Nice win of Zverev! Nadal will have some competition this year to win Roland Garros, but he is still the big favorite. I am curious to see what the odds will be for Nadal, probably not that high  Grin.

Dominic Theim is waiting for the victor of todays upcoming match between Denis Shapovalov and Alexander Zverev to see who he will face off in the finals of this tournament right before the French Open begins.
Alot of big names will be back to play in Roland Garros. Hopefully Roger Federer and Andy Murray will come back and be in full health to bring an exciting tournament in Paris this year. Grin

Yesterday Shapovalov almost lost versus Edmund. If it wasn't for the person who shouted during the serve Edmund would of returned that shot and not have gone into a tie breaker in the second set. But the chair referee didn't call it a lay and awarded Denis with the ace. Lips sealed

So its looks like Thiem vs Zverev for the Madrid Open. Zverev has a easy game to go an get past Denis Shapovalov 6-4 6-1. I'm sure the Thiem is riding high on his win over Nadal, ending Rafa's unprecedented 21 match unbeaten streak on clay.

Also Shapovalov, did set a record in the losing effort, becoming the youngest player to reach SF in Madrid. But I will go for Zverev here, I don't know but I have the feeling that Thiem will choke on this one. (This is just my opinion!)

Congrats to Zverev!!!. I knew that he has a chance to go and win the tournament and although others put him as underdog because of Thiem's win against Nadal, Zverev game is almost perfect because he hasn't drop a set in this tournament.

Unfortunately for tennis fans, Federer chooses not to play in the clay upcoming tournaments, indicative that he still wants to continue playing competitive. He needs to remain healthy and motivated that is why he's been skipping tournaments.

Good to see Djokovic win, we do hope that this is a start for him to get back and have confidence again.

Federer has announced, after his defeat in Miami, that he will not participate at Roland Garros 2018:
https://edition.cnn.com/2018/03/26/tennis/roger-federer-clay-french-open-tennis/index.html

As for the final in Madrid, I think Thiem is favorite to win to the title against Zverev, but should be a nice match to watch.
Its really understandable that Roger Federer will skipped the Roland Garros this year. We all know that clay is his weakness so he might as well rest his body an watch from the outside and just be a cheerer. ahahaha. This is one strategy that keeps Federer on top form, going on sabbatical and carefully choosing the tournament that he has a higher chance of winning. We have seen him getting the fruits specially 2017-2018, even reclaiming the top spot.

Novak Djokovic actually won a match today!
He beat Alexandr Dolgopolov and did it in straight sets in the Italian open earlier this morning.
I thought he was done and not going to go on with anymore tournaments(until the French starts in a week) after being defeated so badly in Spanish last week. Because from what I remember he was beat by a 50th seeded player and went down in straight sets.

Roma mi Amo! Wink

This is what he wrote on the camera after the match. Cheesy
He has been really struggling ever since he came back from his injury and I hope this win gets him back on track because he has been really struggling and this has made Federer and Nadal the only high profile names in Men’s tennis nowadays.

Well not this time I guess , he has been in great form and more than that if you defeat number 1 player when he is playing at his best on his favorite court I guess his confidence will be sky high . I hope he wins it because he deserves it Smiley
Next week we may see another Nadal v Thiem match in ROME .

Should be good match between Thiem & Zverev, both had great tournaments but Thiem had much tougher opponents to beat to get to the final. I am going for Thiem here because of their h2h. On this surface it is clean 3:0 in his favor. I am also eyeing doubles final and think to back Bryan brothers but for some reason Nitrogen Sports doesn't have this match in their offer.
Zverev has already won the first set of the game by 6-4 and he is currently leading the second set as well by 3-1. I know a lot of people were betting on Thiem to win since he was able to oust Nadal but Zverez might likely pull an upset.
Congratulations to Alexander Zverev for his win and this is the second time he has been able to win against Thiem, his first victory coming in the Round 16 of the Beijing Open in 2016.

This has been one of the best lead up tournaments to the French Open with Alexander Zverev and Dominic Thiem playing a great tournament and may be a great challenge for Nadal in the French Open as long as both players remain fit and healthy. It was looking like Nadal would be unstoppable but now he has some tough competition on his hands which is great to see. I'm really looking forward to the French Open and maybe this year we could see a different winner.

Dominic Thiem fell to the younger Zverev. So I guess what Babygun was saying is true.
It does drain on the older players like Federer and even Thiem only at 24 but you can see those long matches he had to fight for and come back from did a toll on him. And Nadal really tested him, not like Alexander who won all his matches in straight sets in this Spanish Open.
Watching Zverev lifting that trophy right now.
It is a spiral golden baton from the looks of it.
I like the French Open La Coupe des Mousquetaires and British Open championship cup.
They have something to hoist up by the winner.

Congratulations to Alexander Zverev on winning this one and looking forward to seeing him try and winning at Rolland Garros which will be more open without Federer taking part in this years tournament.

Just like last year , he skipped the whole clay season and its understandable because clay will drain your energy and push you to limits . It would make the next grass season difficult.
Coming to Thiem v Zverev , yeah Thiem is gonna lift the trophy if you ask me.

Nice win of Thiem! If he continues to play like that, than he can be a shadow favorite for Roland Garros. Thanks to the loss of Nadal, Federer is again nr 1  Grin.
This is Thiem’s third ever victory over Rafael Nadal who on the other hand has won against the Austrian six times. Thiem today advanced to the finals by beating Anderson in two straight sets

Nadal lost it in the second set. I saw him rattled since the first set and was hoping for his expected comebacks in these competitions. But he did not do it.
It was a slaughter at 6-3 games in the final frame and he did not recover.
Such a shame cause he was favored to win this at his home and win another title in Spain.
I think Theim new haircut made him win it. Cheesy

Thiem finally broke Nadals streak and now is looking strong even in set 2. I am a big Nadal fan and man this is scary , I hope Nadal finds a way through this and come out victorious but well Thiem is playing extremely well right now so its 50-50 I guess.

What a legend Nadal is as he has just won his 50th straight set on clay to break the long-standing John McEnroe record of 49 straight sets on clay. This record was one of the longest running records in Tennis which hadn't been broken for 34 years until now. Nadal has won 38 of his last 39 matches on clay and is now looking to win his sixth title in Madrid after taking his trophy hauls at Monte Carlo and Barcelona to 11 titles each. He looks unstoppable leading into the French Open.
I watched his form today and it was perfect against Diego Swartzmann.
There is no one who can beat this man on clay. And this being his home court it will be impossible to even win a set let alone a match when he is playing like he has been thru out this Spanish open in Madrid.
He will be facing Domnic Theim next and will have no problem passing him to face the next opponent in the round of the quarter-finals.
Watched Theim's match too and he is having trouble with pulling back his shot and is overshooting the ball outside the lines on the back court.

You are probably correct but on the other hand if I had to pick player which can hurt Nadal on this tournament it is Thiem. If he has his day he has enough power to win the match even against Nadal. I am not seeing that happening today, but I will not risk the money on Nadal at such low odds against player who can shoot trough anyone.

I am expecting a match where Thiem will be a better player in short spells of few games here and there and Nadal prevailing trough consistency after Thiem starts missing his shots.
