it seems that Sinner is not completely out from doping claim... or at least until september 6th he could have a notification regarding further investigations by WADA....
Today he has officially fired his athletic trainer and his ("famous") physiotherapist.
in addition to losing a team selected with dedication, he has lost about 1 million dollars in prize money (Indian Wells).
so many difficulties for the number 1, who knows if they will have an impact on his performances.

US Open kicks off with round 1 on Monday, qualifiers have finished so the matches
have been set. As it stands on both the mens and womens I cannot see any upsets
on the cards for the top seeds.

On the mens side Dominic Thiem got a wild card and ends up playing Shelton, thats
bad luck!

On the Womens side Osaka has bad luck too in having to play 10th seed Ostapenko.
Osaka is slight favourite at 1.65 v 211 for Ostapenko.

Funny, I just read that 10 mins ago!

I was fully acquitted though, seemingly one of Sinners physiotherapists was
the substance which is sold over the counter in Italy for a cut he had on his hand
or something like that.

Sinner is clear to play but will lose his points and prize money from his semi final
in Monte Carlo - this is when all this happened!

Sinner has just been found positive in a doping test!
It seems the Italian guy from San Candido has taken "Clobestol" - anabolic-androgenic steroid.

https://www.repubblica.it/sport/tennis/2024/08/20/news/sinner_positivo_antidoping_ma_innocente_giochera_us_open-423454599/?ref=RHUO-UO

However it seems that has been a very low amount and much probably not directly linked to a doping case.
No issues for US Open participation... Roll Eyes

Closing stages of Cincinnati and we had a battle royale in the semi final between
Sinner and Zverev, 3 sets with 2 tie breaks and the middle set 5-7. If you had an over
bet on you were a winner!

The other semi final was an unlikely pairing of Tiafoe v Rune, neither player has
been lighting up the courts this year but Tiafoe with his new coach are on a mission.

Sinner v Tiafoe - 3 sets could be on the cards here

In the womens side its Sabalenka v Pegula. Sabalenka put out Swiatek
and Pegula put out Badosa. This has to be going to a 3 setter?

Bit if a upset yesterday when Monfils beat Alcaraz over 3 sets! I'd say the odds
on Monfils were very good.

Two other players going well are Rublev and Fernandez.

Rublev is pitting some reall solid performances in now for the last few weeks
and books a spot against Sinner today. This has the potential to go 3 sets.

On the womens side Fernandez is in great form, she has already beaten Rybakina
in the round of 32 but unfortunately plays Pegula in the quarter final

Sinner has already got his Cincinnati campaign up and running by beating the
next gen American Michelsen. I am expecting nothing less than a tournament
win from Sinner.

On the womens side even though Swiatak is playing and had a 3 set mixed bag
result over Gracheva whom I'ce never seen before I would still like Paolini to at
least end up meeting Swiatek.

and its Popyrin who takes the title beating Rublev quite easily 2-6 and 4-6 which
killed my idea of a double with Rublev /Pegula.

Pegula won her match and took the title in 3 sets.

So its over to Cincinnati now and from yesterday I'm really disappointed that
Osaka got beaten in the qualifiers by Kreuger. My interest now is on Paolini,
she plays tomorrow.

...as does Sinner who faces Michelsen. Keeping it Italian Berrettini plays Rune
tomorrow and is favourite at 1.7, hard to tell if this will be a 3 setter or not.
Sinner getting knocked out over the weekend was another top seeded player leaving the tournament along with Zverev and Sabalenka early. Really rough for those who had these players winning their matches disappointed on their bets.
But with all the rain delays where there were 13 matches being played in one day when there are usually 7 was rough on the those players.
Sinner didn't look so good when he lost that last match. He was on the court more than what he is used too and it showed.
Surprised to hear that Rublev lost to popyrin. But his match of course was under a rain delay before it reached the end of the second set.
So that probably caused his rhythm to be off because the previous match he blanked his opponent to take the match easily.

We are having some surprised at the end of this event Montreal Open Hurkacz and Zverev both lost their matches and have early exit like Sinner now we are having final between Popyrin vs Rublev with these results look like players are in hurry for having their matches in Cincinnati Open because I was expecting easy wins for both top seed players, but they fail to manage things. Popyrin and Rublev both won their games in straight sets for having spots into final which is going to play after few hours with Rublev is hot favourite for the win of this title at the @1.36 but most chances we will be having tense game between these players for the win.

In Toronto, we are having good final with all Russians are lost their games, and we are having final between two Americans Pegula is having good advantage against Anisimova, but this is also going to be good contest for the trophy.

Amazing that the two Americans are putting together good performances before
the US tournaments. Timing is everything!

In Pegula's case she has indeed had a poor enough season, she is favourite at
1.49, I think she will win.

Over at Montreal its surprisingly Rublev v Popyrin. Its amazing from Rublev to bounce
back from his recent meltdown at the French open to making the final here. He's favourite
at 1.33.

Could be an interesting double bet on Pegula and Rublev?

Pegula vs Anisimova
Pegula has recovered from a not so good season. Pegula has been playing consistent tennis in this part of the season and has made it to the final here as well. Anisimova, on the other hand, is trying to find her old form after a long break. However, she only lost one set in this tournament before reaching the final, and she has knocked out some big names. This match will be a clash of two different styles. Pegula is the favorite with his experience on the court where he has been champion before, but you have to be open to surprises. I think it will be an exciting match.

Currently, as we are having challenging schedule for the players things are going more complicated because players are having injuries concerns and many other problems so they are trying to avoid from few events which they feel are not good Rafael Nadal are withdrawn from the US Open and his career is hanging in limbo because most chances now his body is not allowing him to have more tennis at the top level like he was playing few years back.

Now we have another news as Novan Djokovic is withdrawn from event Cincinnati Open as this was going to have warmed up before big grand slam now he will be going to play US Open after having some rest because winning Gold Medal in Olympics is surely amazing for the player and his country.

Novak will be fine, he can actually turn up and play and get better as the tournament
progresses. Especially in a grand slam when its the best of 5 sets. We have seen him before
losing the first two sets and coming bact to win the match.

Sinner didnt play at the Olympics
Alcaraz is not playing this week
But everyone will be ready for the US Open.

Over at the Canada Open Womens quarter finals its all USA v Russia. 5 Americans
play 3 Russians.

Navarro v Townsend
Anisimova v Sabalenka
Pegula v Stearns
Snaider v Samsonova

Aaaand just like that, Aryna Sabalenka is out 4:6, 2:6. Her 5th loss against Anisimova.

Yes looks like Anisimova has the beating of Aryna. Its 3rd set against Navarro ATM
and on serve. Later its Snaider v Pegula, this could be an all American womens final.

If I'm not mistaken, there were times that he skipped the Cincinnati Open if he doesn't feel right. And obviously, after winning the Gold medal in the Olympics, he was pretty banged up, specially his knees as we have never seen him play that kind of intensity.

Although correct me if I'm wrong from other fellow tennis enthusiast here, Djokovic might lose some points here not playing on Cincinnati Open. However, I do not think that he cares about it, what's important for him at this point is to win another Grand Slam.
With his current state of form we can expect another epic fight for the win against all new generation players after having Gold Medal in Paris his confidence level is surely high because he is doing amazing stuff and now having enough time for rest as well even he is facing cut in points but as mentioned he can recover this all in US Open where things are favouring him for another win and having some good stuff for the rest of his career after sad ending of Rafael Nadal in Paris most chances he came back is not under scrutiny.

Sinner is also having not ideal start after illness, but he is having good time in Cinci where he can catch momentum and having good chance of win as well Alcaraz is also surely going to have fierce game after lost in Paris.

Yea Djokovic will drop points just like Sinner dropped points already at the
Canada open by being beaten by Rublev. Sinner had to play two matches
yesterday though and after his match he mentioned that he has to work
on his confidence.

Two quarter finals on there ATM
Korda v Zverev - surely Zverev has to win this?
Popyrin v Hurkacz - Hurkacz should win this too

More US open news, Nadal wont be playing! He is definitely coming to the end
of his career, injuries or struggling to be fit takes its toll.

Quote
Rafael Nadal has pulled out of the final Grand Slam of the year, the US Open
at Flushing Meadows; Nadal has not announced his retirement from tennis

https://www.skysports.com/tennis/news/12110/13192912/rafael-nadal-spaniard-pulls-out-of-us-open-after-quarter-final-run-at-olympics-with-carlos-alcaraz

Yes, I think the end is near for Nadal, he could have retired already, but perhaps trying to get a feel of the competition and his body before he announced and make it final. Or just like  the other great tennis players, it's hard to really quit after so many years in the tournament.

Although with or without Nadal, Djokovic will be the favorite here, haven't check though is status if he has recovered from the injuries as we all know that he played the gold medal against Alcaraz nursing some. But still, with Djokovic's competitiveness and his heart, and even if it very hard to win another GS for sure he will go for it like it will be his last.
That is as shame to hear about Nadal. I remember him having back problems for years now and had to have multiple medical time outs during his matches in the past to recover. His last performance wasn't too bad but the grind on his back and knees are probably affecting his gameplay tremendously enough for him to call it quits.

Djokovic is one of those players while still injured can fight it off until another day.
This is another reason why they call him gumby not just on the court but off of it aswell.

What has happened to the mens matches yesterday in Montreal?
Had bets on three but they got pushed to later on today. They were all matches later in the day.
The womens were being played as normal from what the above post states.

Well if Djokovic can perform like he did at the Olympics he is definitely in
with a shot.

It will be interesting to see how Sinner performs in the next few weeks, he has
to be one of the favourites along with Alcaraz.

Just heard today that Tsitsipas has fired his dad as coach.................again!
Stefanos lost to Nishikori in the second round of the Montreal masters. TBH
I think its a good move. He has been falling down the rankings and definitely is
right to ditch the dad and do something different.
