I'm not sure there was a single sole on the planet that understood what the heck was going on with the Falcons last night.  Talk about coming out of no where.

In other news, for a Bears fan such as myself..I'll never have that feeling again at a draft.  At least for the evening, I got to dream like no other, got the guys I wanted, I mean the #1 pick in a year where the QB class is strong and you needed one.  Then getting on of the 3 stud WRs, this team is just getting more exciting by the day.  It's a very unfamiliar feeling.  Cheers to ya'll.  Have a good weekend!

Falcons GM Suggests Michael Penix Jr. Could Sit '4 or 5 Years' Behind Kirk Cousins

The Falcons pulled off the biggest stunner of the 2024 NFL draft so far, selecting Penix with the No. 8 pick. The move came roughly a month-and-a-half after they signed QB Kirk Cousins to a massive four-year, $180 million contract.

In '4 or 5 Years' Michael Penix Jr. will be 28+ years old.  Cheesy

I imagine NFL owners can't fire their general managers during the draft, right? It hasn't happened before? I mean, drafting an injury-prone quarterback in the first round after signing Cousins to a $100 mill guaranteed contract is completely insane, beyond the realm of brain dead.
Arthur Blank the owner of the Atlanta Falcons was on the draft room when the pick was made, I noticed because I thought the same as you, if I saw my GM giving 180 millions out of my money to the most overpaid QB I have ever seen and then try to use my highest pick to get a QB, I will fire him on the spot.

Now I feel sorry for the kid because now the pressure to perform is going to be enormous, because unless he is at least at the level of Aaron Rodgers then the pick will be a complete waste, and even then it would still not be the optimal path, for the reason that they will miss the window in which they can pay their QB peanuts and create a super team around him.

I will also take the time to congratulate whoever is the agent of Kirk Cousins, that guy can really make a deal.

Six quarterbacks selected in the top 12 screams desperation, and it's not like this year's QB class is anything special outside of Caleb Williams.
Without a doubt, after the draft the talking heads were comparing the current QB class against the 83 QB class, which is just ridiculous.

Still another factor which could have held great influence on what happened was the record level of injuries we saw last year, and teams could not help but to try to get some insurance against it.

"4 or 5 Years" is just him being diplomatic, they will be lucky to get 3 good years out of cousins before age takes him down and a few years behind a QB like cousins will give them a Franchise QB for the forseeable future so it looks like a great move to me.

All these tard coaches that run out a rookie QB from the draft are killing the qb's as well as the teams chances for years to come.

Greenbay does it right and the other teams need to learn from them rather than saying they keep getting "Lucky".

NFL experts in this thread, how can we make money from this? Please share your best bets heheheheh.

Bet on the Chiefs.  Cheesy

Man I really tried to give the whole UFL thing a go but the games are just at highly inconvenient times and without recognizing any of the players, I just haven't managed to get into it yet. To its credit, its a lot more like the NFL than I had imagined; none of that wacky XFL stuff. Just a few new rules to move the game along faster & reduce chances of injury. Still better than college tho, IMO.

Biggest issue afaic is the multiple networks they have the games on, its a major fucking pita to get all the games, its almost like they don't want people to follow the league.

And yes agreed its way better than college which it is directly competing with.

I personally hate college because the players are basically slaves.

It’s not competing with college, but it’s also not trying to. College is 18-22 year olds on avg. The UFL as far as I can tell is filled with 22-30+ aged former college players (not good enough to go to the NFL). College football is also INSANELY popular and that’s never going to change. Also the top college teams would WAX every UFL team with ease. All the major programs (Michigan, Alabama, USC, Notre Dame, LSU, OH St, Clemson etc) are all driven by future NFL players and stars far better than any UFL player. The UFL is focused on being an option when football (college and NFL) are on break.which is what they have to do as they can’t compete and have failed trying time and time again..so they don’t try to which is smart. I’m all for the UFL, but it’s def boring as hell to me. Have watched a few games so far and man..tough for me.

As for being “slaves” College football players on scholarship get tuition, room and board paid for as well as a stipend on top of that. Leaving college with no deep debt is a pretty nice head start in to the workforce. Also the connections made playing help many get jobs. However I agree that is not enough, thankfully there’s NIL now. The upcoming number 1 pick in the draft Caleb Williams (headed to my bears) made an estimated 10 million in NIL money, and I believe that’s over just a 2 year span. So at least they can get paid now. Step in the right direction. Also, no one is forcing them to play right.

@Hueristic. Agreed. His success has caused him to have forgotten how he has arrived in his success. This is a very strange behavior. However, he has a new young girlfriend. This might retire him hehehehe.

In any case, NFL draft has odds for betting in Duelbits! It might also be available in your favorite sportsbooks.

What Blank didn't say was that he and his top lieutenants had voted on the team's next head coach, ranking each candidate.

Bill Belichick didn't even finish in anyone's top three.

Good, he needs to sit for awhile and look in the mirror.

I have been disgusted with his hiring decisions and player choices the last few years and it was obvious he has drank his own koolaid and decided to rather admit he's made mistakes he continues to keep doubling down on bad players (which he is over paying massively) when he has better options.

News update, Stefanie Diggs was traded to the Houston Texans. According to many news articles, he is a drama queen. However, with him we might witness another good season for the Texans and with CJ Stroud becoming a strong candidate for MVP during NFL 2024 regular season hehehe. Fantasy managers, will CJ Stroud be your qb1?

Star wide receiver Stefon Diggs has been traded from the Buffalo Bills to the Houston Texans, the Bills announced on Wednesday.

Buffalo receives a 2025 second-round draft pick in exchange for Diggs, while the 30-year-old heads to Texas along with a 2024 sixth-round pick (No. 189 overall) and a 2025 fifth-round pick.

News update.

It appears that the Baltimore Ravens is very annoyed on their loss against the Chiefs in the AFC conference championship hehehe. They traded for a player who will certainly help Lamar if he is on the peak of his menstrual cycle hehe. There cannot be an explanation why he did not perform similar to many of the games in the regular season and the post season games before the AFC championship game.

However, Derrick Henry does not appear to be very happy for the trade in Baltimore.

Derrick Henry is bound for Baltimore, just as the two-time rushing champion expected this offseason. However, Henry admits that it could've been an ideal situation for him to stay home -- not in Tennessee, but rather in Dallas.

I think any time that a player is traded that they always have teams that they wish they could have gone to, or be playing for, and often times that includes teams that are close to their hometowns or thier favorite teams growing up or whatever.  Derrick Henry knows that he's going to a very good team where he could play a very big role in potentially bringing them a championship, so I kind of doubt he's "upset" about it, but we shall see.

On the changes of certain rules for the new season, what teams does everyone speculate would become better as a consequence of these changes and for what type of players these teams presently have? Also, will these changes influence the NFL teams on drafts and playbook tactics or will it be considered minor changes?

If these changes are not minor, it appears the more favored NFL players might become smaller, less strong, but faster and more difficult to tackle.

The NFL has banned the hip-drop tackle, source said. The Competition Committee was unanimous on it.

#NationalFlagFootball

How do they expect defenders to tackle from now on, like really? I understand it can lead to some nasty injuries but that's part of the game, freak accidents happen. This is dumb.

edit;

and we have the gay xfl kickoff thing approved too...

It's amazing how lame the game can be sometimes.  In the early days of professional football the two leagues didn't have so many injuries.  Padding was minimal and the players wore leather helmets.  The gear they wear these is use more like weaponry than personal protective equipment.  The speed of the game has increased, but I think that's also a function of the more secure padding.

I often wonder what the game would look like if the league were to use Rugby style padding and helmets.

Trust me when I saw they have better protection than they ever have.  The old school leather helmet times, many I'm pretty sure we could build a team here on btalk and kick their asses lol.  Okay, maybe not..but the athletes of today are a million times more athletic, strong etc.

I am all for somewhere in the middle.  We have to keep guys as safe as possible but not make the game too "pussy-ish".

@morvillz7z. I will not be worried. This is very much similar to the decreasing viewership and ratings on movies because of the woke agenda. The movie industry is slowly removing themselves from this to increase back viewership and ratings again hehehe. I speculate if the ratings on the NFL go down because of these changes, we can be quite certain that they will also return to the old roughness of the game.

@ChiBitCTy. On the Chargers fans, do they have some of them left supporting the team? I am only joking hehehe, however, the Chargers do not have a Stadium that they call their very own. Their real fans are in a city 1 hour away in San Diego.

In any case, this is a transcript about a conversation on Justin Herbert and should fantasy managers be worried about him. I reckon he might shock everyone. They will not win the conference but new coach argument implies that they will enter the playoff.

I still call them the San Diego chargers, I am having a hard time shaking that lol.  They may have to share a stadium, but it's the nicest one in the league.  I'll share a stadium over the pos dump that is solider field any day.  Though we will be getting a new stadium sometime this decade..I wish it would be at the Arlington Heights land the Bears bought from the old race track company, but they can't come to an agreement on taxes w/the city council apparently. Ridiculous as it's a perfect location.

Tabloid news update.

It appears that Bill Belichick is very happy with his dating life as a 71 year old man and he might not have the motivation to find another job in the NFL as a head coach for this year hehe. There was also an article mentioning that said Kyle Shanahan would accept Bill Belichick in his team as a defensive coordinator, however, this call was not answered. I am quite certain Belichik would only accept the offer if Shanahan offered Belichik his job hehehehheee.

Bill Belichick appears to be back on the dating scene.

The former Patriots coach, who mutually parted ways with the team in January after 24 seasons together, was seen having dinner with an unnamed brunette at Contessa Italian restaurant in Boston, according to a photo obtained by Deuxmoi, a pseudonymous Instagram gossip account.

It came after his split from his longtime girlfriend, Linda Holliday — who is the president of Belichick’s foundation — in September 2023.

Source https://nypost.com/2024/03/18/sports/bill-belichick-spotted-with-mystery-brunette-clearly-a-date/

I hear Robert Kraft gave him the number to his massage therapist and that's how it all began.  Okay I'm just kidding but good for Bill, that guy is wound tight as can be.  My guess is though that he only stays out for a year.  I cant see him retiring until he's like at least 80.  It's going to be odd not having him in the league this year.

In other news, I'm on cloud 9 as a Bears fan right now.  @BBC.. have to disagree with your take on Keenan Allen and Mike Williams.  The Chargers didn't want to get rid of either of them, they were in cap hell and had no other choice but to try and get keenan to restructure and had to drop Williams due to such a large cap hit.  Chargers fans are livid.. I mean I get it and don't at the same time.  Seems like a bit of mismanagement when it comes to the finances.  Keenan is a great fit in Chicago as the number two or three option and will come in as a long time vet and help a rookie QB grow.  I mean even if he gets hurt week 3, we gave up a 4th...and the Bears could still very well darft a WR coming up.  Williams also hurt often but he was pretty heavily desired before signing with the Jets.  If both can stay healthy, and I know thats a big if, they are gunna ball out.
