@vella85 - Exactly, there's no bandwagon on Tomic because he hasn't shown anything as of yet. Sure, when he was young he was very promising but just like the rest of tennis player who reach the pinnacle they lost interest and their career went sour. So he needed to win a couple of tournaments before we can say that he is a change man, otherwise we can call this win just another "one-hit-wonder".

Anyways, does anyone aware of Fernando Verdasco's rant on a ball boy during last month's Shenzhen Open? I was not aware of such incident, but its does look good on Verdasco image.

As an Australian I am shocked to see Bernard Tomic win a ATP final which ended a three-year drought. Tomic was behind 3-6 in the third set tiebreak before he fought back to win and beat Fabio Fognini. This was Tomic's first ATP title since 2015 and will not jump from No.123 in the rankings to No.76, making him the fifth-ranked Australian man. Now he must continue on with this form and not let it slip like he normally does.

It was a dramatic finish for the guy who keeps on saying he counts his millions, and is not serious about playing tennis. Three years is indeed a very long wait for him, and I do hope this victory acts as a catalyst for his carrier. It'll be interesting to see if he can continue his form and go on to challenge top seeds, he has more sterner tests ahead which shall go on to define his carrier.

I agree, it was a shocker to see him won after a long career drought. I don't know what he chooses tennis because he doesn't seems to take its seriously as we all know that tennis players are all passionate about the sports and not just play for the money. But Tomic is different, his very controversial indeed but I do hope that he can at least play for the Australian Open 2019 and let's see how he does this time.

Yeah I think the Australian Open will be his target to perform a lot better and maybe even challenge to make the 4th round or finals of the Australian Open. If he is able to achieve this then he could earn back some respect from the tennis fans and players. Tomic is one player to watch next year if he gets his head right as like I said he has shown that he can match it with the best when he is in form and firing. First lets see how he ends the year, maybe he could get another title under his belt heading into the 2019 season.

https://www.news.com.au/sport/tennis/nick-kyrgios-says-a-davis-cup-recall-for-bernard-tomic-would-be-great-for-australian-tennis/news-story/ea9ef967234b91f73a7e1ef0810bbc4b

So everyone is on the bandwagon now. I do hope that he won't get his fans disappointed because it seems that he is a good player for Australia tennis. Australia needs more depth so adding Tomic is not a bad idea after all.

I think there is no bandwagon even, it's only an admired emotions from the fans that dramatic finish. If he continue he's performance in the Australian open, maybe he could Garner another bunch of fans to support his campaign for another championships.

I totally agree with you mate, Tomic now needs to get back to playing at his best in Grand Slam tournaments like he was doing when he was in his late teens. He played well in a few Grand Slam tournaments early on but then faded away so if he can get back to that form then he would gain the respect back from the tennis public. Until then this win doesn't really gain that much respect right now.

I for one ain't on the bandwagon when it comes to Tomic lol and the same goes for Kyrgios as they win a tournament and we think okay now their heads are in the right place and then boom they lose it again and go down hill. So I'm waiting to see how Tomic performs in Grand Slam tournaments before getting on the bandwagon. Australia will most likely have a new ranked number #1 tennis player Alex de Minaur who will knock off Kyrgios as Australia's number #1. Now Alex de Minaur has his head in the right place and is a good player which could challenge next year for the Australian Open.

Oh wow, after 3 long years he finally won. LOL. It was really dramatic as he was behind in the first set and had to climb back and saves four match points to win the Chengdu Open. Isn't he the guy who says ""I just count my millions" for not qualifying to play at Australian Open? It was also a disappointment for Fabio Fogninii as he is attempting to became the first Italian to win 4 titles in one season.

Yes this is the guy that said "I just count my millions" lol I'm just hoping that he now takes tennis more serious because if he does he has shown early on in his career that he can match it with the best and be a top tennis player. Time will tell if he has changed his attitude. Well there is still time for Fognini to get that 4th title this season with many tournaments still left in the year and most top players not competing in most of them so his chances are high to achieve this.

Well just as I thought, Andy Murray will end this season early after competing in the Shenzhen and Beijing tournaments over the next two weeks if all goes to plan. He will not play in either of the remaining two Masters series events in Shanghai or Paris in October as he wants to get his body right for the start of the 2019 season. Nadal I think should also do the same end this season early to recover from a tough year.

Roger Federer already set the blue print on how to compete high level tennis by resting his body and choosing the right tournaments to enter. I think Andy Murray should do the same as well. Its one thing to fight psychologically but if your body is telling you a different signal then you really have to listen to otherwise you will just burn out and risk more injury. For me this want happens to Andy. He really wanted to make a comeback, but his body says no, but he still continues that's why ended up like this in 2018.

I agree as players start to get older and their bodies can't handle all the tournaments the players put their bodies through, they need to do what Federer has been doing for the past few years and rest up and not play in as many tournaments as they normally would. I actually would of thought that Murray would of taken the whole year off to get his body right for the 2019 season but he wanted to come back early and test out his body but clearly it shows that he isn't 100% fit and healthy so he has now made the smart decision to take a break and rest up and come back fitter and stronger next year.

I agree that Murray should have rested the 2nd half of the year. But being a competitor maybe he has that itch to comeback and play with those guys again. Also Novak also went  on a break goes on his comeback trail but it was not easy for him. Just my thought that Andy may have thought that he can replicate the success of Djokovic, but too bad it just make his injury worst.

When it comes to Murray it was expected he would not be able to participate in all the tournaments, given the beating his body has taken over the years. I'm glad he's made a wise, I would want to see a fit Murray at next years wimbeldon. When it comes to Nadal it'll be interesting to see if he withdraws too, we'll saw what his past injuries did to him this season, I hope he withdraws too and remains fit for next season.

Yeah it would be nice to see Murray fully fit and healthy next year as he has been one of the top players for a long time now and its good to see them all playing at the same time in the same year so hopefully with this rest, he should get back fit and healthy ready for the Australian Open in January where he does play very well. It will be interesting to see what Nadal does, the wise thing to do is do what Murray is doing and rest for the remaining of the year ready for the Australian Open. Next year could be one of the best years we will ever see as there is a lot of young talent coming through now which could challenge the veterans as the young talent now have some experience under their belts. Thiem is the one I really like for next year.

@vella85 -  Historically though, Nadal has been playing with all this knee injuries throughout his career so I wouldn't be surprised if he continue. But if he opted and forced himself to take a rest, then much better. Initially I think that Federer's grand slam was untouchable at least, but with how Djokovic got back and his will to win, I have no doubt that he will try to go after that record and surpassed Federer. He still has a good like 2-5 years of solid tennis career and I also don't see any movements in the top 3 spot.

Yes I also feel Nadal should take a break and heal himself for the long term, his desire to play despite injuries is simply outstanding. I'm partially not convinced Djokovic is the guy, there's no doubt he's one of the best athlete but his form is not consistent, and often when Nadal and Fedder are playing he's not the first one we choose to win. Then it's also true the current crop of players are not high quality, so Djokovic may have it easy.

Yes that is true my friend, well we shall see what Nadal does and if he does continue on playing for the rest of the year. Maybe he will pick the top tournaments that are left to play in and miss most of the others. Yeah Djokovic has shown that his got the will power to get back and win, I also think he has a solid 3-5 years left in him. He will need to be on top of his game for all these years as there is some good young talent coming through but I still think that the young talent has another year or so before they will be up there fighting it out for Grand Slam finals. Thiem looks the best to me and has a good chance next year if he can get his mentality right for big Grand Slam matches. So Djokovic still has all next year to get as many Grand Slams as he can and so can Nadal, maybe Federer before the young talent start to challenge for the Grand Slam titles. Lets just say its going to be an interesting 2-5 years from now in Men's tennis.
