No is covid shaming anyone here?  Is there the typical twitter fight between both sides of this discussion haven't really been on social to see what gross things people are saying about this.

I'm not suggesting that anyone here is shaming anyone else, just speaking generically.  It does seem like it's rather difficult to get decenting opinions from experts through the normal media channels and on social media.  Anyone who isn't fully on board with the vaccination recommendations is dismissed as a conspiracy nut.  I may be or may not be a conservative, a conspiracy nut, a right wing zealot...  but all I'm asking for is information that isn't politically tainted.  This is a health issue, not a political issue, but it seems impossible to find information that isn't filtered through some political agenda.

Anyway, on a positive note, today's reports about Damar Hamlin's condition suggest he's improving.  That's the most important thing right now.

I've heard reports that suggest a significant increase cardiac arrests among young male athletes who've recently been vaccinated.  One particular cardiologist, Peter McCullough has been talking about this for quite some time, but finding information through the usual channels is hit and miss.  There're are plenty of news sights that post articles picking his theories apart without actually mentioning what his theories are, but very few that a seem willing to discuss his concerns without bias.  Here's one relatively neutral article:

https://survivalmagazine.org/news/wellness-company-headed-by-dr-peter-mccullough-requests-to-release-damar-hamlins-vaccine-status-as-part-of-any-investigation-into-this-tragedy/

The unfortunate truth is we don't know if this was a result of the vaccine, covid, or something completely unrelated.  We've been hearing for well over a year now that there's a high risk of myocarditis in young men resulting from the vaccine.  We've also been told that it's temporary.  I don't know if Damar Hamlin was vaccinated recently, but it's certainly not wrong to have the discussion.  As a father of a 21yo son who's physically active, it's something I find rather concerning and so is the effort to shame me for being concerned.

Game officially postponed... I turned it on right after Hamlin collapsed to the field, all the Bills were praying as the ambulance drove off the field. Sad.

I read some speculations in social media that say the tackle was not very strong and Hamlin might have an undiagnosed medical condition already before this. Others speculated that it might be the effects of the vaccines for the coronavirus hehehe. I shook my head, however, how can we really know it is not?

In any case, what does this imply for the NFL?

Cardiac arrest wasn't from the vaccine, I mean cmon.  It's clear he wasn't just walking down the street and collapsed.  It was sport/hit induced.  This honestly in the grand scheme of things won't do nothing to the nfl.  It will go on just like it always has.  That's not being insensitive it's just the truth of the matter.  Too much money involved to change anything too drastic.  They should start limiting kids tackle football more though.

So, he's alive, in critical condition -- which is not good, but better than the worst case scenario that seemed to be playing out at this time yesterday. And they say it was indeed cardiac arrest. He is intubated and has blood in his lungs, cannot breathe on his own for the moment.

https://www.cnn.com/us/live-news/damar-hamlin-collapse-bills-bengals-game-intl-hnk/index.html

It does seem like a pre-existing heart condition was aggravated, and TBH I'm kind of surprised this kind of thing doesn't happen more often. I think the NFL does go out of their way to identify as many potential health factors as possible before allowing a rookie to participate in the NFL.

As we saw with Tua, that might not always be the case for a star player that carries a lot of a team's ticket sales on their back.

But generally speaking I don't see much changing in the way of protocol after this event.

This is the kind of thing that makes me guilty to be a football fan.  I hate seeing these young kids getting hurt to the point we just witnessed.  Imagine if you're that kid's parent!  What a horrible thing to have to go through.

Watching the replay he didn't seem to have hit his head or anything.  He made a tackle, then got up before collapsing.  Later they said he needed CPR while on the field.  I'm no doctor, but if I had to guess it makes me think it was something cardiovascular related.

They just made a statement saying the game has been postponed, so I imagine it'll be rescheduled.

I feel the same way, I feel a bit guilty being a fan.  The truth is it's just so bad for you to play, and if I ever had kids who had the opportunity to play, I'm not letting them.  This is why I think it needs to be shifted to flag football or some variation of that until they reach college.  I don't know how this will work, but I just don't think there will be any other choice.  There's a local kid here where I live who got hurt playing football, same thing cardiac arrest and had to be on life support for some time.

Yeah word is the game will not be made up.  Weird way for a lot of fantasy seasons to end (not that that matters).

I am terrible at Fantasy Football!!!
This reminds me of the case of Al Lucas which died on 2005 while playing at the AFL after making a tackle, he was hit on the head and not the chest as it is the case of Damar Hamlin, but still the similarities are striking, however I just hope we have a different ending this time and the kid can recover and have a good quality of life after this.

This is some scary crazy stuff...I've never seen a game suspended like this before I don't think

"Buffalo Bills defensive back Damar Hamlin suffered a serious injury during the first quarter of the team's Week 17 Monday Night Football showdown with the Cincinnati Bengals.

Hamlin fell to the field after trying to get up from a collision with Bengals receiver Tee Higgins. Medical personnel worked on Hamlin for several minutes. ESPN reported that CPR was administered.

Hamlin was removed by ambulance. The game was temporarily suspended.

Hamlin, 24, is in his second NFL season with the Bills. He played college football at Pitt.

"How do you as a member of the Buffalo Bills or the Cincinnati Bengals continue on ... to play this game?" ESPN play-by-play announcer Joe Buck said during the broadcast".  https://www.cincinnati.com/story/sports/nfl/bengals/2023/01/03/damar-hamlin-suffers-serious-injury-during-buffalo-cincinnati-game/69771881007/

Unless Freiermuth gets like 3 touchdowns today, you might still have a good chance in the Bengals game tomorrow. Higgins and Mixon and maybe 40-ish points to make up vs McPherson.

If McPherson scores a regular distance FG and makes at least one extra point, Barbarians will for sure need those 40+ fantasy points to win. Mixon and Higgins have only once topped that number though, in week 9 thanks to Mixon's historic 5-TD day against the Panthers.

Quote
WK1 - 24.2
WK2 - 29.4
WK3 - 19.1
WK4 - 39.8
WK5 - 12.8
WK6 - 26.5
WK7 - 33.4
WK8 - 19.8
WK9 - 74.1
WK10 - Bye
WK11 - 31.0
WK12 - 22.4
WK13 - 11.5
WK14 - 14.6
WK15 - 21.7
WK16 - 39.6
WK17 - ?

Bengals vs. Bills has the second-highest O/U spread this week, bookies expect a high-scoring game, thus Barbarians still have a chance for a comeback. We will see if Mixon and co can back those ''We the big dog of the AFC'' comments.  Either way, good luck to both Barbarians and Cows Reloaded!  Wink

Welp, I'm fucked.

We know.  And it looks like you might lose the FF championship.

The Eagles plan to rest Jalen Hurts against the Saints.

WTF is the point of that?  Is he injured?  The tweet made it sound like they just picked a body part as an excuse; "shoulder"

As it is the Eagles are at risk of falling to the 5th seed.  If they lose next weekend the 9ers or the Cowboys can take top seed from them if either of them win their games.  It seems like they squandered their best chance to clinch the top seed today, I don't imagine the Giants are going to gift it to them next weekend.

They aren't just resting jalen hurts for the sake of it, he can't go.  There is no way the eagles are just resting him multiple games to throw minshew out there.  Good thing for the eagles is that the giants have the 6th seed locked up, they can't go up or down in the standings norther a win or loss.  So if they have anyone banged up a bit they might rest them.  Eagles can fall from 1st to the 5th seed with a loss and a cowboys win.

Congratulations to both of our finalists! I will not pretend that I am not disappointed. I thought the finals was already a certainty for me.

snip

I overestimated my team and I also thought they would give me the same level of performances to the end of the regular season. I also stopped reading the news and other updates on the players. I also stopped checking the waiver wire until it was too late. I wish next season was tomorrow already hehehehehe.
You did well, this is just your second year playing FF and you put together a very good team, during the regular season a consistent output for your starters is key and it showed on your record, but when it comes to the playoffs a single bad game by a few of your players can be enough to get you eliminated.

I did not believe your reply at first and I thougnt you were only making my loss against @Hueristic feel less painful hehehe. However, after witnessing how my team has performed for week 17, I am completely quite angry on why my stupid players did not give me a similar performance during week 16! I want the next season to begin already! Can we organize the draft order earlier? I am certainly going to join next season.

Another crazy week of fantasy football.  I was not in any championship games today but did playin a 3rd place and a 5th place game so I paid slight attention to fantasy stuff going on and what a wild week. I feel like I can't remember this many players being hurt or under performing when it comes down to semi-finals and championship week games.

Fantasy aside- It's looking like the Chicago Bears will either have the #2 pick or quite possibly even the #3 pick in this coming NFL draft.  Already having a QB, it's exciting to think of the prospects of what they could either land that high or perhaps trade a few picks back for to load up on some extra picks and a super high end player.  One exciting thing when you're team sucks as bad as the bears do lol.

For some reason we all still have a game this week??  Huh

My ESPN league has concluded, finished 8-6, 5th place out of 10. A pretty mediocre season for me this year.

Teams with the two best records, Jerkers and Coiners, play for the most consolation.

Congrats to South Park and Hueristic for some well-deserved championship matchup spots.

Yeah as other have said they allow teams to keep playing so that theres then a final ranking at the end of playoffs/championship game.  Unfortunately I will remain in dead last place since 9th and 10th don't get to play in the playoffs at all.

Yep congrats to the 2 finals spots it's been a fun season!  My season didn't start out how I wanted but that's fantasy football.  On paper your squad looks good and then the season starts and starts to crumble in on you lol.  Good luck to the 2 of you amd may the best te win!

Well there problem for you was having that issue where the draft wasnt starting properly and then your screen didn't update or whatever when the draft actually did start running live.

But yeah, I thought I had a really good squad in this league, which I kinda did, but the lack of a top tier RB and TE really killed me.
