which makes mental damage because the money they have is not fully returned again, and from there everyone has big ambitions with the desire for money back but vice versa. and being able to make sacrifices to sell cars or anything else for the sake of getting everything back, of course, this will be an excessive learning that is not good. I like gambling but I don't do it every day because there are many other jobs. I have learned a lot from people who are addicted to gambling, so that I can control myself.

The people who become addicted have a distorted reality from their brain. They are like numb persons who do not understand nothing except the urge for gambling. We have seen a lot of stories that have ended in some cases even tragically. One of the most tragic ending is a movie made in 1971 which is called Love Toy.A person loses everything to his friend in gambling and the friend told him,I don't want your fortune but only one night with your daughter. That for me is the scariest thing can happen to any addicted person.

I agree with you. A gambling addiction can damage common sense. A gambler is so engrossed in gambling that he does not even understand what is good for him. I think controlling oneself is the biggest challenge in gambling. I was addicted to gambling once a time but now I am quite successful from it. I gamble now but it is under my control.

But if that challenge were successfully done by the gambler, then it's a big help.

It's not that they should stop gambling completely as that was a hard thing to do. Gamblers, even how addicted they are can still remain responsible. It's hard to experience big loss and it really affects our mental health but there's no one who can help these gamblers to move on but only themselves.

A hard and long process to become responsible but a necessary thing to do when it comes to gambling.
Not only the gambling but there are many fraude and evil incidents happen outside the gambling domain.
People fool other - rob them. Leave them to suffer and think they have won the game. But when the matter comes in the court of God - everyone freaks out.

The most prominent characteristic of most addicted to gambling is that they are not satisfied with their standard of living, even if it is acceptable and sufficient to lead a good life. They are not good at doing something useful and aspire to a life of luxury without thinking of doing something useful to reach that standard of living. They resort to gambling in the hope of achieving quick and easy profits, and with the successive disappointments, they become more and more stubborn by being lucky more than others and deserving of the best. Their aspiration towards a life of luxury is not so much ambition as it is hatred and envy for what they see in others. Their situation becomes sophisticated the more their losses increase, and if it happen to make profits, they think that they deserve more than that, so they do not stop.

I'm not an addict for sure because I can live weeks or months without having to bet at all and I don't think about it in my free time. I'm able to disconnect from it and forget about gambling for a long time. This is probably the most telling feature of an addicted gambler that he can't step away until he loses everything he has on him and he keeps thinking about the loss and how to win back the money.

Restlessness or irritability when trying to reduce or stop gambling.

After losing gambling money, often comes back another day to get revenge ("chase" someone's loss).

Forcing into debt and even committing crimes just to have playing capital, and relying on others to provide money to alleviate the desperate financial situation caused by gambling.

Unfortunately a lot of these points tie together and the overriding driver would be lack of control. When people do not feel like they have control of the situation then they are more likely to "go with the flow" and potentially string together multiple bad decisions. If someone starts off gambling, losing a stack of savings they might have had, it drives them into large feelings of guilt, which heavily affects their decision making and depending on the severity of the loss they might have lost a rational thought process. This could lead them on to even worse things like stealing from friends, family or a company that they work in. Basically even if you do start from a comfortable position it is incredibly easy to lose a grip and you need to understand how the odds are stacked against you to restrain your losses.

I'm sure anyone who has had bad luck in betting, they will have a negative effect on themselves, regardless of addiction.
Of course you are right, losing will have a negative impact on the gambler and the least impact is a change in mood. Even if it was around $5, I'm sure a lot of people would experience that change especially if they were in a third world country.

I am a gambler who actually also has a certain game addiction until now. However, because it is still within safe limits, I don't think there will be a problem, but something will change if the income does not match the desire to gamble, then problems will arise.

The losses in gambling or bad luck will only have a negative effect when a player uses money that is not free.

I think what the OP mentioned is more towards crime and character, my understanding is that addiction doesn't harm other people, tend to be more addicted to themselves in making gambling bets, maybe they will sell theirs to bet.

Addiction is an uncontrollable urge so an addicted person will do everything to get money for gambling.   That includes embezzling funds, and committing crimes like thief and robbery in order to get money for gambling.  Thus, the addiction does harm other people.

Often gambles when feeling depressed (eg stressed, helpless, guilty, anxious, depressed).
Are we one of the online gambling addicts...?
I think everyone has their own principles in gambling, regardless of whether they are addicted, stressed, emotional, anxious, stressed and so on, I often see how people get involved in repeated losing gambles which stress them out and so on.

Being poor is bad enough. But I know someone who lives paycheck to paycheck and then saw him one day in a neighborhood casino betting a huge amount. I can see his close friends already advised him  to stop, take the money, and enjoy his win but didn't stop. He ended up losing. He realized later and stopped but he only doubled his money instead of having XX,000.

Greed at its finest.  Even though the person isn't addicted to gambling, greed might have taken over his brain cells.  Greed can vague our thoughts especially when we are aiming too much and if ever that person is a gambling addict, he could have spent all the money on gambling instead of saving the rest so I wouldn't count him as addicted to gambling.

Hard to see what his character is but he must be trying to impress some of his friends or he just has the greatest ambition in life and to be rich in gambling.

He just gone greedy looking for more wins but messed up.

A person who is addicted to gambling doesn't focus on his ambition and goals anymore. All he wants is just to bet and gamble until he runs out of funds. He's already on the wrong track. It all started with simple greediness but got worse because of a lack of self-control. A gambling addict doesn't have peace of mind and all he does is find ways how to have money to gamble.

I think that the addiction to gambling does not depend on the character of the person and to a greater extent depends on psychology, education and the ability to possess over their feelings and emotions. Also I read in one of the scientific articles that gambling addiction more subject to people who suffer from a lack of adrenaline and dopamine in the body that clearly does not depend on the nature of man.

Online gambling addictions such as online slots, online lottery, etc. can ultimately destroy the lives of the players, both financially, physically, emotionally, and socially.

Not only online gambling but offline gambling could be also harmful. If a gambler, gambles with such a huge amount of money, which he can't afford to lose then surely he is going to face such issues in his life that you've mentioned. Hence, only gamble with money that won't affect your life negatively after losing it.

Are we one of the online gambling addicts...?
 Huh Huh Huh
Nope, I'm not at least!
I gamble when have to kill my free time so addiction is far away from me.

As for me, I'm not addicted to gambling and I will not allow myself to get addicted into it as well and I hope other gamblers learn how to quit if they needed to.

Similar story here.I like gambling, but I don't think I'm addicted to it. Gambling is fun, but when I start having expenses I am not able to afford , I stop. I will never give up on gambling and try to get addicted into it. I don't want my life to be messed up.

There are some steps which can help you to overcome online gambling addiction. Some of these steps are making the right choices, managing your time effectively, and getting rid of temptations. The chances of you getting into the trap of an online gambling addiction, are significantly high, if you do not have good insight into how to manage your time effectively. There are many people out there who do not know how to manage their time effectively, which results in spending more time on online gambling sites and ultimately make them overspend.

Definitely, sport betting is much better, we have the higher odds of winning. And when we follow the sports that we have been betting, for sure, you really know who has the good chance and that's where you put your money. So it boils down to individual preferences I guess.

Everything about gambling is luck I don't think it has something to do with the particular game you choose to gamble on. Betting on sports (soccer) may appear very simple and easy to win since we believe that we are familiar with the two teams that are playing but the reverse has always been the case because the teams we believe so much that has the higher chance of winning based on the quality of the players they have or the position and form of the team at the moment don't always win matches as expected, or they will win but not with plenty goals which will be the most options predicted by gamblers.

That's why we have odds on sports betting. If it's pure luck then there should have been no odds on each team at all, just flat out 50/50 for them since it's each match is a game of chance. Compared to casino games, sports betting gives people a lot more 'control' on how would they approach their wins. They are given options to choose on where to place their bet, thus in the end they can win pretty easily as opposed to luck-based games out there (dice, slots, roulette).

But at the end of the day, even if sports betting is generally better and easier to make some bank on, it's still gambling. It can still produce problematic gamblers in the long run if these guys do not control how they are going to play the game.

This is the reason why I don't agree with some people who think that gambling is not just a form of entertainment. There are certain people who believe that gambling is money-making if it is done in a more serious way. I don't think so. The more a person thinks that gambling gives money, the more he is facing the risk of addiction. If it is for fun then a moderate amount of loss is nothing. It is because that money spent was only a sort of payment to the entertainment one gets.
Why not? When what they are saying is a fact. Gambling do really has two purpose. One is for entertainment and the other one is for profit making. When they are serious, they will formulate their own strat or find existing starts online.

It's only harder tho if we are dealing about casinos but sports I think is much easier because we can just look a the players or the teams statistics and maybe other factors like weather, the stadium where they play, etc to determine if who we think can win. Nothing is wrong with that as long as self control is still there and they will learn when to stop. The same goes when we are playing to get entertained as it can also be addicting.

it is all about on how you look at gambling here. anyone can be addicted to this industry if he doesn't know when to stop. remember, just take for example those games, how people are getting addicted to it once they start playing. so same here with gambling games, esp that money is at stake. the thought of winning adds the excitement here.

If you are a gambler who would like to seek gambling as part of your source of income and risk your money to play for having a high risk reward I guess for you you will take it seriously because the funds here is important but if you are just a gambler who just want to seek entertainment, fun and excitement and neglect how much money do you use to play and if you got win or lose is just okay you just a gambler who enjoys playing and not get frustrated the number of money your losses in the game.
