I am not thinking about the election because there will be no change in central government. The current government will remain in place. However, if India does not play in the upcoming Asia Cup, then there is a doubt whether Pakistan will participate in the World Cup. And bilateral series cannot be expected. ICC has to come forward as mediator in such situation and take strict decisions if necessary. Otherwise it seems quite impossible to expect a simple solution to this issue.

I doubt that in the next 6 years a bilateral series between these two team will happen. The present government is most likely to win the central election which is scheduled to happen next year. I have zero hopes for now! The only option available is to watch these two teams play against each other in a ICC tournament. Already there is doubt whether India will be playing against Pakistan in the Asia cup.

Revenue is not a big deal in this case. If two adjoining countries who are top ranked in cricket particularly in Asia do not appear in international tournaments due to their rivalry with each other then the tournament will not be successful. The ICC will get into more trouble. There is still a long time to change the decision and find the alternative one. I think both countries will agree to come forward and will try to make it successful.

Well.. I understand. For teams such as Sri Lanka and West Indies, it will be difficult to find enough quality players to have separate teams for both tests and limited overs. But in that case, test matches involving these teams are not always competitive. Perhaps we need to limit test cricket to the top 5-6 countries then? Apart from the pig-4, I believe that Pakistan and South Africa are also capable of playing test cricket. But what about the other 3 tier 1 teams? I am talking about Sri Lanka, West Indies and Bangladesh. These three can be relegated to tier-2 along with Afghanistan, Ireland and Zimbabwe.

@TheGreatPython there was a time when I used to love watching test matches and believe me those 5 day’s were really exciting but ever since T20 came I lost my love for test cricket, however I believe that ICC should organise more day and night test matches as people are yet keen to see those but besides that I feel there’s very little demand left for this format.


@Sithara007 I strongly feel that in the long run we’ll definitely have different team’s for different formats, as this will allow the team’s to include more specialists but you’re also right that other small team’s won’t be able to have different set of squads for different formats meaning they’ll always continue to be at an disadvantage in comparison to other big team’s.

^^^ For test and limited overs cricket, there is not much overlap in the fan base. And this is the reason why I have always argued for having separate teams for both the formats. A lot of people argue that if the same team plays test cricket along with limited overs at the same time, then viewership will go down. I don't think that is the case. Test cricket is mostly watched by middle-aged and elderly people and they don't necessarily watch T20 or ODI formats. It may help the national boards to maximize their revenue. At least the pig-4 can do this, as they can create separate squads for T20 and test.

I absolutely agreed about this and want to add some more things in next few years we will have no charm for test format in many countries and just top four will be enjoyed this because they have good sponsors for this and their system is also allowed them to have luxury like these others will surely suffer or even can exit from this because this is not profitable for them in long run and now from here ICC needs to do some revolutionary changes which will help them for doubling their revenue even have big market for the cricket as well just work on few things which helps new countries, and they will be able to have better facilities and structure for this all.

In test The Ashes, Trans-Tasman and BGT are enough for them to have good profit and viewership others needs to easily exit and enjoy this new shorter format for better life.

Test viewership is declining for the past one or two decades and hardly anyone watches test cricket especially when team outside the pig-4 play. The only test series that are of interest to viewers are Border-Gavaskar (India vs Australia), Trans-Tasman (Australia vs New Zealand), Ashes (Australia vs England) and any potential India vs Pakistan series. Outside these, test cricket is pretty much dead. T20 (especially the franchise leagues) is what attracted viewers back to cricket. For every 1 fan who watch test cricket, there are 10 who watch T20. It is the preferred format for the younger generation.

Agreed, cricket lovers prioritize test format cricket in which it is possible to see the real game of the players. With most of cricket fans, the time is a big problem. For the same reason other format of cricket have taken the place. However with the involvement of few teams into test cricket it is possible to watch some good cricket. We don't know how long this continues, because today we were able to see three T20 league taking place simultaneously. BPL, BBL ans SA20.

Why Test Cricket is Important for ICC?

ICC would not let test cricket diminish as it does make a good amount of money when Australia and England play against each other. Those two are the only nation where test cricket still gets a good amount of online, offline and ground viewership. The Indian subcontinent is more into T20 & ODI as we love the excitement and close ending. As the maximum viewership comes from India the ICC does not al ot a test bilateral series. Still, these countries have to play bilaterally in order to qualify for the test world cup.

Why is India VS Pakistan important for ICC?

I agree ICC makes huge revenue when these two teams play against each other. That being said ICC cannot make them play more than two games in a tournament. Asia cup is not an ICC event it is an event of the Asia cricket council which is independent of ICC but falls under its jurisdiction. The current chairman is Jay Shah who is an Indian and if he has said that India won't go to Pakistan then it will not. The match between these two sides will happen in a neutral venue, most probably UAE.

It will never happen as India does not care about Pakistan cricket. India also does not want to play with Pakistan as India does not need revenue from those matches. BCCI is in a stronger position as India is now and might remain the biggest cricketing nation.

Those who are true cricket lovers must give importance to Test cricket. But the big hurdle here is time. To enjoy a Test match you have to put your work aside. Besides, this cricket has become more difficult due to the fact that it lasts for a few days. Since time is a major constraint, it is clear to everyone that the outlook for this cricket is not good. Besides, there is no interest in this cricket anywhere except a few countries.

Audience interest in Test cricket is decreasing day by day while T20 cricket is gaining a large place in the minds of the audience.Test cricket organized for five days cannot give the same amount of joy that T20 spectators can give in a very short range, but it has become a cause of people's irritation. In test cricket you can't enjoy five days long but to enjoy the fun you have to leave your daily routine and enjoy the fun of cricket. On the other hand, T20 matches of only 40 overs between two teams are over in a few hours and the spectators can enjoy themselves to the fullest. So people's interest in Test cricket is decreasing day by day.

Test playing countries: Australia, India, Pakistan, New Zealand, Sri Lanka,  South Africa,West Indies, Bangladesh, Zimbabwe .

These few countries have only qualified to play Test cricket and the rest of the countries have not qualified to play Test cricket. So think for a moment that the popularity of Test cricket will be limited to only nine countries, the rest of the countries are very popular for the T20 format.

As mentioned, T20 cricket is the future. Very few countries were able to spend on test format cricket which is one reason and another thing cricket boards too weren't interested in making the test format cricket survive, giving opportunity for the new teams.

Whether it is the top teams or the bottom ones on the test lineup, players performance were measured through test format cricket that is being played within the countries, like the county and club matches.

I totally agreed with you regarding this now it's already lost his charm long time ago and in near future we have no chance for the test format to have any positive development because mostly peoples have no time for this specially in subcontinent region which is currently main hub of the cricket even Australia and England are also having good fan base, but now things are completely change, and we are going into new era of this game with the new formats like T20i which is the future.
 
But, most chances this test format will be survived and have good time to stay in progress with the help of top countries which are still spending good amount for the development of youths for this format which is also good because we still need this all for few more years as well.

Test cricket is never going to get better. And by that, I mean test cricket is never going to get back the popularity or fame that it once had. Right now, even if people have lots of free time, they still do not want to see test cricket because people know that it actually might be pointless in the end because after 5 days it can obviously be a draw.

As far as I know, just cricket is actually mandatory in every series. It was probably done from the last year. But I am not sure though. I do not see test cricket being an important part of cricket now. And I believe cricket will progress a lot faster without a test format.

If several leagues start at the same time, it can create a major disruption in international cricket. Also a player will not get proper honor which will never bring anything good. But it is very clear that all these leagues are hiding Test cricket. Test cricket has declined only because of the T20 league. If test matches can be conducted along with international matches, test cricket can also get better. Besides, it may not be bad if Test cricket keep mandatory in every series.

T20 leagues and T20I is the future of cricket no matter what good or bad they are bringing in the cricket. India despite the hub of T20 league is not performing good in T20I format specially when they have to play outside India. If other teams have understood well through IPL then why india hasn't understood other teams via IPL?

The existence of more leagues give way for the emerging players as well as give chance for the able players who doesn't get chance to prove their ability to the world. By the time it is to be noted, that the importance of international matches and the core have been missed. Test matches and ODI matches haven't got disturbed out of these leagues. Recently India wasn't able to perform good in the T20 World Cup and the reason behind them was the players involvement into T20 leagues and opponent teams have well understood about the players of India through these regular tournaments.

Cricket is much more centered around international tournaments rather than League cricket. So having multiple leagues going on in cricket is obviously a problem. First of all, it causes problems in the international arena which is the most important arena for cricket.

But I feel like there is going to be a transition in cricket. It is going through a transition period right now. The leagues are going to be getting much more importance and popularity compared to international cricket. And after that, it is going to be the same scene like football. The only importance international cricket is going to get is the world cup.
