked that someone with so much influence, money and time decide to waste it and become a troll Roll Eyes
but probably this is something "normal" at this point of the career, but it would be better become an influencer on field and not on line ! Wink

Not siding here, but it is all about the doping incident right? And Sinner as far as what I read has been caught twice already and so we just have to read the rules that he should be at least suspended if he is really caught with illegal substance in his system.

And we all know how big mouth Kyrgios is, he is just one of those tennis player that could be the case of what if, he has the talent and has the potential to be one of the greats from Australia, but his antics in and out of the court has cost him his career.

Sinner is actually destroying Fritz.
The difference is very big between the two players.

The 1st set has been conclude with the result of 6-3
The 2nd set is undergoing and it is 4-3 for Sinner.

It should be an easy win from this point and second Slam for the player.

Pretty agree with that. Victory today for Sinner is certainly within his possibilities.
Fritz isn't the worst player for him Roll Eyes but bear in mind, it is still a final, of a very important and very long tournament.
several newspaper articles have come out about Draper's conditions linked to the extreme heat. there are many factors that could have a big impact on the match. According last info, Sinner has full recoverd from injury on left hand.

...
No I cant see any other outcome than Sinner to win tomorrow. No disrespect to
Fritz but he isnt at Sinners level yet.

It is a final and it is a home game for Fritz as he is going to play in front of an audience that will mostly support him. The mood among the audience could also be influenced by the doping scandal that Sinner went through, so my expectation is that there will be tons of sympathy with Fritz. But still Sinner has his qualities and that is what needs to be outcompeted, which is tough.

I thought that Pegula might have a chance against Sabalenka since she was playing in front of her own crowd as well, but it wasn't enough. She didn't get slaughtered though. I guess that Fritz will be able to take down a set, but the whole game will be incredibly tough for him as Sinner is in great shape. He pretty much destroyed Medwedew and other than that one set against Medwedev, he didn't give away any other sets in all those other games. 3-0 all the way.

However, Fritz beat Zverev in quite convincing fashion and the good thing is that he was able to take down two tie breaks against Zverev, which shows that he is on point with his nerves. I seriously hope that this is not going to be another 3-0 for Sinner. It would be too boring.
