Well we didn't really see anything in the Anderson Silva so I don't think it's fair to say that this fight shows he needs to retire. Of course, he's not the same he used to be but he got injured, nothing else. Who knows what would have happened if he didn't get kicked in the knee ?
Btw what a stupid reaction from the crowd booing Cannonier who showed some class there.

I'm more disappointed by BJ Penn. There was only a 3 year difference with Guida but it seemed much more. Guida is like the energizer, he keeps going but Penn seemed washed up.

Also pretty surprised at the Aldo's defeat.

Anyone has an update on Silva's knee injury ? Career ending or not ?

Like you, I want to see Silva retire because he is not that good like he was in his prime. Though he still has those tricks in his fights but i am not entertained on it. I guess his knee injury should be the turning point of his career though.

Rafael Dos Anjos vs Kevin Lee this weekend guys.  It should be good as both fighters are looking to redeem themselves due to some rocky periods in their careers.

I'd expect Dos Anjos to win (Lee's line is fading).  I mean Lee has all the tools to be great but dunno...  There's something lacking.  He lost to Iaquinta ffs.

Here's a vid of Dos Anjos.  Smiley

And against Cannonier and Silva, I am pretty sure about this because I am seeing Silva that he really needs to retire and needs rest because he doesn't have the quality back then in his prime, Well that is just my opinion, I can be wrong with it but that is what I am seeing.
Yes, he was already past his prime, and the more he fights, the more he got injured. His body is not holding now, maybe because of the wear and tear from the game. We don't know how many fights left in his contract but I guess it's really time to quit.

Rose Namajunas was ready for this fight, The combination of punches and back out and all of that defensive stance she did in the fight was a technique for Andrade We can see that Namajunas studied Andrade for this fight, But Andrade had caught Namajunas and pushes her to the cage, Then after a while the slam was purposely was the last resort of Andrade to really win this
She could slam her because Andrade is really strong for the division and i am not sure how she is cutting the weight and there is no doubt that Namajunas is a good striker but the power difference is what i felt and predicted Andrade to win and the Brazilian crowds are a different breed than the rest of the countries, they are passionate about the national fighters and curse to death the opponents and if you are facing in Brazil for the first time, it is a big task in itself.

It is time for Silva to retire, the level of competition in UFC is really high and he might not have the reflex and health condition to face top contenders, he might shine with other promotions if he is really looking for competition alone and not money.

I missed the event completely but we now have a new champion in Jessica Andrade and it looked like she won it simply because of her brute strength and the way in which she slammed Rose Namajunas when she attempted a submission was brutal and Anderson Silva lost his fight due to injury and it was another sad way to go for a legendary fighter like Silva, he should retire from UFC, he might be able to show his skill set in other companies but not against top class fighters.

@sashi your predictions were spot on here, Anderson lost because of his leg injury and Jessica Andrade won because of her power  Shocked.

Wow...  Namajunas had Andrade outclassed until that slam in the second round.  I hope she's ok and I hope she gets her wits back and get an immediate rematch.  She was giving hints that she might not be fighting for a little while tho.

Well, first Rose Namajunas was a strong-willed fighter in what I have seen and she conquers Joanna Jedrzejczyk 2 times by taking the UFC Women's Strawweight Championship And defending it on a rematch against her and even in circumstances that Jedrzejczyk was taller than her 5 ft 6 in while Namajunas was only 5 ft 5 in But aside from that I really think Namajunas had the guts to really won the title against Jedrzejczyk she has a great Performance back then While Jessica Andrade was beaten by Jedrzejczyk on a title match against the UFC Women's Strawweight Championship So my bet will go to Rose Namajunas Well I guess Andrade has more experience regarding Namajunas 4 matches on Amateur record fights, And 3 Exhibition matches, Well I guess Namajunas can pull out some crazy kicks and lockdown on Andrade.

While on the part on Jared Cannonier Vs Anderson Silva I guess that Cannonier could win this fight because I really think Silva was not so well in the fights anymore after his leg injury to Weidman his career was set back entirely, and his performance was not quite the same in my opinion, I really think that his Injury and his old age was dragging him down.

I will not change my previous post, Even though Andrade has a physique of a bodybuilder and I think even got strength to win in this fight I like Namajunas personality and her dedication and her sheer will of determination that could let her win in this fight, I wish her the best of luck that she may prevail in winning this one,  I guess with her footwork and speed Andrade will not caught up to her like Kowalkiewicz did, But still best of luck to both fighters.

While for Cannonier and Silva, I really like Silva back then when his cocky attitude with his every movement, But this fight is different and may get the best of cannonier in this fight, But with due respect to Silva's will on keeping on fighting despite his accident with his leg back then regards and respect for both of them.

Interesting to see how close these odds are for this main event.
Overall a good quality fight card if you like watching Brazilian MMA!
It is almost a pick fight so I will be on the traveling Champion 'Thug Rose' who just doesnt seem to give any fucks!

snip
[snip]his name continues to have weight in the sport.
To a lesser extent yeah. The man is still widely respected among active and retired fighters.
If only he finished Bisping during their last fight, he could have been in a better position now.

Anderson Silva only wants to collect his paychecks from the UFC while his body can take it, I reckon hehehe. He has a family to feed and bills to pay hehe.
That's a shame if that's the main reason why he still fights. He should talked a lot of trash and demanded higher cut when he was still dominating the game just like what Connor did.

Anderson Silva match always entertaining, i'm sure UFC boss seeing this as a money and for anderson silva too but i'm not sure is Silva will win on this fight or not.
No doubt he still entertains. He is still capable.

^  The women are awesome, especially Namajunas.  She beat the best fighter in her division twice.  And her story is great.  Lots of ups and downs, personal issues and drama.  But she ended up being the champ thru sheer mental strength and will.

And she has a great personality...  Very humble and very sweet.  The realest personality out there in the UFC.  Watch eeet!

The fights that interest me the most in this card are the ones of the old timers, Silva and Penn. The Aldo fight should be interesting too.
I don't know much about the women though.

@BRE. He is forced to be a warrior. Anderson Silva only wants to collect his paychecks from the UFC while his body can take it, I reckon hehehe. He has a family to feed and bills to pay hehe.
This might be the only reason he still fights, i wanted him to hang his gloves after that leg gave out during his fight against Chris Weidman and that was a horrible scene as i still remember i had to switch off my Tv after that breakage as it was too much for my eyes and i never expected him to return and i am sure he made a lot of money as he was ruling the division for a long time, but it was pre Conor McGregor era and post that the salary increased a lot and may be that is the reason he still competes.

Namajunas vs. Andrade, i'm favoured Namajunas but Andrade is good fighter too, i hope this match can be one of the best female match.
I am taking Andrade for her punching power and her ground skills and more over she is in her native Brazil and the fans are known to be brutal against foreign opponents and it will also have an impact.

I cannot believe Anderson Silva is still fighting. It was just a few months ago when he last fought. He looked pretty good in his last fight so he might win with all that experience.

Anderson is a true warrior, just like you I cant believe it... He is 44 years old and he is competing against younger guys in a very demanding sport. In this occasion Anderson is more than 10 years old than his opponent... but we'll see how the fight goes.

With all the defeats and the controversy over the use of steroids, his name continues to have weight in the sport.

seen Namajunas fight ferociously but her opponent this time has much experience over the number of fights. she has the reach advantage and has the boxing skills though.  it would be a disaster if she gets mounted. as long as she can avoid the take downs, she will win the fight.

^  Still Namajunas beat JJ twice.  JJ also beat Andrade which could make Namajunas on top of the heap imo.  The thing tho is the event is in Brazil, making it hostile territory for the champ.  If the event was in neutral ground, I think the lines would be slightly in Namajunas favor.

Anyway I got Namajunas at 2.14 a week ago.  Grin
