Encouraging news from Australia seems to be coming after all: ''Australian Open boss Craig Tiley says he is "absolutely confident" the Grand Slam will start as planned on Monday, despite 160 players waiting for the outcome of coronavirus tests.''
As it seems, as many as 507 people are in isolation but it is expected that this will not affect the start of the tournament.
All events will continue today, including the AO draw which will also take place today.

All tests came back negative, so everything is on track to start on Monday! Hopefully it will stay like this during the tournament.

Giving the quarantaine and these special times, I think we might see some surprises! Anyone already placed some bets on first round matches?

Haven't place any bets for the first round matches, too early though, but I have to agree that there could be surprises as early as first round. Maybe we can see an upset because of the prevalent conditions. As players might be affected negatively and can't focus on the match itself. Good to hear that all tests came back negative so that this tournament will run smooth without any hiccups.

Yes all is good to go for Monday which is great as it was looking unlikely there for a while when that hotel worker tested positive. Yes I have put $20 on Stefanos Tsitsipas to win the AO at $13. With all that has gone on with this years AO I also think we could see some surprises and Stefanos Tsitsipas seems to play very well at the AO so I think he is worth the gamble at them nice odds.

The problems for AO continue and seem to have no end.
This is the latest news: ''Between 500 and 600 Australian Open players, officials and support staff will go into isolation after a worker at one of the event's quarantine hotels tested positive for coronavirus.''
How this will affect the holding of the tournament and what else could happen by the start of the tournament?
This tournament has more and more problems with each new day and I sincerely hope that there will be no postponement or cancellation of the tournament.

Source: https://www.bbc.com/sport/tennis/55904746

This is not good for the tournament and also for the public as the hotel worker has been around many places in Melbourne and now some parts are going into lockdown because of this. The Victorian government was worried about this but he didn't want to cancel the AO because of fears Australia might lose the grand slam to another country. I just hope that they can get this under control and that all the players and official test negative because if some test positive then I'm not sure the AO will go ahead as planned.

Damn, when we thought that everything has been settled down specially quarantine and health protocols, another problem came in just before the opening. Yes, this is not good as it might extend the AO again. I don't know what measures the Victorian government and the AO organizers as everything is out of control now. Test can comeback in 24 hours I believed so I do hope that the results are already in for majority of the players.

Well the good news is that the players don't need to quarantine again for 14 days and if their tests come back negative they are free to practice and play as the AO officials don't want to push the AO back and want it to start on Monday. So it will be going ahead as planned this Monday unless something drastic happens between now and then.

Ok thanks for the update, that's good to hear that no one needs to go to other 2 weeks of quarantine as it really going to push the schedule again. And it's just like 3 days from now before we officially see the first AO game for 2021.

I have posted the odds for the men's side, I don't know if you guys have seen it or have put their bet early to enjoy a very attractive odds. Or just wait till the match started and then see the players performance first before placing your bets.

Putting everyone back into quarantine stems from the backlash when security guards had sex with the people they were supposed to be keeping safe instead of doing the job they were paid to do mid to late last year.

Australia's nightly news goes into meltdown when they report more than one Covid case per day, so tennis players agreeing to come to Australia to play (and bringing Covid with them) is creating a voter backlash the Daniel Andrews Government is having a hard time getting its head around.

I was wondering why there is no Tennis in Australia tonight. It was strange that all the matches start on the day after tomorrow. Now I guess that they took a day off to test all those players and then decide what to do next. Damn, wanted to play a ticket or two.

Yes, we do hope that Stepanos will not be a disappointment for us this start of the year. QF-Finals will be a good bet for him as the odds are going to be attractive. I want the new generations of players winning the AO to set the tone for this year.
Well he is playing in about half an hour against De Minaur which is sort of a perfect opponent to see how well Tsitsi managed to prepare for this season. De Minaur will always play solid solid tennis and you can't get a free win against him. That being said Tsitsi has a very good H2H with him and I am backing Tsitisi with hefty bet today. Hopefully Tsitsi will enter the new season with all guns firing.

This ATP cup will shows the form of a couple top player and then it will be easier to bet on AO.

I actually really like them odds for Stefanos Tsitsipas. On the local news here in Australia they spoke with Stefanos Tsitsipas and he said that he feels ready to go even though it was tough in quarantine. I like the way he was confident about this years AO which is why I might put $20 on him to see how he goes. We all know that he does have a good record at the AO and this could be his year.
Given how the preparation for the tournament went, I think no one will be surprised at any outcome and both the favorites of the first row can win, and other tennis players can also shoot. Although I would not be surprised that the special conditions of quarantine in Adelaide will play in favor of those who were there and someone from the three consisting of Rafael Nadal, Novak Djokovic or Dominic Thiem will take the first super title of the season.

True the conditions for quarantine in Adelaide was a lot better then in Melbourne and it might gives the players that did quarantine in Adelaide a slight edge, time will tell once the tournament is in the middle stages.

Not good news about Nadal as he has sustained a lower back injury and is in danger of missing the AO with less then a week before it starts. I hope he can recover quickly because we need the top players playing.

Even Djokovic admitted that tennis is now in the good hands as we have seen a lot of up and coming players that might replace them.

Too bad for Nadal, but we hope a week will be ample time for him to recover.

Anyone looking at the odds now?

My boy Stefanos Tsitsipas seems to be very attractive odds, so I might throw some just for fun. LOL.

What do you think of the odds though? Better to get your bets early to enjoy some juicy odds. Even Djokovic @2.2 is very good odds for a favorite.

It is beginning of the season and there will be surprises. We have to see what kind of form players will bring to the court. In situation like this I will not bet on outright winner but if I were I would take a shot on some underdog.

Let's say Rublev, if the court is fast and it should be in Australia and he is in his form he can take it for sure. Not saying that he will but odds above 20 have value for me. While betting on Djoko at odds a little over 2 does not make any sense. Any of the big hitters and there is a lot of them in this tournament can take him out on a good day.

Latest news from Australia:
''Six tennis tournaments played simultaneously at one venue during a pandemic - that is the feat Melbourne Park is aiming to pull off next week.''
After all the problems due to positive players on coronavirus, quarantine and all other controversies, players will finally get a chance to get out of their hotel rooms and compete in various tournaments.
It seems that the most interesting competition will be the ATP cap where Djokovic will lead Serbia, and all other tennis players such as Nadal, Thiem, Medvedev will also perform for their countries.
I can’t wait for tennis competitions to finally start  Cheesy

Sad news, I like watching Murray but after all his injuries, he didn't get back to the top level that he had before. In my eyes, he should call it a day and retire. He had a nice career winning 3 grand slams and winning 2 times Olympic gold.
Lets hope that Federer, when he comes back out of injury, can reach his old form and win another Grand Slam.
Yeah, Murray would love to try again, given that just in his career, just missing the title at the Australia Open, but there were 5 lost finals. Former Murray we are unlikely to be able to see. In general, I was very surprised when I heard that Andy returned and continued to play, given all his health problems and what technical things the doctors did to treat his spine.
