Nothing much to say about this one, as you said this was his first match of the season after bad knee injury and we all have seen how some other great players had problems to return. Zverev needed a lot of time after breaking an ankle and Thiem never properly retuned and both are way younger than Čilić.

yeah, Thiem never properly continued playing tennis after injury
I am always having DelPo on my mind when hearing about injuries, pretty sure he would have 5+ GS's if not for so many injuries, even with all three top players playing at same time

off-topic, Djokovic is on vacation in Dubrovnik, as I can see, but not giving interviewes regarding Wimbledon
Delpo is one of my favorite players ever but his situation was different. He had a series of injuries on his both wrists and also something with knees. That was chronic and he was missing huge parts of tour. Guys I mentioned had more or less injury free careers and then just one bad injury after which they are getting back. It is mentally totally different problem.

Still remember how Delpo had to start playing backhand slice instead of his booming hits just to have a chance to play.

Wow, I thought Cilic has retired a while ago, at least he hasn't played for quite some time.

Well, he plays like it Grin
He got knocked out in straight sets by Flavio Cobolli, I actually had to Google the guy.

Looked so slow and out of the game, you could see that these are his first matches of the season.
He's 35 and was never a player with high stamina and physical durability so he's probably playing the last matches of his career.
He looked great first 3 points in the match Smiley You should have heard our local commentary, the guy said Djoković is playing his best tennis with 37 years so Cilić can surely play another 2 or 3 seasons of great tennis. That being said Cobolli played great tennis and if he was capable of producing that every match he would be top 20 player for sure, probably even top 10.

After the defeat from the Wimbledon Djokovic have decided to withdraw from the ATP Toronto Masters. He had decided to be off from the court for few more days, also mentioned that he always enjoyed playing in Canada and hope to return in the coming years. This time quarter finalist of Wimbledon Eubanks gets entry into the Toronto main draw.
Fatigue is the reason that I read in the online media, quite reasonable because the 2 Grand Slam tournaments are quite close, and where in both Grand Slams he made it to the finals, that drains his energy and emotions, so he has to start being selective about which tournament he will participate in.
Cincinnati Master, that means he can enter the United States? or is that just an estimate?
Last year Borna Coric managed to win this tournament, but looking at his performances after that I'm not sure he can repeat his success again, the competition nowadays has become tougher and it's almost difficult to predict who will win.

Yes, I saw Eubanks name in the entry list as well as Nick Kyrgios, it seems Kyrgios has recovered from his injury, and last year he successfully beat Medvedev in the second round of the tournament, and last year the champion here was unexpected because Pablo Carreno Bustas is unseeded player, I think Bustas will find it difficult to defend his title at the ATP Masters because all the top players will be present to compete and some players are progressing quite well like Rune especially Alcaraz and last name will be the most favorite.

I wonder will he be limiting the amount of tournaments he plays now, will he be concentrating
on Grand Slams and some tournaments on the lead up to them? He has done everything in the
sport its really about chasing records now I would say.

On Eubanks, he is currently playing Atlanta, and plays Martin tomorrow. He is seeded in
5th spot and has Fritz, de Minaur, Evans and Nishioka ahead of him as top 4 seeds, I really
would like to see how he progresses this week.

Vekić won her match vs Naef and Ćorić is in the lead vs Riedl. I don't really care much about the Hopman Cup (I think that no one really does), but it would still be nice to win it.

The last (only) time we won it was in 1996 (Ivanišević and Majoli), also vs Switzerland.
If I remember correctly, Switzerland actually forfeited late on in the doubles match, so a legit win would be nice this time.
The league of ladies competitive for significant titles is extremely challenges, but these are just tempting spots that ought to be passed without hesitation. Donna Vekić victory was fought well herself, she won and doesn't get a match in the competition. She is probably one of the few good contenders that record an impressive performance during the competition. She's an aggressive baseline, capable of hitting really hard the first serve which leads to producing aces. Talking about the Hopman cup, it's less important and not all sights pointing that direction, all eyes on the bigger picture.

ATP Umag starts today, it's a small 250 series but it's close to where I live so I attend every year.

Last year we had Sinner and Alcaraz in the semis and the final which was great to see live, this year the lineup is a lot weaker - especially after Rune withdrew.
The first 2 seeds are Lehecka and Sonego - which is quite terrible Grin

I do hope to see Čilić and Wawrinka live - but for that they'd have to reach the semis.

Well, you shouldn't feel disappointed, both Lehecka and Sonego are solid players, very high level, I'd love to see them in action.

Against Zverev the winning is just simple. There is no big fight and all. The match had ended in two sets with the score 6-2 6-3. In the semifinals Rublev had experienced a tight competence as Cerundolo kept on attacking as two sets reached the result on tie breaker and the final set favoured Rublev. The finals which should've been a tough one for Rublev once again ended in an easier way as the winning happened 77-63 6-0
You can see that Andrey Rublev in the ATP 250 and ATP 500 tournaments is quite strong and stable his achievements are very different when it's the ATP 1000 or the Grand Slam, and Zverev hasn't put in anything impressive since his injury, Cerundolo sometimes inconsistent and Casper Ruud who was expected to put up a tight fight as this was also his favorite surface missed a lot of chances, the Swedish Open is Rublev's second title of the year.

The ATP Swiss Open was won by Argentine Pedro Cachin and this was his first ATP title, not an easy match for Cachin because his opponent Ramos Vinolas was quite good on clay, Cachin found it easier to get the second set because Vinolas got injured and the decisive set again became interesting because Vinolas looked recovered and managed to take back the games that had been taken by Cachin but the Argentinian managed to break back Vinolas' games in the final games of the match

Rublev swept Ruud off the court easily (relatively) 7:6, 6:0. The Norwegian was only resisting Andrei's big forehand in the first set. In the second, Rublev turned GOD MODE on with super hard and precise shots mostly down the line demolished Ruud. This and also the slippery court after the rain made the Norwegian surrender. Well deserved win for the Russian! Congrats to Rublev!

Hamburg set to start tomorrow, some big names on the list: Zverev, Ruud, Rublev, Musetti, Cerundolo.

Yup, he destroyed Zverev a few days ago as well.
He's the inform player to beat in Hamburg - he'll be my favorite for another trophy there.

Ćorić won against Riedl with ease, so Croatia won the Hopman cup without having to play the doubles match. Congrats both to him and Donna.

Meanwhile back on the clay courts...

Semi finals in Bastaad Sweden sees Ruud on his favoured surface face up to Musetti
a close match this but Ruud is favourite.
Cerúndolo faces Rublev, another close one but Rublev should win that, interestingly all top
4 seeded players have made it to the semis, Ruud being #1.

Over at Gstaad Switzerland its Ramos-Vinolas v Kecmanović who is second seed and my
favoured one for this this semi.
Second semi is Cachin v Medjedovic but no idea how to pick a winner eventhough Cachin
is favourite.

The final today at Bastaad is as expected between Ruud and Rublev. Ruud despatched
Musetti in 2 sets while Rublev took the 3 sets to take the win. I'm going with Ruud to win today.

Over at Gstaad its a Cachin v Ramos-Vinolas final, both won their semi finals in 2 handy
sets, No clue about todays winner, Cachin is slight favourite but Ramos-Vinolas is
a good bet @ 2.25 I think.

Well they are two .ore dead bets! massive win by Rublev indeed especially the 6-0,
thats a strange result for Ruud not to win a game.

And the favourite won in Gstaad over three sets.

Just looking up the line up for tomorrow at Hamburg and Cachin and Rublev are
scheduled to play, I wonder if they can carry their form over to Hamburg, I'll wait and see.

The Atlanta Open also kicks off tomorrow, some well known players in particular
Eubanks will be playing that!

Really entertaining match I watched yesterday: Hopman Cup Belgium v Spain (Alcaraz v Goffin). Goffin was up a set (6:4) and leading 2:0 in the second. Yet Alcaraz managed to come back and win the second set 6:4 and then match tiebreak! Goffin was really close to winning and that would have been a shocking result!

At WTA Palermo, interesting match between tournament 1st seed Kasatkina and home star Paolini. Paolini defeated the Russian in three sets 6:4, 4:6, 6:3 and has good chances of winning the title. At the other WTA 250 tournament this week in Hungary there are no big names playing. Ladies are chilling after Wimbledon.  Cool

Goffin was close to an upset but in the end Alcaraz won. Goffin is a talented player and he was able to defeat Federer, Nadal and Djokovic one time, but in the end he never really broke through; his best results on a grand slam are the quarter finals.

If we are talking about Djokovic, no doubt that he has that mentality to come back strong. There are games that I think he deliberately lost the first set, and then come back strong in the next succeeding set to win.

But with the rise of Alcaraz and him relegating to number 2 spot, Djokovic will have to dig deeper now. The thing is that he is not the young player that he is. So if he wanted to maintain that top form or at least fight the young guys in the tournament, Djokovic will really have to be focus and his mind should be sharp as ever and have the positive mentality that he can still get that 1 Grand Slam.

Undoubtedly, Djokovic will need to exert tremendous effort in reclaiming the pinnacle of world tennis. He also knows that very well. He is going up against the best of the world. He should also realize that he is getting all day by day. So he will have to do everything quickly. He does not have too much time left in his career. Even though I think he has achieved almost everything that he wanted in his career, he might want to have some more achievements. Novak Djokovic, getting one more Grand Slam in his career, does not actually look very impossible, to be honest. If anything, it is still very possible.
