It is much better to leave when you are on top than to allow such humiliations and shameful defeats.
I am not so sure about that. If you really love the game you play it for the game itself and you find other things to motivate you. There is something in just playing without pressure of result to see how far you can continue. Why not break a record for the oldest guy to ever win a match on Wimbeldon? I am sure Federer could do something like that in the future.

I think this is not the end of his career, although we know that he is not getting any younger, thus his body is also deteriorating, he might continue to go and choose tournaments still in the calendar and continue his career until he can no longer play.

We should give credit to Hurkacz, he really played very well from the second set and the 3rd to give Federer his worst beating in a Wimbledon quarter final. Odds are against him though against Berrettini.
The guy has won several millions of dollars during his career he doesn't need to play in small tournaments to earn his life. I'm not sure his sponsors would agree to see him playing there anyway. Moreover it would be really humiliating for him to be beaten by random anymous players in small tournaments, I'm not sure he's ready to face that for few bucks.

Besides that Ashleigh Barty had a strong victory against Angelique Kerber in 2 sets this afternoon, she's now the favorite to win the tournament against Karolina Pliskova.

I can't remember a set that Federer lost 6-0 on grass. It really is a shame to see him like this, Hurkacs blew him off the court.

Berrettini is the one celebrating, he really had an easy route to the final. Aliassime is the first seeded player he had to play against and he can reach the final without playing against a top 10 seed.

Federer was the greatest tennis player 10 or more years ago, but his time has definitely passed and Djokovic and Nadal have now taken over the top of world tennis.
This is a typical example when a great athlete does not know how to recognize the moment when he needs to retire and stop performing.
We have a very similar example in women's tennis with Serena and Venus.
It is much better to leave when you are on top than to allow such humiliations and shameful defeats.

I can hardly believe it, but Federer was now clearly defeated in 3 sets (The last set is very suspect, injury?)
I watched whole 3rd set and I don't think there was injury involved. Hurkacz played very well after wining that 2nd set, he was full of confidence and he hit some very good shots. Federer was just the opposite, he played mediocre and gave away few cheap points but that is it.

I would feel bad if this was his last match. Not nice to go away with 6:0, better to win some small ATP 250 in Basel or something like that and then call it quits.

Thanks for the short summary, unfortunately I could not see the whole game. Sounds like many own mistakes and possibly also lack of fitness and match practice?

@Strongkored I feel you’re right and it’s just his age that’s showing up, and maybe now he should just realise it and call time on his career. Furthermore if he continues to remain adamant, and yet continues then he’ll only cause more embarrassment for himself and therefore I hope better sense prevails and he retires.

Don't forget that Federer came out of injury and didn't have a lot of match practice... I didn't expect him to loose in 3 sets against Hurkacz but I still think that Federer, if he can go back to his old level, can win another grandslam.

I also think it could be due to the lack of fitness, and he has come further in Paris as in Wimbledon than many thought, after 1.5 years it was still a good performance in my opinion.

Yes,,, I think we have to give it to Hurkacz. I maybe feel Federer will be disappointed in the last set and for sure I hope he plays one more GS,,, but maybe to gain more fitness and confidence in ATP as you say. This would be a terrible way to end his GS career, sad for a lot of us who watched him in his glory days.

TBH, I didnt expect Federer to win Wimbledon this year, he hasnt been playing at his top
obviously coming back from being off. Can anyone see him winning any GS in the future?

Can we apply Serena's situation to Roger's?
Being off, then recuperating, followed by a period getting back to fitness and then getting
match fit takes time and in that period everyone else is developing their games and progressing.

Yeah, I agree that we didn't even see Federer reaching as far as the quarter finals. On the first round, he has struggled, sign of bad things to come. And they he had a light draw in the tournament. Almost pair with players that are mostly clay court specialist. But this time, it was very different, Hurkacz is playing very high level tennis. And now that he will be up against Berrettini, another clay court player, maybe he can upset the #7 seed  and meet Djokovic in the finals.

I can hardly believe it, but Federer was now clearly defeated in 3 sets (The last set is very suspect, injury?) But my personal opinion, he can now end his fantastic career. No one would have believed him to be capable of the performances in Paris and Wimbledon at this age.
I don't think so Federer injury, Hurkacz played really well and Federer made a lot of errors which made Hurkacz more confident especially in the second set when he fell behind Federer (1-4 if I'm not mistaken) but managed to turn things around, can't believe in his own area Federer even couldn't get one game in the third set.

So probably also the 3rd GrandSlam tournament 2021 Djokovic will win.
This is what many people predict, but his next opponent is not an opponent he will easily to beat

Women's semifinals:
A. Barty vs A. Kerber my bet Over 19.5
K. Pliskova vs. A. Sabalenka my bet Over 19.5

Let's see how far Roger will go, he has a good chance against Hurkacz next, I will be rooting for him.

What intrigues me is the Shapolavov against Kachanov. Karen is a huge underdog here, but I will definitely go with him in a parlay with Djokovic and Berrettini. Although the Berrettini vs Auger-Aliassime might go either way, I think Matteo might pull through in a 5 set match.

Good call on the Shapovalov vs Kachanov, it's already on it's 5th set and it's very close match.

Shapovalov though is leading though 5-4 and serving for the match. it will be hard pressed for Kachanov to comeback as Shapovalov might close the match already, leading 40-15.

Yeah, but I lost my bet because I went on the underdog Kachanov, he really did give Shapovalov a lot of problems and I thought that he can pull this off.

Not sure what happen to Federer though, bagel in the final set, the last time I checked the score before I slept, he was up in the second set and I say that he has a good chance to win. Unfortunately, as others have said, he played badly and there was no injury whatsoever.

Yes i think its time for federer to retire he is not able to win grand slams anymore today he performed poorly especially in last set i think you are right he might had an injury but good performance from hurkasz too he comeback in the last game against medvedev and now a win 3 0 against federer but it seems that djokovic is really strong in this tournament and seems the title will be his .

You should be careful about Djokovic, people said exactly the same thing about Nadal few weeks ago for the French Open : Nadal can't lose, betting on him is a risk free bet. I replied to people to stay cautious about this heavy favorite, in sport things are never done before being made. And odds for big star favorite players are almost always bad. Finally Nadal lost at Roland Garros...

it is never risk-free to bet, but Djokovic is a value bet at the moment, he is practically in the final, Shapovalov could make him sweat a little, but I do not see how any of these players (or any at all) could win over him at the moment at Wimbledon
if Djokovic has a bad day, and Shapovalov has really great day, he could have some chances, but I highly doubt that, and Djokovic will probably lift the trophy on Sunday (although, I am from Serbia, so could be biased)

Hurkacz is a much easier draw, Federer will probably pass to the semis now. He'll most likely face Berrettini who I really like and who will cause him a lot more problems. Berrettini only lost 1 set so far (1st round against Pella) and will be happy that he's playing Aliassime instead of Zverev.

Đoković has an open road until the final, neither Fucsovics nor Shapovalov can knock him out. He will be a big favorite in the final as well, against whoever comes.

@Saint-loup I missed seeing this promo because probably it would be in my mail, but when it comes to French Open you can always wager on Nadal for assured returns.
You should be cautious about winning streaks Juggy777, they are rarely everlasting  Wink Nadal had already lost at the French open in 2009 and in 2015 . And he withdrew during the tournament at the third round in 2016. Hence I don't think there is usually much value in odds concerning him.

Federers draw is much harder then Djokovic’es a lot of hard opponents if medvedev didnt lose it would be really hard for federer even if he passed him.
He will probobly pass Hurkacz but against Berretini i dont know how Federer can win
