Tsitsipas just won in 3 straight sets from Dimitrov; Rublev is his next opponent.

Who do you guys think will win the US Open on the Women side? Halep was my topfavorite, but she is already out (as a lot of other top seeds). I think that Kvitova, Svitolina and Kenin have the best chances to win the title.

You mean French Open?
There are 4 name that I predict have chance to won the trophy Kvitova, Svitolina, Swiatek and Kenin, Swiatek and Kenin very impressive. I think now is time for Svitolina to become the GS champion, She's a great player but hasn't won the GS title yet.

Schwartzman vs Thiem, this is another formidable opponent for Thiem after Gaston, especially Schwartzman beat Nadal in Rome Masters but defeat from Djokivic in final.

@Strongkored he yet seems to be in the hangover mode, and I had answered this question in the other thread, and I’ll repeat it again that I want to see a Nadal vs Djokovic match, where I wish to see Nadal emerge as the winner. However it’s pertinent to note that Djokovic is in top form this year, hence Nadal may not find it that easy to beat him, therefore this will be an epic match if they meet in the finals.

Quote

Djokovic, who is now 35-1 in 2020, was the far more opportunistic player, which proved critical on Court Philippe-Chatrier

Anyone watch the Thiem match? What a great match to watch as Hugo Gaston really pushed Thiem as Thiem looked like he would win in straight sets but Gaston didn't let that happen and fought back to make it go the distance but he just wasn't good enough in the fifth set as Thiem showed why he is one of the top players in the world right now. But I think that Hugo Gaston is another young player to watch for the future as he showed that he has some talent.

Yes, it's a good win for Thiem, he is ahead two sets and then Gaston fought back with drop shots, Lol. It was a classic five set and Thiem really need everything specially in the decider set.  Lots of rallies, really a fun match to watch. And we should watch Hugo Gaston now, it seems that he has the tools to be great in the future. That drop shots though, he has that magic touch.

https://www.rolandgarros.com/en-us/video/highlights-thiem-v-gaston-rg2020-fourth-round

As I predicted in my previous post, this was a very difficult match for Thiem, especially on a psychological level.
Gaston could play without pressure because he had nothing to lose and all the pressure was on Thiem.
Gaston is certainly the biggest surprise of this tournament, perhaps the entire tennis season, and if he continues to play like this we will hear a lot more about him in the future.

Also I think its not starting to take a toll on Thiem as like I mentioned he hasn't had much of a break after winning the US Open and having these long matches won't help him and now must play another tough opponent Schwartzman. Nadal and Djokovic have had an easy run through so far and look very fresh.

yeah, Gaston was great, and seems that this was a tough match for Thiem, but Schwartzmann could also put him on the trouble, Sinner should be one more easy win for Nadal, prior to their match in semi-final

what to do you think about Dimitrov and Tsitsipas today, can't wait to watch that one today, Tsitsipas passed through first rounds, and now he is capable to reach semi-final, or at least next round with Rublev, will put something on him, just to make it more fun to watch
Did not watch any tennis yesterday since I expected easy wins for favourites, except Zverev maybe. Now I feel like I missed a great match
 Sad

I am thinking Tsitipas should win today and I placed him on my double together with Rublev to lose max 1 set, combined odds for that are nice @2.2

Tsitipas is much better clay player than Dimitrov even though Bulgarian has had nice clay season this year. Rublev is one of my favourites lately and I feel like it is time for him to get first win over Fucsovic, probably in straight sets.

as it looks at the moment, Rublev is not doing great, but anything could happen until the end
Tsitsipas took first set with Dimitrov, or we can say that Dimitrov lost first set, since it is his play that is on a really low level, rather then great play by Tsitsipas so far

up to now, i do not see that any of these players could take even a set from Djokovic, so he is almost certain in the final

Right now three matches underway Kvitova won in strait sets and Siegemund is also in leading position after winning first set Rublev strugginling after very good in first set even he lost his one by 7 -  but now in second he is strugging with the score of 4 - 1 Tsitsipas vs Dimitrov could be also very exciting match as both are doing good on clay.

Swiatek had an impressive win over Halep. Swiatek will not be disappointing in this tournament as she has no earlier height to hit.
Yes, sorry - I just meant she would be unlikely to hit quite the same heights she did vs Halep, it being difficult to do that twice in two matches against top seeds. But I shouldn't have used the word 'disappointing' - she's had a phenomenal tournament.

Bertens is also out of the tournament, so the quarter final will be Swiatek vs Trevisan.
Yes - my previous 'Swiatek losing to Bertens' comment is now irrelevant. This match is wide open, anyone could win - and the same can be said for the whole tournament - on the women's side, at least.

I watched the match in the second set only a few games, Swiatek very impressive, Halep became the favorite to win the RG this year after Barty the defending champion did not participate, this result is really shocking.
There will be new french open champions in the women's section after Halep and Muguruza defeated.

Halep in huge trouble at the moment... looks like going out.

... and she's lost! 6-1 6-2, against the world number 54, Iga Swiatek.

I don't think that Serena leaving the tournament was a big shock (whether injury or defeat)... but Halep losing in this way has surprised me. Maybe she didn't take her opponent seriously enough. Big shock. Some context - they played in the same round at the same tournament last year, and Halep won 6-1 6-0.

If Swiatek ends up playing fifth seed Bertens in the next round (although Bertens is currently losing)... then I'd predict that Swiatek will be disappointing and fail to hit her earlier heights. A shock victory against a big seed can I think often trigger a hangover effect in the next round, and Bertens should win easily. You saw the prediction here first! Unless Swiatek thrashes her, in which case please forget I predicted anything Cheesy.

Didn't see this coming! You would expect so see a scoreline of 6-1; 6-2 in the favor of Halep and not in the favor of Swiatek.
Bertens is also out of the tournament, so the quarter final will be Swiatek vs Trevisan. I wonder who could have predicted this  Grin ?

Swiatek had an impressive win over Halep. Swiatek will not be disappointing in this tournament as she has no earlier height to hit. She's just a young girl at 19 and it's her first entrance to limelight in grand slam career. Even if she fails to win the cup, she has still a lot to learn and improve. If she maintained herself, I bet we are seeing another tennis star on rise.

What a dominate performance by Djokovic, he is a man on a mission. I'm a numbers guy when it comes to sports and even though I have been saying that Djokovic might be the one to win the French Open after what happened in the US Open but I am now thinking that it will be Nadal winning. All we know how good he is on clay however my thinking is that he will equal Federer on 20 grand slam titles in the year 2020.

It seems to me that Djokovic has become too burdened with things that have nothing to do directly with tennis such as referees, his hunt to win more GS titles than Federer, the founding of a new tennis association etc.
If he was focused only on tennis he would be the main favorite to win any tournament but it seems to me that he just isn’t focused enough on his tennis, matches...
On the other hand, for Nadal, this tournament is his ''living room'' and he always gives 120% and that is why he is always the main favorite to win the tournament.

I would say that Djokovic is really playing good in this tournament and the only one that can beat him is Nadal and Thiem, who both are good in clay. And against Galan, Djokovic plays a perfect match, and as he said after the interview "I was happy the way I played, pretty solid tennis". It was really a display of superb tennis and even Galan said that Djokovic forehand in like a rocket.

It's over now, Hugo Gaston, won in the final set 6-0. Wawrinka lost steam, the game was suspended though in the third set at 2-2.
The last French man standing, now it will be Thiem vs Gaston. But with the way Thiem is playing I will not be surprised if he will stop Gaston in the next round.

I'd expect Thiem to win fairly comfortably. This was a huge win for Gaston, but often when a player achieves this sort of triumph, they find it difficult to sustain the same level in the following match. He may be the home favourite, but Thiem is one of the tournament favourites and should have a straightforward victory.

Did not watch Gaston yesterday but I sort of suspect that Wawrinka gifted a lot to him based on a lot if history with watching Wawrinka play. If somebody actually watched the match I would appreciate an objective review.

I watched Thiem against Ruud and he played unbelievably good. If he repeats that performance Gaston can have a home advantage but he will not take 6 games in the whole match let alone in one set Smiley

Surprising loss for Wawrinka, but Gaston played a good match. But against Thiem, it is another story. As Trofo mentioned, I don't think he will be able to win a set against Thiem.
But winning 6 games should be possible for Gaston, even 8 or 9 games is in his reach if he serves well.
