Djokovic has already voiced his reservations about going to the Olympics, that may not
happen, I understand if he is prioritising the 4th Grand Slam over the Olympics.

Federer is already out for Olympics and Nadal previously announced that he will not join too. So I think this would be a fairly easy win for Djokovic. He can do both US Open and Olympics I suppose. He seems fit and he won 3 Grand Slams in a row without any problem.
Recently he said he's 50-50 about Olympics, he's undecided because of strict restrictions. It's his choice but I think he has the capability to win both tournaments.

@ingiltere I’m pretty sure that he’ll be skipping the Olympics, because he normally announces it before attending any particular tournament. Furthermore I don’t blame him as he’s on the cusp of rewriting history, hence it totally makes sense to prioritise which tournaments to participate and which to skip.

Anyone watching the Hamburg European Open?

It's round of 16 already, Tsitsipas is the top seed here and will be facing Dominik Koepfer. Lots of good name with I check on the list, likes of Carreno-Busta and Delbonis, I think this is going to be a good tournament to watch and even bet for some underdogs here.
I check the competition, yes there could be good names in this tournaments, but mostly some tier B players. But in any case, yeah, there could be some upsets down the line as these players wanted to go up in rankings and maybe preparing for big tournaments to enter.

Tsitsipas might be the top seed, and since is his favorite surface, he could potentially win this tournament but with opposition from Busta and Delbonis or even Lajovic.

I do not think,,, I know for sure. Not only did he go to the US Open remember he even organized a tennis tournament right in the middle of the pandemic last year and the whole thing became a covid hotspot. He apologized, but clearly he did not care about it:) He also complained about quarantine measures in Aussie Open right?

So no, that will not be a concern at all.
I don't know if you have followed Djokovic off-court behaviour, but he is like a anti-vaccine person or his has a personality that is different from the norm. And this is one reason why he is not well loved, like Federer or Nadal eventhough he is the top seed and could broke the record of Federer. And yes that tournament also cemented his belief or non-belief about covid and vaccines. Anyhow, let's see if he can do the golden slams and win the Olympics.

No,,, I do not really follow people off sports. My favorite football team Spurs I know how they play and have my favorite football players but ask me about their wife or gf or house or car and I know zero about these things. Same for tennis, I know they play and sometimes more about them as they give more interviews one to one than in football,,, so that is why I said I know for sure he does not care about Covid.

But who he is should not be important as you say, let us see him do Golden Slam and then let us all enjoy it.

Just heard that Federer is pulling out of the Olympics!

Quite a few players were stumbling on the grass at Wimbledon especially in the first two rounds.  Serena Williams did the splits nearly landing on one knee and retired hurt.  I can't recall which other players did likewise, but I can't say I'm surprised another player has an ongoing issue from the surface.

I wish Federer well for a speedy recovery.

Yes it is possibly related to previous injuries and possibly not being 100% recovered.

Just heard that Federer is pulling out of the Olympics!

Federer pulls out after ‘setback with my knee’ at Wimbledon

If this is a serious injury with the knee it could jeopardise the rest of his career.

Damn, I wanted to see him at the Olympics one last time. Shame, I hope he'll be ready for the US open though, that will potentially be his last Grand Slam and with all top 3 players equal with 20 GS's each, it will be a major one to watch.

Regarding the Olympics - I understand the athletes that don't want to participate. Kyrgios already withdrew but Đoković not participating would be a major blow.

Yes its a "3 horse race" to see who can win the most Grand Slams, if I was betting on
that I would go with Djokovic.

What are the chances of Federer winning another GS? IMO he is now at the same stage as
Serena is, age and injuries have a big bearing on their ability. Also Berrettini has made
his mark now along with Tsitsipas as rwal contenders for The U.S.

Yea Djokovic is too strong, next up now is the next Grand Slam to make 4 in one season
which has only been done once before.

Berrettini has a fantastic first set to win it from 5-2 down, super effort physically and mentally but...
Djokovic always seems to have that extra gear.

I had a bet on Djokovic anyway to win.

I think it's already possible that Djokovic can win all 4 GrandSlam tournaments in one year. The top task would also be Olympic gold, Djokovic is currently simply in top form.

But Berrettini is still young and will still win a lot in his career.

Djokovic has already voiced his reservations about going to the Olympics, that may not

Ok from Djokovic I have not heard a cancellation yet, am curious if he will participate. At the Olympics, some have already canceled or expressed their concerns.

Federer has now also finally canceled for the Olympic Games. Here is also something about an injury to the knee.

Maybe also a reason for bis Wimbledon out?

Djokovic said that after the olympic games said that they wont let the crowd to the stadiums and serious covid protocols that he is currently 50/50% . He is a family man and to lose a lot of time in quarintine isnt something he is will to do. But he hasnt wont the olympic games yet and has an amazing chance currently

@aoluain - That doesn't sound good on Roger Federer.

We all know that he just came back from a injury and entered 3 tournaments if I'm not mistaken including the Wimbledon this year which he did a good show reaching as far as quarter finals. But hearing that he injured his knee, might be a bad sign that he is really getting old and his body are not coping with the rugged tennis tournament. I'm not saying that he should quit, but we might not see him again competition at high level which he used to be and might not win a grand slam, just saying.

In fact, Djokovic did not play his best tennis in the semifinals and finals, but that is also a characteristic of great champions, that they win even when they don't play at their usual level.
Berretini was very good but it is always very difficult to play such big and important matches.
The psychological pressure is huge and it is not easy for a young player to play such a match.
I'm sure that the Italian will be even better in the future and that he will soon start winning his first GS tournaments.
Personally, I think that Federer's time has passed and that he will no longer win any GS tournaments while Nadal has a chance only in Paris.
This year is a great chance for NadalDjokovic to win the golden slam, which no one has ever managed to win, and after that he can retire as a GOAT.
You should respect a little bit more Rafael Nadal IMO, he won the US Open in 2017 and 2019 (he was absent from the last one in 2020), moreover if Djokovic wasn't able to be defeated in any tournament except the French Open, sportsbooks wouldn't list his matches anymore or with odds equal to 1.00 or under 1. So your champion is not unbeatable, and you will see him losing in one of the next tournements for sure, mark my words.
BTW he won't be the first one to manage to win the golden slam, it has already been done by Steffi Graf in 1988.

You misunderstood me, I have a lot of respect for Federer and Nadal, and for me, along with Djokovic, they are the three greatest tennis players in the history of tennis.
I just expressed the opinion that currently Djokovic is the best and has the best chance of winning every GS tournament he plays in, while realistically Nadal has the best chance of winning GS in Paris and it will be very difficult for Federer to win a GS tournament again.
Many neutral tennis commentators think the same way.
As for the golden slam, I thought he would be first in the men’s competition.
Also, I don’t think, of course, that Djokovic is invincible or superman  Cheesy
His great career will soon come to an inevitable end and new tennis champions will appear.

I don't think Djokovic really cares of the number of infected people, last year he went to the US Open while most of big players like Nadal, Federer, Stan Wawrinka, etc withdrew due to COVID-19 safety concerns, moreover if you compare the situation in United Kingdom and in Japan you'll find there are way more covid19 cases in UK than in Japan : 35 000 daily new cases vs 2500

Novak's a beast of his own kind. Berretini played great tennis but even that's not enough against this Djokovic.
The Italian player had the illusion to be able to win Wimbledon but Djokovic really was extraordinary yesterday. Still I believe Berretini's an excellent player, he's young and might be able to become a top player.
Federer, Nadal and Djokovic won't play forever Cool

I agree on this, Federer's worst enemy right now is his age. I mean you can try all the tricks of the 21st century to keep playing as long as possible but I think he's perfectly aware that his tennis time has come to an end.
Don't get me wrong here, Federer's by far my fav tennis player! His stylish and classy tennis is some pleasure for the eyes of the spectator!
Going back to Berrettini, I think he can become a great champion! He needs a few more games against Novak and Rafa to get better and better: I think we'll see his name a lot in the future!

No because to get the Golden Slam you need to win the Summer Olympic Games tournament too but he said he's not really eager to paricipate because of the hard restrictions from the japanese authorities and moreover he wants to stay focus and to seriously prepare the US Open. So I don't think he will get the Golden Slam this year but getting the Grand Slam title would already be a great achievement.
https://www.bbc.com/sport/tennis/57799371
Unfortunately, if he will take this decision not to take part in the Tokyo Olympics because this is an opportunity for him to win a gold medal and also be able to equal Steffi Graff's record as the first and only player to do win all the GS title in one year and completing with Olimpics gold medal, but this is understandable given the current conditions in Tokyo, this is a little uncomfortable with the number of people infected with covid-19 starting to increase.

Well, you aren't number one if you really can't do any kind of awesome plays right? I think he deserves the win, he played really well and he is a down to earth guy, even mentioning Federer in his interview to make it sort of like a tribute.
