Someone drafted Gronk last year, funny thing is it was right before I was going to. Smiley

Actually not a bad idea by both of you guys. I was pretty sure that he was going to come back. Gronk is famous for not wanting to do the workout and even faked some of them, which is bold to say the least but when you’re the best Tight End ever, I suppose you get a bit more ballsy (not caring all that much if he gets caught).

It's fine, you can get him this year. Get Brady too while you're at it.

(actually I haven't been following NFL at all the last few months... for all I know Brady unretired again)

I take it that it was you who drafted him? Again, depending when you did,not a bad idea.

As of right now, both are still retired, but stay alert lol Honestly though if I had to bet, I’d bet a lot that are both now officially done. Sadly.

Same for me. Didn't show up here for months.. Thanks for tagging!
I'm still interested but bear with me I will ask some questions because I am an absolute noob in building these fantasy teams  Roll Eyes
Do not worry some of us were still noobs not long ago and even then I still make mistakes, last year I drafted Brian Robinson after he got shot just because I had no idea what Yahoo meant by the NFI status, which means Non-Football Related Injury, so I had him on Injury Reserve for weeks until I could finally play him, so I wasted that pick on the draft of last year.

Lol, that wasn't too bad of a draft pick actually, I've seen much worse.  I had a work draft back in 2013 ( I always remember the year because of Jamaal Charles who won me the league with just an insane year or numbers) and one of the people in our league, I want to say she was the third pick, drafted LaDainian Tomlinson, who had retired like two seasons earlier lol. I mean she had to physically go out of her way to type in that name to pull him up.  Since he wasn't "officially retired" he was still available to choose from. lmao, so yeah, I've seen worse.

Similar to what someone in the thread would say, it appears @South Park brought us a new victim, I mean, a new participant!

Welcome @seek3r!

I hope you are not right at the end of the season. Will come back to this post then..  otherwise I will ofc behave very quietly! Cheesy

Let me figure out something:
The system behind Bestball is that we build our roster at the beginning and it is not possible to change it afterwards for the whole season right?
Actually quite nice because it saves a lot of time, the other way around it can also go totally wrong if you choose the wrong picks.

Damn, I have not read this thread for some time since real life has been kind of intense lately and I even missed the whole draft for the first time in like 30 years or so, and even if the activity on the thread has been on the low side I am surprised to see NFTs could become part of our new league.

All what I can say about it is if that is the direction that we will take then I am all-in.

And about whether to have a 10 or 12 player league, @seek3r showed interest on joining the league some time ago, if they are still interested we may only need one more person to reach 12 players this season.

So I like the Idea behind Best Ball, As you all know I pm people that forget to set their lineups or have last minute scratches.

I don't know how injuries are handled though, if your QB gets knocked out for the season your just boned? Or your kicker like butler last year? I had to use a rostor spot last year for 2 kickers most of the year and that sucked. but you need those points each week and those are positions you don't normally draft 2 players in. Come to think of it TE as well if you lose that position its not as bad as QB or K but can ruin your chances.

Thinking about this I guess the drafting strategy would be way different.

You guys that have played it want to chime in on these thoughts?

Also I would have no problem doing 2 leagues this year of differing formats (except ppr) and think it would be fun to do a early draft on one (bestball maybe) and a late one after pre season for our main one.

@nutildah... so it is a league NFT/Ordinal that you're planning? I think that would be sweet. I'm not a huge NFT guy by any means ( I think they are a lot of potential utility, but aren't being used for that kind of stuff) but I would like to see one made maybe.  Be kind of cool having one for each member of the league, or maybe for just the winner, or both..curious to hear your ideas.

So in 2014 I registered all the NFL team names as Counterparty tokens (except for BEARS b/c that one was already taken) and tried to run a game where peeps buy the token of the team they think is going to win the Super Bowl, and then if that team wins they can cash in their token for a share of a prize pool. The main problems were:

 - there was almost no crossover between Counterparty users and NFL fans, and
 - despite there being a DEX involved, the game was still dependent on me to honor the prize payouts.

I think this time around it would be much more successful. Am still theorizing how best to execute it.

Having a full-on fantasy league with tokens for individual players would be extraordinarily expensive, even if transaction fees come down; not to mention potential legal issues from likeness rights and all that.

It would be fun as hell though. I could do it on Dogeparty for a fraction of the cost but it would take days to create all the draft-able player tokens  Cheesy

You could execute player swaps via the wallet DEX & buy and sell players for DOGE, but points would have to be calculated manually. It could be automated using their API but damn it'd be a huge hassle, basically re-creating via blockchain what a fantasy football platform already does instantly. The upside is you actually _own_ your players. That's about it.

Oh wow, so I wasn't even close in my guess as to what you were referring to lol. I have to be honest, I'm not that sharp when it comes to cryptography and all aspects outside of the main stuff (what's a blockchain, a satoshi etc ), but this sounds fun to me.  Anything football /fantasy football and crypto...I'm always going to be all ears.

On a side note, let's say none of that ends up being implemented, it would be cool to make NFTs for league winners, maybe a weekly NFT for high scorer , stuff like that.  Sound interesting at all?

Damn these Fantasy Teams look like a lot of fun.. I dont have any experience with this but if I'm right you are using the Fantasy Football Manager from yahoo?

Would like to know if its possible to get on board for the next regular season?

We really should do 12 teams.  It's much more fun that way.

@morevillz7z...  I looked in to best ball leagues one time because I kept hearing it being talked about on the fantasypro's podcast, but I didn't seem fun to me for some reason, I just can't remember why.  That said, I'm a team player and typically always up for any league, so I'll probably be interested in doing whatever you decide on.

@nutildah. I also got similar reactions in the meta subforum. They were not calling me a scammer, however. But what they do not yet understand is that with the rising popularity of AI to produce text and images, we would not know if the people we are interacting on the internet with are AI or real people. This might then bring a rising popularity for digital signatures usage and NFT usage to prove that it was you, the person, who posted a text or shared an image on the internet.

In any case, for my compute cluster, I do not have the budget for 500 Atari Lynx IIs hehhehee.

Our own NFL fantasy league NFT profile pictures? I would be happy to get one! To have NFTs as profile pictures to flex would certainly bring some fun back in the forum.

I agree but when I tried to float the idea of forum NFTs I immediately got called a scammer... Seeing as how the Forum NFTs I made are just avatar pictures on a NFT, however, it wouldn't be any different than your regular avatar, lol.

I thought it was a pretty cool idea because unlike traditional picture NFTs, the NFT image changes to whatever your current avatar is.

If we had our own fantasy league profile pictures it would make it appear that we are part of an exclusive group hehehe.

If only signature campaigns were not very strict in requiring partcipants to use their profile pictures.

That's true. I see some people in my campaign wearing their own avatar, maybe I should ask for that privilege.

There is a way to set up a Discord server where you have to own a certain NFT in order to participate. I could give them out to league participants and we could have our own special chat room. However I reckon this thread right here suffices. Then there's always league chat as well.

In any case, my compute cluster of 1000 gameboys to process my 2023 draft order is ready.

LOL... why use 1000 gameboys when you could be using 500 Atari Lynx IIs?

I do have something planned to do in July/August, not exactly sure how I'm gonna execute it yet, but if the market cooperates and fees aren't still shit b/c of ordinals/brc20, it could really be a thing. We'll see. It's relevant to the topic of discussion, which is why I mention it.

If you think about it, it's really just over a month left. When training camps begin, tons of team news/footage/storylines to follow up and analyze, more than enough to keep us busy. That's the time we get to revisit our fantasy league, interest check, decide what to do, etc. Then it's preseason games in early August, mock drafts and whatnot all the way up to Chiefs vs. Lions opener.

I realize it's a little early, but i'd like to propose a complimentary league, or at least float the idea, a Best Ball league. It's pretty straightforward and fun imo. All you need to do is draft, and Yahoo offers free 10-man leagues, so it won't be difficult to set up.

What is Best Ball you may ask?

Looking for a game that allows you to complete a draft that you can track throughout the whole Fantasy Football season without having to manage a roster? Best Ball offers just that! Each week, the top scoring players at each position on your roster will automatically count towards your weekly score. Once you draft your team, you won't make any roster moves all season long - no adds, drops, trades, sits, starts, etc. The team with the most points at the end of Week 17 wins.

Randy Moss days till...

@ChiBitCTy. I am more excited to see how Jakobi Meyers and Davante Adams might play with their popular quarterback hehehe. There is also Josh Jacobs who was very good in fantasy last season.

In any case, if Jimmy G had no serious injuries, I reckon they might get a chance to play in the wild card round, post season.

Yeah it will certainly be interesting to see how all that plays out in Vegas with Jimmy G.  I know Josh Jacobs had a nice season, but I just for some reason can't bring myself to believe he will repeat it.  I think regardless of what happens they won't be as good this coming year as they were this past year, which isn't saying much.

In other news, anyone been paying any attention to this XFL guy who's been getting some attention from the NFL..Jahcour Pearson, who was the XFL's leading receiver ( for the Seattle Sea Dragons, which is pretty much the coolest football team name ever if you ask me).

Here's some info on his story- https://predominantlyorange.com/posts/former-xfl-receiving-leader-jahcour-pearson-invited-broncos-camp
