Also in the Miami tournament, Roger Federer will have to defend his first place in the atp ranking!
He will have to reach at least the quarter finals to stay in first place.

Given the current of Federer, I don't think it will form a problem to reach the quarter finals. I am curious to know if we will see, like in Indian Wells, a lot of early exits of the "bigger" names.

Yea I agree totally with everything said. But one argument being made is on the seeding. And that Serena should be amongst the top seeds due to her profile, despite the fact that she has been out of tennis for over a year. If she were a top seed, she wouldn't be facing top opponents early on. She would have a few games under belt and work her way up.

What about protected rating? I know that players which suffered injuries can use protected rankings on few tournaments. I would think that Serena has that option but she is waiting to use it after she manages to get some of the form back trough training. These tournaments are on her home ground I just think she decided to show herself and see where she is at the moment.

It would seem that Serena Williams is having a tough time getting back in form after her pregnancy. She got knocked out yesterday in the first round on the Miami Open. I guess stakes on her for next coming months should be done with caution. It's really not going to easy for her, as she has aged in the game, and also has become a mother. I will not put it past her to bounce back strong tho.
1. Yes, she needs more time and confidence to be back to her full form
2. Osaka is just playing the best tennis of her life right now , he would have beaten anybody in that first round match with that quality tennis.
Serena Williams is back playing since 2 weeks only , she didn't play tennis for almost one year so coming back is hard specially at his age now , we already saw her getting out from health problems and she comeback strong after that and dominate the tennis courts for long time , also we can not blame her for losing against Osaka who is playing his best tennis right now and was the winner of Indian wells tournament last week so she is very confident and strong . So for Serena she has not to feel shame for that loss .

Serena will get a hard time getting back in top form as before, but I don't rule her out for the upcoming grand slams. She will be highly motivated to show everyone that even after becoming a mother, she is still the best in the world.

I think she needs some time to come back her form but don't expect her old form. after a long time, she played so we also not expect more from her but i hope she will be back very soon. why should she feel shame actually we have to appreciate her effort.

I consider it as one of the greatest match. Del potro and Roger put everything on that match both were at there best form it's just that Roger fell short especially on that last set. Kudos to Del potro I never really thought he could win this tournament against Roger. Well this won't be the last for Roger for sure, and I hope that Del potro could continue on with this type of game he is playing now. He definitely a player to beat this year.

I agree with the above and would just like to add that I am very happy that Delpo managed to get the trophy. He has more than deserved it after such a performance vs. Federer. Especially if you take into account all his problems with wrist injuries in the last years. I wish him an injury free season and I have no doubts that good results will follow.

it was a spectacular match, the most beautiful of this 2018!
it would have been an epic match if 5 sets were played!
Del Potro has been very unlucky in his career, finally he can demonstrate all his value.
He can reach the podium in the atp ranking this year.

I am hoping that Rodger Federer will finish his career this year , I think it will be the first time that a player do that when he is number one , in the top of the world , for his legacy and for history I hope that he will do it this year , without no doubt he is the goat " greatest of all times" and I hope that we keep only the memory of him when he was on the top .

Yeah that's too bad, He can finish the match on service game 5-4, 40-15 but get broken and lost the match. He should retire obviously.

As per Roger Federer "..Retirement can wait". Retiring this year isn't in Roger's plan as of the moment. Well, if you watch (closely and clearly) Roger's game is still in a good shape or rather than a semi-prime shape. It's funny how you'd come up with such conclusion after losing one game, Have you seen how he dominates the tournament? It's just that, the ball is round, Sometimes you're on top and sometimes you're at the bottom. Even great players lose, to be honest.

It was my proposition for the retirement of Roger Federer at the first post but I didn't meant that he is over and he should retire , I only meant that he is playing fantastic at this age like no one else has done before and if he manage this year and I hope so to win a big tournament like Wimbledon or US open he should finish his career at the top level like nobody did before and that we keep in history that he stopped when he was on top . What ever that he will do in the end of the season he is anyway a living legend and the greatest tennis player of all times .

What do you mean retire? One match doesn't define what he's done for tennis. Most of us wanted him to him, unfortunately he's not his day. I still see him playing in the next year because he really have taken care of body very well.

I'm sure that he will continue to play tennis at the highest level and probably win trophies this year. Don't count him out yet.

I would like to see him play way longer. As long as he can perform on high level. Hovever the years are mounting up and I wouldn't be surprised if he decides to take a further cut in tournament number and decides to play just few of his favorite tournaments. Doesn't matter which ranking he has when he decides to stop. He will be the greatest anyway.

Imagine the situation with Federer let's say at 40 years deciding to play only half of master 1000 and GS tournaments and wining half of them. It would add to the legend even if he is not no. 1 any more.

I would also like to see Federer go on next year which if all goes well for the rest of this year, I think he will as he said after the Australian Open that he would like to return if all goes well. I think we'll see him play in less tournaments towards the end of the year. I'm hoping that he can win another French Open at least.

A small odd for tonight games for Miami tournament WTA table :
The game starts at 17:30 GMT so you have 30 minutes left to place your bet :
O.Dodin from France vs A.Riske from USA : both players are ranked over 100 with a small advantage for the French player but this is not a reason to be favourite in this game , the American player was in top 50 few years ago have more experience in this kind of tournament and also have the advantage of the crowd playing at home . I I'm sure of this win specially if you saw her winning the previous turn against on of the best talented players .
My prediction is Alison riske win with 1.50 odd return

Federer looked invincible throughout the tournament.. so was Del Potro but even with the player being in the form of their life its very hard for them to reciprocate the same while playing against FedEx. After the 2nd set tie breaker win for FedEx, I had a feeling that this could go to the distance as well. Feels a lil hard done by when you lose in the final set tie breaker. I think all the Masters tournament's and Grandslam should just let the players duel it out.. at least at the later stages. Great tournament from both of them and Im happy that Delpo is finally winning big tourneys. Going through injuries that nag throughout your career is hard. Hats off for him to keep fighting and winning.
I was tipping Federer to win once again but for the sake of competition, I think it's good that del Potro won too because it seems that Federer was very much invincible for some time now and now he has been brought back down to earth.
