Alcaraz v Dimitrov - Dimitrov did the job in 3 sets today. It was a match I saw and
I think Dimitrov is playing his best Tennis since a long time. He played some
stunning tennis and now faces Jarry.
I agree that Dimitrov played very good tennis yesterday and even though there was doubt that he would be able to beat Alcaraz especially when in the first set he failed to take it when he was already leading, and in the second and third sets he looked really good at serving so he got quite a lot of points from it, and with Alcaraz is eliminated so all the remaining players have an equal chance of winning, including Fábián Marozsán, the player with the lowest ranking in the quarterfinals.
Many of the top 10 players have been eliminated here, leaving only Andrey Rublev as the fifth seed remaining and yesterday he also managed to win against Tommy Paul which is quite convincing, could he be the champion of this tournament? Rublev is a player who has quite a lot of weapons but often finds it difficult to compete when playing in major tournaments.

...Sinner...Shelton...

I think Sinner at this point of the season is "tired" and not able to play the same tennis as usual.
He is struggling with injures and with not the perfect shape.
We have seen strong performance but... I don't think he is enough fit to play at "HIGHER" level in each tournament at least now. Probably he should improve physical condition in next years, he has a career ahead.

Shelton by the way is probably the next big player that could arose... This year was pretty disappointing against Djokovic but generally speaking he is able to play strong performances...

... Marozsan...

Another player that should be watched closely... is strong performances against big players are a "sign" Wink

Yes these youngsters eventhough Sinner is a youngster too but a lot of experience are ones
to watch I think. Shelton was very strong.

Sinner has a ticket into the ATP Masters too so he has yet to play that tournament.

Another player of high profile got beaten by a veteran of the game today!

Hurkacz vs. Zhang: As I expected, the match went over three sets. Both won their service games very often while the opponent was not being able to score a point. In the two tiebreaks one could see that experience and good nerves are important. So Hurkacz won this match. In the next round, that is the quarter-final, he will play against Marozsan, who surprisingly bowled out Ruud of the tournament.

Another disappointment I came across in today's matches between different players is the match between Tsitsipas and Humbert. From the first set onwards Humbert kept his dominance, and with the play Tsitsipas won the second set and it looked like he'll win the match, but Humbert took advance at the right time and won the match to reach the play against J.J Wolf.

Humbert is playing great lately and that was a great win over Tsitsipas who fought well
in the last set, Humbert was 3-0 ahead and it went to 5-5 but obviously Humbert won.

On Tsitsipas he recently sacked his coach and employed his Dad back again...which
is still not working IMO.

Other matches today:

Marozsan has beaten Ruud earlier

Korda is playing Cerúndolo

Sinner will be up against Shelton - Sinner @ 1.28 - my only bet today, I would love to back up
his tournament win last week with another...

Hurkacz plays Zhang

Ben Shelton won his match against Sinner in 3 sets. Last set ended with a tie-break and the American won 7:6(5). Shelton showed solid performance making Sinner the latest seeded victim in this tournament. Shelton will meet Sebastian Korda in the quarterfinal.

Among top seeds only Alcaraz is kicking so far...

EDIT: Actually Andrei Rublev (nr 5 seed) is still in the draw as well.

I got to see the last set, a very close affair and indeed a solid performance by Shelton.
Sinner made too many errors and Shelton just made less.

Irs looking very good now for Alcaraz to win the title, he plays Dimitrov tomorrow in the
second group of Round of 16.

Rublev plays Paul tomorrow too, thats a tough one to call, Rublev favourite @ 1.5 !

Ruud can't catch a break in tournaments bigger than ATP 250. He has made only 2 qf or better on a tournament bigger than 250 level. He is ranked top 10 in the world. Seems like one of the only few guys who's made it into top 10 while performing so poorly at big stage.

another match that is no less interesting and might be a surprise is Hubert Hurkacz vs Zhang Zhizhen, the home player, Zhang Zhizhen has the ability to create a surprise in this match because his game is quite solid, especially playing in front of his own spectators will provide extra motivation.

Zhang is definitely not to be underestimated. He has won against Gasquet and Etcheverry, who both have a lot of experience. After winning against Ruud at the US Open in round 2, he won the Asian Games with a good performance.  He has the home advantage and that gives him an extra confidence. I think the match will go over 3 sets. But Hurkacz has more experience and will win this match.

Fábián Marozsán, a player who this year also beat Carlos Alcaraz in the clay tournament Italian Open, for Casper Ruud losing to a player ranked 91st was certainly an unpleasant surprise but Fábián Marozsán is indeed quite tough when facing top players.
Jannick Sinner vs Ben Shelton, this should be a fairly long and close match but my prediction is that Sinner will still advance to the next round, and another match that is no less interesting and might be a surprise is Hubert Hurkacz vs Zhang Zhizhen, the home player, Zhang Zhizhen has the ability to create a surprise in this match because his game is quite solid, especially playing in front of his own spectators will provide extra motivation.

Next surprise at the tournament in Shanghai. Marozsan (ATP 91) bowled Ruud out in three sets and reached the quarterfinals. He only needed 2 match points and showed strong nerves. The next match will be against Hurkacz or Zhang.

Tsitsipas vs. Humbert: A underdog won here as well. But I am not surprised. Tsitsipas has not shown any permanent good performances this year.

Diego Schwartzman - Taylor Fritz

the h2h of these two athletes gave an advantage to Fritz, and also the odds were very low, something like 1.15 and looking at the performance of these two athletes, Schwartzman has a bad performance, with low performance in the service games and in the physical he also showed little physical resistance, with a history of being eliminated early in tournaments, I saw Fritz who is currently number 8 and was seen as one of the favorites to at least go far as the favorite to win this game in a good way. easy and without difficulties, and that's why I include him in my multibet bet, but to my surprise the guy lost, this defeat was really a surprise

I confess that when I saw the result of the 1st set I even thought that there was no reason for me to be worried, that everything would change in the next few minutes, I even stopped following the result of the game because I was very convinced that Fritz would win obviously, Even in tennis, there are rare cases in which a favorite with odds of 1.15 loses, although that doesn't mean he can't lose, but it's something difficult to happen, but when I go back to stake.com to see the status of my bet I come across therefore:

 Shocked

I lost my bet, in games with low odds like these I only do it when they involve good players against weak opponents and I place it in a multibet bet with high odds, but today I decided to do it this way because that would make it more challenging, but unfortunately I lost the bet. It's not something that harms me, but I was shocked by Taylor Fritz's defeat. the other tennis players won as expected, I'm talking about Rublev and Alcaraz

Thats the unlucky part, losing the bet placed on the underdog. Both had played really well and at it is a big upset for Fritz. Schwartzman played the best of his ability and winning the deciding set on tie breaker is not an easy thing.

Schwartzman vs. Fritz. Surprisingly, Schwartzman had won the first set. In set 2 Fritz won this set. In set 3, it looked for a long time as if Fritz would also win this set. But after 3:5 it got exciting again, Schwartzman came back into the match and won it in a tiebreak.

In contrast there was a short trial in the match between Mannarino and Rublev. Rublev had no big problems and will now play against Paul.

Earlier Korda beat Medvedev on two sets! Thats a dissapointing result from Medvedev to go out in
the round of 32. Medvedev was 2nd seed and obviously wasnt mentally ready to progress further
This is not something that often happens to Medvedev when he plays on hard courts where he has to be eliminated in the early rounds of tournaments, fatigue could be due to a fairly busy schedule, the next one eliminated was Khachanov from Dimitrov, and Fritz, who was competing against Schwartzman, lost the first set and it looks like this will be a three set match

Iga Swiatek has won the China Open 2023 title in Beijing! She eased past Ludmila Samsonova 6:2, 6:2. Iga made her bet on strong defensive play and it turned out successful as her opponent was making too many mistakes while trying to attack. Iga in turn made zero unforced error throughout the whole match!  Shocked
Iga Swiatek's performance in the final could be said to be perfect, she did not give Samsonova the opportunity to develop her game. Samsonova is of course very disappointed because this is her second failure this year in a major WTA 1000 tournament.

She deserves the win. After the Poland Open, this is the first time she had won the title. In most of the tournaments she used to reach atleast quarter finals and had been losing for a long. In the previous matches she used to fight top seeds and moves forward and finally used to disappoint losing against players that aren't expected to win. This time I had the feeling Samsonova would win the match and finally Iga Swiatek have won 6-2 6-2.

Well done to Iga, she is always going to be a threat to any player, eventhough she loses
to players she should be beating - kind of like Alcaraz sometimes.

Over at Shanghai Sinner is through to the round of 16 and now plays Shelton and
is obvious favourite to win that @ 1.27.

Interestingly Alcaraz is in the mix too and plays Evans today.

It would be interesting to see Sinner and Alcaraz meet again....

Yeah that's crazy.  When she is on she is dominant.  Looks like that's going to be the one girl Coco is going to have issues with during her career.  Saw some of the final and it was never really a good match from start to finish.

Swiatek definitely performed really well against Coco Gauff. It was really dominating performance from her as well. And I will also say that she performed really well in the final as well. She was able to win without almost any problem, to be honest. against Samsonova, she was supposed to be the winner. I don't think anyone was actually surprised to see the outcome of that match in the final. The final match was more dominating from her compared to the semi-final, to be honest. Congratulations to Swiatek for being able to win the competition final.

I guess that nobody thought that Swiatek would beat Gauff like that after she had trouble in the quarterfinal and Gauff was the one to finish her opponent off within no time. Swiatek struggled really hard as she lost the first set in the quarterfinal in the tiebreak and then was again in the tiebreak at 5:5, but took it down with two consecutive points. That's why I thought that this game would be much closer against Gauff. But she was on the fence of losing and then superbly went her way to the final and won that one again without any fear or close moments.
