Well, talking about this topic, I believe that all things is random, and we cannot get something 100% assertive, because each human being/gambler can have a type of characteristic, or maybe a compilation of it all.
Inattentiveness, irritability, decreased focus, anxiety, or similar symptoms.
But of course not ALL addicts will have these symptoms, perhaps a portion.
Each human can responds in a certain way with respect to a certain stimulus.

there are professional gamblers, they are very disciplined people, they are very social people, you can see them on youtube and they are people who live on gambling and from what I can tell they are not addicts. everything in this world depends on how we use ourselves. if we abuse and exaggerate and if we don't use knowledge then we can go down a wrong path, in the case of gambling people just need to have self control. such as alcohol, food, sex, politics... everything can make someone addicted if they don't have self-control.

It is very risky if someone spends all their time in gambling just to make money every day without any other work they do. It is not the right thing to make gambling a field for making money. there are several options that must be avoided from gambling addiction from themselves, one of which is by staying away from an environment filled with gamblers. As I stated, people who make use of gambling engagement as source of income is way more careful than any other gambling player. I do agree that there are better ways to a source of income, but in terms of turning into a compulsive gamblers, they are less likely to get addicted because
1. They always plan their action
2. They make a careful approach in every bet they made.
3. They manage their bankroll really well to not get busted as soon as they engage in their gambling activity
4. They have complete control of their time
5. They don't chase losses, if they feel that it isn't their day they just stop and go home. Or linger a little longer for socialization.
I agree with the risk of the environment but I bet these type of gambler know how to handle the risk around. Else, they won't be in the industry if they failed to adapt in this risky environment.

I too am easily irritated if I'm on a losing streak. That's how it goes when I gamble and I know that it feels the same for the others. And having other vices, well, that's going to make it worse for the others that can't contain their craving to gamble and have nothing left anymore in the pocket.It's a natural response when they have no money left to gamble or to spend on whatever they are obsessed about.
At least for me when I'm irritated, I just felt being a loser and that's the feeling that makes me irritable but eventually it will be gone as the time passes, I'll just think of any other good thing to move on.

People get addicted if they do not discipline themselves, if they have no source of income, if they are not busy with something else. But if they discipline themselves, they will not be addicted.

I said that because I feel them as I was also in the same position when I was smoking nonstop before. When I have no more money to buy a cigarette pack I get irritated and most of the time you cannot even talk to me as my brain just functions on how I can grab money to buy smoke.
You will definitely think about bad stuff when you are in that dilemma.

Those who don't have discipline and have a lot of money to spend is the one that always fell into addiction, not all people who used to gamble sometimes because most of them for sure, just trying their luck and it's all done.. 
What I'm trying to say is it's impossible to happen to some people that has financial problems and lack of source of income because for them at the first place its very skeptical way to make profits. It cant be that you can get addicted to online lottery or even offline lottery because it is hard to win in this game and then the drawings do also takes time but for slots and other games which results can be instantly seen, yes and it's also more easier to win on them.
